No firmware update on Vodafone
It looks as though PR1.1.1 is available in the UK and there have been people on Vodafone saying they have upgraded. I have also checked on the Vodafone E-Forum and there is a post from them saying to enjoy the new firmware so I thought that it would be available for all customers. Has anyone using Vodafone (direct from them, not carphone warehouse or similar) upgraded? I've looked through the other threads for firmware and not really any clear ideas of what is happening. I'd rather not have to re-flash to the global version

Re: No firmware update on Vodafone
Scotty, please check all of the previous posts on this, as there are many :D
There are two types of firmware in the UK .203 and.205 .203 - the general firmware, that came with most of the earlier devices, most of which have vodafone sims. The upgrade is working for these people. .205 The vodafone specific firware that is normally gotten through a specific vodafone contract direct from vodafone. (I may stand corrected on here). Nokia / vodafone are not releasing details of why ... but i'm pretty sure they will get an update at some point. if you are unhappy with the state of things, there is nothing stopping you flashing your device to a worldwide or UK generic firmware version. (Except possibly warranty, but you can always flash back!) Anyway, have a search through the other posts :D edit :) - i flashed fine a month or so ago - was quite simple :D |

I gave up waiting and flashed to global version this afternoon. Everything is the same and no issues have arisen yet. |
Re: No firmware update on Vodafone
Thanks. I've been searching and looking at the other posts on this and only really asked because Vodafone themselves stated on their forums that the firmware had been released by them so just wanted to check with other Vodafone users, but i could have just posted in one of those other threads. Oh well no problem, just wait a bit longer - am used to that from the openpandora.org forums!

PR1.1.1 UK Release
Hi, can I pick people's brains quickly please? Has PR1.1.1 been released in the UK yet? I am really confused over this as my mate has had it updated OTA via the update manager, and some pages on the Nokia site list this (V3.2010.02.8) as the latest version for my phone, but other pages, and my operator, list PR1.1 (V2.2009.51.1) as the latest software version.
As I mentioned, my mate seems to have 1.1.1 on his N900 on another operator's network, and he isn't technical or adventurous enough to update it himself via reflashing, so I suspect my operator is delaying releasing the update (they have their own version of the update), but I can't seem to confirm whether this is the case or whether Nokia haven't actually released the update to the UK? *sob* If anyone could enlighten me, I would be very much obliged. Cheers MH |
Re: PR1.1.1 UK Release
I never saw it via OTA, my fiancee did. She upgraded OTA, I reflashed, we're both running it.

Re: PR1.1.1 UK Release
So far the latest version is V3.2010.02.8 this is posted here so many times

http://europe.nokia.com/support/down...oftware-update - if you select the N900 it says "Latest software release for Nokia N900 is 2.2009.51.1", but if I enter my EIN on a different Nokia page it lists 3.2010 so this is why I'm somewhat confused. Is there any official release notification from Nokia about 1.1.1 release? |
Re: PR1.1.1 UK Release
The Vodafone version of PR 1.1.1 has not yet been released in the UK AFAIK.
If you bought your phone direct from Vodafone (rather than buying from mobilephones direct or Nokia) then you will have to wait til Vf get their finger out. Which judging by the 5800 and N95 could be months or even years. You can just change the product code and flash with the generic UK firmware but then you would miss out on all the Vf goodies ;) |

As I'm sure you can imagine, this will become a large issue once PR1.2 is out, if we have a similar delay. |

I am a Vodafone user and got fed up of waiting so have flashed to the Global version. I'm not missing anything from staying on the Voda firmware as there is no real difference/branding and they have confirmed on their forums that if you flash the firmware and aslong as it is an official release from Nokia it will not affect your warranty. |
Re: PR1.1.1 UK Release
From tablets-dev.nokia.com:
RX-51_2009SE_3.2010.02-8.203.1_PR_COMBINED_203_ARM.bin 171136705 bytes PR 1.1.1 version 3.2010.02-8 Latest Maemo 5 UK variant for Nokia N900 Has been available since about March 25th (see talk in https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6878). I never got the OTA update so flashed instead. |
Re: PR1.1.1 UK Release

Just to be clear your telling me after all the wait for 1.2 i will not receive it until i reflash my device to a global firmware that my current carrier isnt supporting or claiming exists.:( OMG seriously this isnt even Nokia's fault but im loosing the will i swear |
Re: No firmware update on Vodafone
There was talk maybe confirmed maybe not I cannot remember now. Aparently Vodafone was delayed so long they decided to not update the interim firmware pr 1.1.1 and was just going with pr 1.2 when it comes out. I will search for a link.
|
Re: No firmware update on Vodafone
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh link please
isnt 1.1.1 needed for 1.2. This is just my assumption or this could have been a previous update but i thought it had stuff in it that prepared for 1.2 i dunno as i say its getting a bit boring now and losing the will. this has actually ****ed me off. I know its not nokia fault but just aaaaskjdg;sag'sadknfgz.dg/zdgkn/adkgmnafdg\sddszg ok calm now. could you provide the link if you find it :D |

Re: No firmware update on Vodafone
I'm on o2 with a sim free handset from expansys and I never received 1.1.1 ota so flashed it yesterday.
Simplicity itself mate, pull yer finger out and flash that badboy! |

Re: No firmware update on Vodafone
Hi guys I am vodafone too... I mean I'm normal but... ;)
Did you get some new option in internet connections after re-flashed? Because after 1st time I saw gprs and contract WAP second time as I see gprs only. Originally contract WAP only. Maybe here is a catch? they cheating with internet and 3gp. Because all seems to be working fine. Can be some cheat like they are giving us some rubbish internet under the hood. |
Re: No firmware update on Vodafone
how can i tell if my phone is vodafone branded, i know that sound dumb but it doesnt say vodafone anywhere on it although i did get it from them
|
Re: No firmware update on Vodafone
Flashing is no big deal either. Have done mine a few times, the first time is a bit hairy but only becuase it felt like a big deal. Only takes 30mins and that includes re-install of all apps.
However don't expect much from PR1.1.1 I struggle to think of any improvment it made that affeccted me. Maybe browser speed was a little better :) |
Re: No firmware update on Vodafone
im also on vodafone but ive flashed to the global firmware, and would recomend it to everyone, its well worth learning how to reflash your n900 out of choice rather than leaving it till you have to when something goes wrong.

If you got it from them then it will have their firmware. There might be a Vodafone live icon too  |
Re: No firmware update on Vodafone
1.1.1 is not a big change but is needed for 1.2
1.2 is a great improvement but doubt Nokia will have it for ages. Also you will not loose and content unless you also flash the emmc which it is not necessary to do anyway. My N900 was a little more reiable and browsing was a little quicker. |
Re: No firmware update on Vodafone
Definitely do a backup using internal app. It's very handy to restore your apps settings and contacts.
Anyone can answer my question mentioned before? What is the difference Contract WAP GPRS + Contract WAP GPRS only depend of numbers of flashing device Do you have any issues with this? Since I lost this labeled this way they might charge me for GPRS use? Is not like vodafone cheating us with internet this way? Thanks |

IMHO I would update to the generic 203 (non Vf) UK software. There are loads of Non VF bought phones legitimately (mine included) running this software and so it would prersent no warantee issues. @devildriven As has been said above. Make sure you run a full back up to MicroSd Card. If you do not have a card do a back up to the N900 but save a copy of this to your PC as well, just to be safe. I had to flash my replacement phone (USB socket fixed) received from nokia as it was on Pr1.0 Even after flashing the photos and music from the previous owner was still on there :O @devu Contract WAP GPRS + Contract WAP GPRS only Where are you seeing these options? In Internet connection in settings? My Vf pjone (provided by the Nokia store) only has the one non wi-fi option and it is - Vodafone Internet GPRS. The settings for this are (assuming you have a data contract with Vf). - access point name: Internet user name: web password :web (I think!) Although I very much doubt you will need to do anything anyway. GPRS only should be fine. |

http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware Beware, you cannot Flash from a Windows 7 & 64bit PC Windows 7 32bit works fine though but whatever system you are using follow the instructions to the letter. As I said it seems a bit daunting and scary at first, much like sex :D Practice safe flashing and do a back up first :D Also make sure you battery has a decent charge before you begin. Any problems come back here and ask. |
