Replacing Screen Section

I have 2 N900's (long story - one was blacklisted). The non-blacklisted one has a few scratches on the border of the screen, the blacklisted one is flawless. Would it be easily possible to take the screen section (including border of course) from one to the other? There are 2 screws on the back of the screen section as it flips out, perhaps undoing those would remove it? I'd rather not risk it until someone with experience has told me.

Thanks a lot guys!

Re: Replacing Screen Section

That has nothing to do with it, but if you must know, I bought it on eBay and the person who sold it to me reported it as stolen, so its been blacklisted in the UK...

Either way, can I transfer the screen section from one to the other? Anyone know how? :D

There are instructions online for disassembly. Google it. I disassembled mine according to the instructions, and put it back together. You could swap out the screen/slider part pretty easy. Only warning: there are short screws and long screws. Take notes during disassembly so you get the right length screws back in the right place.

Why don't you speak to the authorities and tell them the truth?

BTW, there is a nice disassembly video.

take much care about 64 pin connector. if you pull it form kapton cable ( orange flex cable ) you can break the solder joints and flex cable itself. also take care about devices around connector on main board. those chips don't have case those silicon chips ( shiny ) are direct soldered on the board and can easily brake. don't touch them.

I spoke to Vodafone (who blacklisted it), they don't give a damn :( Got my money back though so I am not too bothered. May sell it in America as its only blacklisted here (still trying to find out if that is legal.)

Anyway thanks guys, all sorted :D

Well, if Vodafone doesn't care, maybe you should contact consumer protection or something like that.

However if you got your money back, you may as wel throw it out of the window... :P

Do you mean "the person who sold it to you reported it as stolen" or "the person who sold it to you sold a stolen phone"? Big BIG difference between the two.

I mean the person who sold it to me reported it as stolen, as it was working fine when I got it, for about a month. Well, that's my assumption at least. I can't be sure.

The chances are they sold it and reported it stolen/lost to claim on insurance to get another handset.. Letting the police know would be worth doing as technically it's filing a false police report.. the coppers are none to impressed with that type of naughtiness

I could but I already got my money back now, and I even managed to keep the phone so in the end all was well.

Thanks for the advice though!

Except getting your money back AND keeping the phone means it now is genuinely stolen.

I personally wouldn't want to keep hold of it after that, get it back to the person you bought it off with proof of delivery in case anyone comes knocking on your door. Besides, just because it worked for a month doesn't mean it wasn't stolen in the first place, might just have taken a while for Vodafone to pull their finger out.

Or take it to the police with the details of what happened.

Re: Replacing Screen Section

I am pretty sure that it was Paypal who paid me the money back, because his account had disappeared. He refuses to reply to me, either through the claim I made him on Paypal, or through contacting him through eBay. I am pretty sure this means that he doesn't want the phone back.

If anything, it is not stolen, it belongs to Paypal, and that being the case, they haven't asked me for it or mentioned it at all.

Thanks for the advice though.

Re: Replacing Screen Section

I am going to seek legal advice about the status of the phone and if I am permitted to sell it outside of the UK, I will put it on eBay for a fair price :P

Send me a private message if you wish to be informed of this if and when I do it. But for now, it may be illegal so no promises.

I think you should go to the police with this.
Beware, because at the end they can blame you for stealing even if you didn't.
