Do you seriously think that anyone can help you with that much detail?

Maybe your Skype account was cancelled or you spent all your credits, or you don't have an active internet connection or you forgot to go online or skype is down, or your account settings got messed up or, or or....

why so harsh?

what is the exact symptom olivia? Sometimes skype acts up and will not login - helps to change status to offline - save - and then back to online.

I had this problem, try creating another skype account, signing into to on your phone and then signing back into your main account. Worked for me and not had to do these steps again since.

Have you tried rebooting your N900?

rariss 2010-03-28 12:34

Re: Skype problem nokia n900

problem could be your network operator.
same issue on wifi and 3g(2g)?

Re: Skype problem nokia n900

Do you have credit? Does it work over wifi?

zlatko 2010-03-28 13:06

Re: Skype problem nokia n900

Just turn the phone OFF and then ON again to reboot.
And please try as rariss suggested to use wi-fi instead of O2 network.

Mandibela 2010-03-28 13:22

Re: Skype problem nokia n900

O2 apparently do not allow Skype use in their mobile network, i.e. via pay-as-you-go. You should have checked that beforehand. You have to use a WiFi connection if you want to use Skype.

You should also note, that the no-Skype policy applies to all phone manufacturers that have Skype calls on other carriers, only O2 can re-enable them.

Olivia 2010-03-28 13:26

Re: Skype problem nokia n900

Thanks for all your help everyone, Yes i use wifi not the o2 service. rebooted it and now it works i am so pleased.

Mandibela 2010-03-28 13:27

Re: Skype problem nokia n900

Good that WiFi is a possibility for you.

I also found this: "“These unlimited data packages are designed to allow customers to browse the web and access data services such as email without worrying about a cost per MB. To offer the best possible customer experience, we prohibit continuous streaming of any audio/video content, Voice over IP, P2P and file sharing services, all of which can adversely impact the overall customer experience,” O2 also noted."

I disagree, this is NOT harsh. It is helpful to point out that, the more the details, the easier for people to help you. I think this forum overall are very helpful, and both posters, nikolajhendel and wongdong are trying to help, but with slightly different approach.

@Olivia
Great!;-)
When you are not sure where the problem is - reboot.

Re: Skype problem nokia n900

I seem to have a different problem using skype on my n900.

I keep getting a "internet connection required" error message.

tried rebooting, tried logging onto a website and then tried to use skype. I have yet to try to create a new skype account.

Anyone had the same symptoms on their phone?

Yeah sorry about that, i was pi**ed because after 6 weeks under repair, i got a replacement N900 where GSM and Radio does not work.

But yeah, Reboot and/or using a different account once usually does the trick...

Re: Skype problem nokia n900

I have the same problem. After a few minutes I just get disconnected from the skype server. Everybody still appears online on my side for a few minutes.(10-15) but I'm offline in others lists. This also happens during calls. I've
thought it would be from other services (Gtalk, Yahoo), but Skype is the only one which gets network error. I've disable everything and still doesn't work. Actually it drops the call whenever it wants, I had calls of 1 minute and call of 20 minutes. All over Wlan.
To solve it, I disconnect from the WLAN and reconnect, and most of the times it solves it, but after 5 minutes I have to do it again, other times it doesn't work and I have to reboot in order to reuse skype. This happens with or without other IM services running, but skype is the only one with problems.

Re: Skype problem nokia n900

hi,
decided to piggyback on this thread since OP's issue has been long since resolved.

my issue with skype pertains to skypeout in particular (from skype to phone)

problem: when making a skypeout call while connected to wifi at home, call gets disconnected every time other party picks up the call.

points to note:
router is apple time capsule
skypeout works when i login from my flatmate's icrap at home
skypeout works when on 3G
skypeout works over wifi when at my parent's place (linksys adsl2 modem/router)
skypeout doesnt work when changing router to netgear and setting n900 as dmz

cant try the linksys router at my place since it's a modem
can anyone offer some advice?

thanks,

that depend's on where you use o2.

You can use VoIP in the German O2 network.

Re: Skype problem nokia n900

Hi guys,

I had the same problem with skype and msn, e.g. the skype and msn would work for more than a month and all of a sudden will stop with an error message "network error". BTW I am using msn (haze).
After trying all that was advised above and being certain that skype and msn would not work under neither wlan or umts, I tried the following which worked it out for me: Turn off the phone, remove the battery and sim for a minute, then reasemble all and boot. It worked straight away.
NOTE: Be advised that prior to that I tried just rebooting, loging with different account, etc.... Any of these might have had affected the final test somehow!

cheers!

Re: Skype problem nokia n900

Hey
I've had the same problem and my network provider was very helpful in helping me fix the problem. For those like me who need step by step instructions, i've listed them below, it may not apply to some cases
Go to settings ==> connectivity ==> phone
scroll down to network where the network selection button is. Now, in my case, it is automatically connected to my network.
Click 'Network Selection' button and select manual, which will prompt you to select your service prover. Click a provider that is not your own. An error will come up and close settings.
Turn your phone off then on again, and check network is selected back with your service provider.
Skype then signed in no problem

Hi, Guys!

I am very happy, using my Nokia N900, but I have a problem right now.
I can't use Skype Call service, because the sound is very, very bad.
I live in London, UK. My SIM is 3. When I put it in different phone, Skype Call is OK. But my lovely N900... No idea! I try everything I have read here... I can't find a solution.

Any help? Please!

the n900 makes skype calls through the available connection ..
skype call's quality depends on the speed of the internet
you can test your speed ..there are certain websites that can do this :)

it should be the same ..
may be you are connected to wifi in the perfect phone ?
another thing : do you use a 3G or GPRS?
may be its GPRS on the N900 ?

3 use 3G SIM only. If I set my phone 2G (GSM mode) - no connection.
The perfect phone is my old Nokia 6120 Classic - no Wi-Fi. When I use Skype, 3G sign change to 3.5G. GPRS, I thinк (or better). :)
The internet works very fast and phone calls are very good. Skype calls only...

Re: Skype problem nokia n900

Edit: I had to remove the folder /home/user/.Skype
1.Open terminal
2.Type "rm /home/user/.Skype" or "mv /home/user/.Skype /home/user/.Skype_bak" (both without the ""). The first one deletes the folder, the second one moves it to .Skype_bak (just as a backup).
3.Try to connect to skype. It should work. The deleted/moved folder will be created automatically by connecting to skype.

Just resurrecting to note that this fixed a weird problem where I couldn't place Skype calls or video chats and IMs wouldn't go through, further described here:
