Portrait Mode will never be available for Maemo 5.

Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
At least portrait sms.....?
|
Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
I only want to see portrait mode for the Media Player.
|
Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
I think that portrait mode can be a bless for a device like this, when implemented in as many applications as possible, including some system apps like SMS.

Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
Knowing Nokia....No!

Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
i hope we will see portrait mode on n900 , sometimes a mobile phone is really hard to use in landascape mode!! -.-

The sms and mediaplayer portrait is quite important. Ofc we have the hw keyboard, but you wont always have both hands free!!

Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
Yes QT will be much easir in supporting portrait / landscape auto sizing.
I remember QT based Qtopia for the Zaurus and the QT layout widgets aloowed auto placement and sizing of the controls in an app when rotated from landscape to portrait. Of couirse it still require some thinking and planning ahead when designing the individual apps - but the native QT based environment allowed that very easily. This is the reason why Nokia is insisting on implementing OS level rotation support in QT based Maemo 6 (MeeGo) - I guess. |
Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
n900 will never get poitrait mode.... live with it or sell it and get a icrap....

Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
I would love to see portrait mode. Sure, the N900 isn't perfect and I understand it is more of a PC with phone capability than vice versa. But I don't think that should be an excuse during these times of great gadgets and gizmos. IMO, implementing portrait mode would enhance the user experience significantly.

Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
let us repeat yourselves shall we?NO, not for Maemo 5 it will never happen. For Meego yes

Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
I have to say I was a skeptic regarding portrait mode, but I have to admit that I use it in the browser in portrait regularly, primarily for reading these forums, and with the iPhone version of Google Reader. I've got the half-press on the camera button mapped to the back function in the browser, and it rocks!
The only other app I run in portrait mode is the phone itself which is set for portrait only. I find the rotation transitions to be glitchy and cause audio drop outs. If Nokia don't improve performance in that respect, they may as well forget further support for portrait mode, IMO. I'd be much happier with a slower rotation transition than the glitchy audio. Generally, as far as my N900 is concerned, I'm a happy bunny :) |

Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
Probably "no", since Nokia is investing resources now with "Meego" and if Nokia is expecting the N900 to transition to Meego, perhaps they will for the feature to be universal, then.
|
Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
I don't think so. I think eventually Nokia will create portrait mode for N900. May be by using QT4.6 or 4.7

Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
I got myself very used to the landscape mode and pushing out the keyboard becomes my habit even when it's not necessary

Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
I would like to see portrait-landscape rotation mode in all applications.
It should be done through window manager, not by each individual app. There should be a mode for anti-rotation (like, you are lying, and your eyes are not left-right, but up-down). Warning: somewhat off-topic. And I would like neither GTK+ nor QT, but simple, minimalistic Matchbox. (X Terminal should work in it, it doesn't depend on GTK+.) File Manager will have to be replaced, and Camera App possibly too, and Maps, and Clock... And Fennec will have to be compiled without GTK+, if it's possible. :-/ What are your thoughts about minimalistic desktop environment with Matchbox (or anything minimalistic) as window manager, no widget toolkit, no fancy interface, compatible with Maemo 5 Fremantle 1.2. A single hack to turn GTK+ off (not uninstall, but temporarily disable) could be welcome. |
Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
i think it'll come and ctrl+shift+r is a prerelease of that

I'll put my money on that if there is another firmware release, it'll be a simple bugfix release.

Re: Wil be portrait mode in next firmware??
There is going to be another firmware release (bugs have been getting marked fix for PR 1.3 by Nokia bugfixers).
And you are right, it'll be a simple bugfix release. |
