ecoach overreading distance from GPS
Hi,
I am having a problem with eCoach. I record a track, and the .gpx file that is generated is then imported into SportTracks (free sports software with mapping, etc., ). But, the distance recorded always seems to be too high. A 1km walk becomes 1.5km, every day. I can correct this manually but it's irritating. When I see the map, the drawing of the route is very jumpy, and I am thinking that all the little jumps left and right slightly are adding to the distance considerably. Has any else experienced this problem? I will try and reduce the GPS update time tomorrow to 20 seconds (it was at 5 seconds). Hopefully it will pick up the run/walk in more straight lines then. I would like to know if anyone else has noticed this, or what settings and software they are using for eCoach. |
Re: ecoach overreading distance from GPS
I use eCoach several times each week for tracking my running. I have the GPS update frequency set to 30sec intervals, and the accuracy seems pretty good. I've mapped the same routes (up to 7.5miles in length) using Google maps and they match eCoach's distance data to one decimal place.

Re: ecoach overreading distance from GPS
I'll have to check mine because i opened that .gpx file after the running and it shows that i've been crossing larger road last 2k:s in every damn 100 meters. That could cause overreading distance.
I'm going to upload screenshot later and calculate distance from google maps. |
Re: ecoach overreading distance from GPS
Okay. Checked distance from maps and distance is absolutely correct, but map looks like i'm drunk. Anyway, works :D

Re: ecoach overreading distance from GPS
I'm using Ecoach when running, and it seems to be calculating corrct.
Before N900 I used Nokia SportsTracker, and I still import the running data to Sportstracker. I get the data, but not the map. Any solutions ? |
Re: ecoach overreading distance from GPS
how to import gpx file to old nokia sport trucker??
or is there another online site to store and share gps data? thanks /A. |

Re: ecoach overreading distance from GPS
I made a little comparison: I drove a little trip by car and recorded it with Maemo Mapper on N800 with LD-3W GPS unit and with ecoach on N900 with the internal GPS. The GPS update interval was 5 seconds in ecoach while Maemo Mapper updates every second. The distance calculated from the gpx recorded with N800 was 27.1 km and from the N900 recorded 26.9 km. I forgot to take a note what was the distance measured by my car. I have previously compared the N800 recorded distance to the distance recorded by my car and it was within 1%.

Re: ecoach overreading distance from GPS
Interesting thread, as I just posted a blog entry about GPS interval in Mapper:
http://blog.mardy.it/2010/04/mapper-...tery-life.html Although I was mainly thinking about having a longer interval to reduce battery consumption, it can indeed have some beneficial effects on the GPX file. I guess that for walking a 30 seconds interval might be the best, but for running or cycling I would opt on 10 seconds, while I'd keep 1 second for car navigation. |

I have used Maemo Mapper also for logging data for car performance tests (I calculate the performance figures off-line on PC). For that the 1 second interval is a must. I hope you keep the 1 second option on Mapper. |
Re: ecoach overreading distance from GPS
Hi all , does some one here know how to get something like this , I think is a simple improvement but I think will by very useful
Turn this http://www.colados.com/mau/Screenshot.png Into something like this (simple media player controls) http://www.colados.com/mau/Screenshot2.png I am not too into "LINUX Developing" so this is just a suggestion of if there's any tutorial I can use to get into it en do it by my self , would be great. |
