Whats good Tablet for $200 to replace my N800?

I bought my N800 2 years for about $200 (new). Its kind of getting old and I need a new device. One of things is that it can't handle very high resolution videos (neven got 800x480 to work).

I have been looking for replacement in the same price range ($200). So far the only thing the seem compelling is the Smart V5, which supposedly can playback 1080P?

As I said, I want something that can at least playback video at least full resolution (aka 800x480 video works on 800x480 screen). Also I am looking for something with full-size SDHC slots so I can reuse memory cards, it would be great to have 2 SDHC slots like the N800. Another important factor is having some sort of useful GPS app like Meamo Mapper.

Any suggestion would be helpful!

At that price, I will recommend Ipod Touch 8G, $180. You have to convert the video. Is good, but you have to deal with Itune.
Have a lot free app too. Sorry small screen, but the app are optimize to that size and the Safari is good.
See amazon for review.

Big problem with the ITouch is fixed memory size. Only 8G in the version, which is kind of small. Looks like 32G is like $270. And, yes I would absolutely hate to have to deal ITunes. Last I used, it was pain in the *** to get anything done in ITunes.

One of the Smart devices is definitely an idea. I think that the world is going to be crawling with iPad imitations soon; so try to wait six months and see what happens.

Well, Archos 5 is 370, wait for Dell Mini 5?, I think it will be more than 500.
Better wait as geneven seed.

I still have not found something that can exactly replace my N800; so it is a part of me and me of it everyday with pleasure.
For your case as your prime use is videos the Archos 5 Internet Tablet(as IOAN has mentioned above) will be a great replacement. You can even run Angstrom linux on it.
If you are in the US ,Radioshack has the 8Gb one for $249

I would wait a bit. There are loads of tablets coming to market during this year (some article speculated that around 50 tablets from different manufacturers).

Maybe you can be satisfied with your N800. You know, perhaps, that the "trick," if it's worth it to you, is to use your desktop computer to convert your videos to something like 400x240? See, e.g.,

It's a lower resolution, but played back with MPlayer, it fills the screen, and looks pretty good.

sadly, most tablet like devices seems to go the same way that laptops, netbooks or even tvs and cars have gone: "bigger equals better".

so most seems to go for 7"-10" screens.

and even if you find a 5" one, it probably runs android. And altho thats better the the padlocked system on the ipod touch and relatives, it pales in comparison to maemo.

The Archos 5 only has microSDHC slot so I can't used my current full SD cards. In fact I was planning on getting a 32 GB full SD card soon, they don't even have that size for microSDHC. Archos 5 32 GB runs almost $370, which way out of my range. This is same issue with all the those Itouch, etc.

Yes, I am indeed looking for a pocketable 5" or less tablet. Not the size of Ipad. I am really not sure any good $200 tablet is going come out any time soon.

I have looked around for Smart V5, however there maybe some things it can't do that Meamo OS 2008 can on the Nokia N800. Like on Nokia N800 you can easily mount Windows Share and play video. Also, just don't see any app like Maemo Mapper for Smart V5, Android or even Itouch, etc. I still need to do more research on Smart V5. At end of the day, looks like Nokia N800 (released in Jan 2007!) maybe more capable in many ways than these new devices :(

I have tried different resolution and bitrate, codec (Mpeg4, xvid, etc). Some of my anime video still don't work well at 400x240 with high bitrate. I have found 320x240 do work almost always. However, that is really low resolution. Nowhere close to full 800x480 resolution. The Nokia N800 screen is nice, I would like to use all of it playback my movies! :)

At this rate, I might just have to stick with the N800 for longer and keep on researching...

i suspect just about all will only have microsd, as thats what phones use now and thats whats easiest to get hardware for in bulk. and on smaller devices, it makes the design easier thanks to the smaller size.

And also it has what you want!

I don't think that at this time there is anything for the size, which comes close to the functionality of maemo devices for the price.

I bought an N810 6 months ago, as a companion/ replacement for my N800, and love it. Only downside is that it can only take one card. There is an adaptor available which will allow you to use a full size SD card in the N810. search the forums for it.

I didn't consider the N810 because it has same CPU as N800, which mean it gives the same performance in video playback. It has same OS 2008 also at the N800. Not to mention it has only 1 microSDHC slot. I really do like my N800 2 full SDHC slot as I can keep 1 permanent data and replace out SDHC slot as needed. Only advantage for the N810 is a keyboard, which to say the truth I don't need. Also, store with new N810 in stock is costing $300! :(

i wonder if one could have gotten better video performance out of the N8x0 if one could handle the decoding by way of DSP rather then cpu.
