N900 best phone I've ever had!
I don't think there are enough threads like these.
I've had my N900 for about a month now, and would just like to say it is the best phone I've had. It's nearly replaced my netbook for Skype calls to the US and randomly surfing the internet. I can do manual rsyncs to my home server and get new music and video onto the device. Not to mention I don't have to convert my video files! (Extra WIN) |
Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
fair enough :D
but as useless as the other threads (no offense), maybe it could be in off topic? Im more afraid to get the phone bricked and to learn again to live without it that if meego will run on n900 or not :p |
Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
I think its good that someone wants to share how happy they are with their device - it pays testament to the N900 and Maemo 5. Its not off topic at all (imo) as it might reassure others of what the device can do...!
I also think people need to give up on meego... We weren't expecting it when we bought our N900's and the device is great without it! If we get it, that's cool - if not, who cares?! Steev - I also love my n900 - hardly anything about it that I dislike :) |
Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
Congratulations on picking a device that fulfils your expectations!
It sort of sounds like my experience with the N810. I started carrying that with me in addition to the windows mobile cell phone for extended functionality. So I was quite excited to see the N900. In my case, though, the N810 lead to me having too high expectations for the N900. |
Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
Thank you for this thread! I love that I don't have to convert videos either, I just get my movies, plug it to the tv and it's good to go. :)

I would even say it's not only the best phone, it's the best gadget I've ever held in hands. |
Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
I'm leaning that way, it's not perfect in it's default state, it has no allusions to perfection and because of this gives you a lot of options for customization.
Yes Nokia has done an awful job with getting software companies on board, yes their offerings aren't too great. But they don't lock you into a particular way of using the phone. The community aspect of this phone drew me to it (along with Nokia actually knowing how to make bluetooth headphones work without dongles or performance issues) and I think Open Source is what makes it such a great device! |
Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
I totally agree, say what you like about its imperfectios, there is no smartphone like the N900 anywhere, not one. Even my 65 year old mum appreciates it - calls it a mobile computer. No walled gardens, no sceptre waving overlord, no evil contracts and tie ins, no developer restrictions, just UHURU - swahili for FREEDOM

Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
I compleatly love my N900.. It does was i need and more. I am so glad i decided to do some research before buying the device... i was close to buy an Android.
The only downset is the move to rpm.. hopefully developers are aware of the debian comunity and the scale of it. I will probably not follow to the MeeGo camp.. only time will tell. |

N900 best phone I've Never had!
:) I have so wanted this phone since...like December... :) Might get it this month! mmmmm...dreams....mmmmm... |
Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
Good thread for a 1st time user. This is my 1st post here using my 1st smart phone and I like it so far. Maybe I am not tainted by owning other smart phones or maybe I have been lurking in these forums so long that I had set my expectations accordingly before purchasing the N900, but I like the N900 a lot. It is not a perfect phone by any means but has good functionality and can only get better with PR 1.2. It also appeals to the geek in me.

Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
N900 is the best...and it looks like sygics navigation(turn by turn) sw is available and when i have it: n900 is the best of the best.:D
I dont even need meego, pr 1.2 or ovi store... at least not today ;) |

Go ahead. If you dont like it, I guarantee you a refund. Honestly, its not perfect but its open infinite possibilities. No frills, just pure metal. |
Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
My n900 is totally indispensible - I use it (alot!) on a daily basis.
It would be great if we do get MeeGo for the n900 but if a stable version never manifests itself then so what? it is still a great little device! Maemo is still a great OS which means I have a linux computer in my pocket! I have installed a few apps and they are all genuinely useful to me. I think a lot of people bought the n900 because it was the "next new thing" and seem to constantly moan about it in this forum! Maybe these people should have thought a little harder / done some research first before committing to buy one. I guess they sat down, played with the n900 a little then lost interest because they don't actually need one. They could not think how it can be useful to themselves and instead constantly moan about it. My only gripes are no OTG usb & no reliable way to connect a bluetooth keyboard & mouse to it. It's a great device and very happy with it. I needed a device like this because I travel frequently. I nearly bought an Android phone before I heard about the n900 last year. |

N900 will get meego. Trust me, wait and see! just a reflash is needed. |
Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
Best device I've ever had. The only thing annoying me is that it's too easy to get hooked in to using it, especially with an unlimited highspeed dataplan. I am online 24/7 and talking to people 24/7 on it. If my battery runs out I feel like I've lost a limb. Pretty sure it's not a good thing, but oh well.
But I guess that still tells how useful this device is to me. |
Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
I love mine and I wouldn't change it for anything else at the moment! Made the decision to buy this after experience of my son's iPod touch (disastrous) and the fact it was open source with a command line shell.
Wonderfully liberating, and I have to agree about it being very addictive with an unlimited dataplan! |

I might get it second hand...not sure. In any case...I have been on this forum since last oct/nov and I am lovin how things are working out...other than the haters. But I can't hate them, cause then I'd be a hater, and that would be twice as bad...right? :) I (like a dutiful husband) listened to my wife, who said "maybe you should before buying it? There may be problems." Why do I love something I never owned? Freedom! I think CLI is awesome! I think scripting is Awesome! I think, therefore I am! I am trying to get more linuxy. This will be fun! Thanks to everyone who posts productive things! (Textrat/Qgil etc..) |

I agree but nice to see a satisfied user for a change. And just for the record, of all the devices I have owned the N900 has come the closest to fulfilling my needs (but I still miss my old E71 - I have mentioned that too many times already, haven't I?) |
Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!

Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
I completely agree with the topic's title.
The N900 is the best phone I've ever had! And, for that matter, it isn't really a 'phone', because the phone became really just an application. This is a mobile computer, and it really feels good. Tho be honest, it's good to have this thread, I've had enough from the "worst phone" types and all the MeeGo moaning. I don't really care about that. If they manage to fix all the bugs, and the MeeGo applications will really be backwards compatible, that is already very good news. N900 FTW! |
Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
Its the best phone ever!!

Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
GALAXY NOTE IS THE BEST PHONE I EVER HAD. Soon galaxy note II
Still n900 is fun. But not the best. Not even close. |
Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
N900 .. "the best phone you ever had"??!
really? the N900? as a phone? The N900 is a mediocre phone. It excells on everything else though. |
Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
Although I dont have my N900 anymore, I miss it. There were functions on it I havent seen on any other device. Not only that but radio sensitivity was superb - it would get a signal in places that none of my other devices would and pick up more wifi networks than any other mobile too.
It would record calls, both sides of conversations. Very few devices do that so easily and nicely. However, in terms of apps it struggles. My most used apps are Gmail, Twitter, Facebook, a voip app by Acrobits and a podcast app called Downcast. Give me all that and I probably would go back lol. I could live with the lower screen res, the sometimes hesitant performance (even my 4S hesitates, especially running beta), but I cant live with the lack of Apps and although I genuinely miss the keyboard and the freedom / openness of Maemo, I cant go back without important apps. Its a great shame that Nokia gave up on what I think was their best OS and best form factor/design for a device. I think a 900S, something with dual core, better camera and a bit slimmer would have been awesome. |
Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
It's definitely not the best phone, but it's the best micro computer ever made--I put up with the poor phone features every day only for this reason.

Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
No offense to anyone but I dont know if english is sounding like swahili to some people..the OP said '"N900, best I've ever had...He's not saying it's the best phone out there but the best he has had based on his day to day needs..We should learn to understand a message before posting...Its a +1 for me too cuz its the best damn phone I've ever had...

Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
It is the best Smartphone. Therefore I have bought a fourth one today :)
I am living with the fear, to lose it. Now I can use the N900 over the next ten years. I think, Jolla should design a modernized hardware device like the N900 to run Maemo + CSSU on it. |

Re: N900 best phone I've ever had!
Yes I still love my n900 (using it for 2 years ) and still using n800,
but some apps out of date - like adobe flash. slow web browsing ( comparing to samsung galaxy s2 ) and small screen size. ( i miss it comparing to older n800 or new galaxy s3) Over all I still like my n900 (32gb + external sd card, tv-out, pure linux based on debian - not like android ) I wish to have more RAM + more cores ( like 4) dreams..... |
