Re: Tapping problem
I've had this issue as well. Could you provide a list of what desktop widgets and shortcuts you are using?
|
Re: Tapping problem
Could be high CPU or RAM usage. Or else you must of tapped it too light.

If so, do you know how/why? Once we get to the general cause of it, we could file a bug at bugs.maemo.org. |
Re: Tapping problem
Sometimes I experience the same, and all tappings are registered one or more minute later, launching something like ten apps in a few moments...
|
Re: Tapping problem
I've noticed this as well, I simply run a killall hildon-home and it tends to go away for a while.
|
Re: Tapping problem
How long do you mean by "a while"?
I encounter the problem once every few weeks. Not common enough to warrant as an annoyance for me. |
Re: Tapping problem
Hmm. I've just noticed that some things are taking a while to respond (or don't respond at all - reboot required), and also that an inbound phone call doesn't wake up the screen when the keyboard is closed, only when opened.
Sometimes. Have recently installed DCEW, only 3 scripts, Personal Dataplan monitor, FM transmitter boost and bluezwitch. Had no problems before these. may or may not be related. When I get some time I will uninstall these, leave it, and the reinstall one at a time. Time. There's something I wish I had more of. |
Re: Tapping problem
"a while" for me means at least a few times every day. Sometimes it is when I try and tap 'play' in the media player, sometimes trying to tap the small 'X' in the task manager, or links in MicroB. Using the stylus makes no difference, eventually (after a minute or two) the 'clicks' register and end up launching/disabling/closing whatever happens to be under it

Re: Tapping problem
By now I think it's safe to say that DCEW is part of the problem. Now to find out what part of DCEW is the problem. *groan*
Will be experimenting, help would be appreciated (PM me). |
Re: Tapping problem
I also notice this problem when tapping shortcuts and webpage links.Unfortunatly when i got my 900 i installed just about everything i could lol (noob) so figuring out whats causing the problem would be almost impossible. So i figure i should watrch this thread for a trend.:o

Re: Tapping problem
It's worth noting that I do not (and have never had) Desktop Command Execution Widget installed, and I'm still experiencing this issue.

On a similar note the most annoying gripe I have is an issue with bookmarks. I click on say meamo link from my desktop and in most cases it works. However recently the links seem to be very intermittent as to whether they work. The status (blue bar not main one) just goes back and forth. The URL is http://maemo.org/ but if I tap in the URL and put http://www.maemo.org the browser seems to come to life drop the wwww and then connect fine to http://maemo.org/. This is the same for sites like google and any other bookmarked link. I have noticed I constantly have to put a www just to wake it up. Do you think this would be a similar problem or needs a thread of its own if it’s a totally separate issue EDIT: Quote:
Same as i have never had this widget |
Re: Tapping problem
In the past when I've had this, flicking the lock switch to switch the screen off and on seems to cure it
|
Re: Tapping problem
Ok, so those of you who believe that the problem was due to DCEW, have you installed anything else that could have caused the problem? (the only other "unstable" desktop widgets I have are ussd-widget, and various others.)
And those of you who never had DCEW, same goes, any other possibilities? |
Re: Tapping problem
happened to me but screen cal seemed to fix it ; ) not saying its a cure.

Re: Tapping problem
happened to me this evening, total desktop lock-up, had to reboot, widgets i have are simple notes widget, media player, personal ip, desktop command execution widget (4 cmd widgets), and OMweather.

-omweather -media player widget -location -calendar I've been having this issue for MUCH longer than the 'unstable' widget has been installed, and it seems to come back up after re-flashing the device (usually after a day or two), and will dissappear for a few(2-3?) hours after a fresh reboot |

If so, this is a known bug with the widget - see https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7909 |
Re: Tapping problem

Re: Tapping problem
Hi guys,
I followed hints and uninstalled: Personal Dataplan monitor widget Media player widget Desktop Command Execution Widget Now problem has gone away. What is DCEW? regards |
Re: Tapping problem
I also believe DCEW is the culprit.
I had DCEW and five widgets on the desktop, showing uptime, some IP addresses, and two buttons that turned bluetooth on and off. With that setup, I started noticing the bluetooth DCEW widgets freezing up. Was having to reboot twice daily. Assumed I had a bad script somewhere. Deleted the .desktop_cmd_exec file. All five widgets reverted to the "uptime script". Ran that way for a day. Still had to reboot often. Finally uninstalled DCEW. Haven't rebooted in two days. Hope this gets fixed, because I love DCEW. Enjoy using a script to do a simple function rather than downloading a separate app for each one. Feels more linux-ey. :D Richard |
Re: Tapping problem
i have been experiencing the lock up of hildon-home at least twice the same day recently -- and both times when a call came in, which made me miss them both. and in most other cases it was connected to an incoming call or sms, too (ironically. i dum ped my freerunner b/c i often missed calls when it hung somewhere ...)
gettingback to dcew: i only use it to display the charging level of the battery, which nokia in its infinite s***y does not make available othe than that unusable battery icon. thus, when removing dcew, how do i get the charging level? |
