How fast your 3G network is from your local operator?
2 Attachment(s)
hi guys. was thinking of changing network providers. currently with three UK. got 20 some days left in my contract and since surfing online over 3G network is really a big big chunk of my use.i would like to know what people are having from other network providers. here's the 2 recent results i got from http://www.speedtest.net/. both tested with full reception bars.
by the look of it doesnt look really fast but it's not too bad based on my past experience. plz upload your results guys. oh if you dont mind plz do tell your location plz. mine is Preston, north west of England. thx |
Re: How fast your 3G network is from your local operator?
This is what I get from O2 when stood at the front door at home with a full 3.5G signal, Sheffield S14 postcode. Ironically if I don't stand in that exact spot at the right angle, I get no 3G signal at all as it seems the buildings perfectly block it.

I don't get a good signal anywhere in the house for T-Mobile 3G never mind 3.5G, so I would have to test that later. I did try, but with 3 notches I can't even get the FLASH to load up for speedtest. I seem to recall it was not terrific even with full signal round here, obviously a lot of T-Mobile/Virgin customers. I have used O2 and T-Mobile in the city centre (not all that recently, but I don't think anything has been upgraded recently either) which seemed to linger around the same download although peaking up to 1.5Mbit sometimes. Upload speed certainly was not that high in the city centre. Unfortunately I believe Three are in fact the fastest for data, period. At least that is what it seems based on what I have read. And here is my broadband to prove the N900 is capable of handling more speed as at first I thought perhaps flash was bottlenecking it. http://www.speedtest.net/result/756822139.png Ignore the ping, its definitely not that high more like 30ms pinging bbc. |

Re: How fast your 3G network is from your local operator?
Believe it or not this was 3.5G. T-Mobile on 3G is even slower than AT&T on 2.5G :(

Re: How fast your 3G network is from your local operator?
kinda got one question riding along wid this thread for those who are wid vodafone UK. heard rumors saying that voda's cool about customers going beyond their allowed data allowance. it's that true? cuz i m wid three and they only give me 1GB per month. wid n900, i think there might be a chance i could go beyond that.

Re: How fast your 3G network is from your local operator?

Re: How fast your 3G network is from your local operator?
do the cell phone carriers tell you when they are going to turn hsdpa on when you call them or do you just have to play the waiting game?
I get averages around 1Mb down and 256Kb up |
Re: How fast your 3G network is from your local operator?
1,31 down and 0,4 up (vodafone italia)
|
Re: How fast your 3G network is from your local operator?
I did a test a while ago, I think I got ~5mbps down and ~1mbps up. It would equal roughly 0.625MB/s down and 125KB/s up.
It's on Three Sweden by the way, and I have a pretty much unlimited data plan(20GB, then I only get 3G speeds until next month). |

I think I am going to pickup a few PAYG SIM card to test real-life speeds in my area before deciding on my contract renewal plan in June. One thing is for sure, it won't be O2! It looks like it might be between Three and Vodafone assuming I don't stick with T-Mobile (which I might as if I keep my £10 loyalty at current prices I could get 600 mins, 500 text and Internet for £5/month). |

Orange France, about 5-6 Mbps down, 1.5-2 Mbps up.
I was with SFR (France) before, 1.5 Mbps down on good days, 0.15 Mbps up. |

I guess I'm happy with these results.. Although sometimes the speeds are horrible. EDIT: Oh and I assume they mean MBit/s and not MByte/s. That speed is btw near our home connection, even though we should be getting somewhere around 24MBit/s at home. Damn you, thompson router! |
