Big Thank You Nokia!
I thought it was about time someone said thank you to Nokia for the n900. Ive seen far to many posts on here about how its failed and how nokia haven't supported the community enough. Well I just wanted to say that on my travels I have been able to do the following from my phone:
1) Listen to music 2) Check the satnav on ovi maps/maep etc to see where I am 3) Make phone calls 4) vpn into my home network (cool) 5) Check my emails 6) Browse the internet 7) play my music to the car radio on the way to work.... 8) take vids/pics of my family etc Do I need to continue! I can do all that and more from my one device, no additional accessories needed! To say somethings are missing is a fair point but i love the device and it was absolutley the right direction for Nokia! So Thank You and bring me the next best improved device regardless of it having Maemo 6 / MeeGo / WhateverOS cause ill still buy it 8) |

Re: Big Thank You Nokia!
Thanks for the post bro, Its nice to see someone actually appreciate the device for once....
I love my N900 to the point where when I'm having sex my mind is on my N900, Apparently screaming "Oh, Linux!" during sex is a bad thing.... |
Re: Big Thank You Nokia!

@ thundercat600.. how did you use the vpn to connect to your home network. |

Re: Big Thank You Nokia!
I use astaro firewall, which is free for home use (up to 50 internal ip addresses). This has allowed me to setup site-to-site vpn's between my friends who use astaro and also a remote vpn connection.
I installed the openVPN software avail in the repo's, setup remote vpn access on the firewall and imported the settings on the phone. Now I can access all my internal servers not matter where I am.....sweet! |
Re: Big Thank You Nokia!
I wouldn't be without my N900 now. Love it! Going back to my old phone would be like losing a limb!

Re: Big Thank You Nokia!
Well they say we criticise most the one we love the most. so eventually we all do love our device :)

EDIT: Just phoned them to check progress. Carphone Warehouse repair staff don't have the training to take apart a N900 yet so it's been sent off to Nokia. So now it'll be about 2 weeks without a decent phone. Gutted. |
Re: Big Thank You Nokia!
the more beautiful she is the crazier she is allowed to be..
the N900 is the same; its a great UI, functionality and hardware is fantastic.. sat nav software is frustrating and needs developing, battery life is very poor, and to be honest its abit bulky too.. I still love it I'de like to say a big thank you to the poeple who run this site and develop bits and pieces for us to play with :) with out you guys Nokia would be dealing with some frustrated customers.. |
Re: Big Thank You Nokia!
Thanks to Nokia AND ALSO to this COMMUNITY!

Re: Big Thank You Nokia!
we are engaged from the last 4 months now...and our relationship is flourishing....
there are somethings that are important and you dont say all along... but today i looked at n900 eye to eye..and said... i love u my n900...my life without you is incomplete...;) hehe |
Re: Big Thank You Nokia!
Great to see some positive posts about the N900! Yes, there is a few things the N900 doesn't do that some phones do, but at the same time, other phones don't do things that the N900 does! That's what makes phones different, and in the end, it all comes down to personal preference.

Re: Big Thank You Nokia!
Credit where credit's due - this is an awesome device. To anyone thinking about an N900 - JUST BUY ONE!.
This is a phone with a computer despite what the hype says - no-one would buy this instead of a good laptop. Every phone has it's good and bad points. Landscape/Portrait is not a problem for me, but lack of OVI Maps 3.0 is. The lack of a device-wide search engine is disappointing and I can't dial from numbers within emails or calendar appointments like I could on my old 6110 Navigator. I guess some or all of this will be coming soon but if not I'll sell it and get a device that does - hopefully another Nokia. Nothing lasts forever. I use mine mainly as a phone; it's a tool more than a toy. I'm a User, not a Developer and there's nothing on the market I'd rather have right now. It's built like a tank and looks cool, IMO Now I've configured homescreens and physical buttons to my liking the lack of speed dial is not an issue. I could never get voice commands to understand me unless it was deathly silent, and there's no other useable functionality that you can't add in with the amazing apps this community is developing - you guys deserve the same praise as Nokia. Enjoy! |
Re: Big Thank You Nokia!
Thanks for this thread, I completely agree. :)

Re: Big Thank You Nokia!
yawn - nothing to see here.
Can we not stick to useful problem solving or new idea generation than fanboyisms. Like the ""whinging", these threads come along every couple of days and just results in even more crap on here to read than usual. |

Critism, such as not another useless crap post is probably the most pointless thing that someone can write other than actually clickin on reply and write it! |
Re: Big Thank You Nokia!
Loce it. Wonderful device and still can't find
a better anything better. |
Re: Big Thank You Nokia!
Yes, simply the right direction... :)

Re: Big Thank You Nokia!
here are some constructive ideas to make a good platform more usable..
Make Ovi maps for maemo (version what ever it is) open code so that clever people can make some cool plug in's for it (like audio directions for example!). firewall (with black list white list capability) would be nice too. |
Re: Big Thank You Nokia!
i wonder if i can marry it... sometimes i want to kiss the screen but stop and think.. how terrible would those lip prints look on my brilliant screen. I don't liek the way my wife looks at my phone when she thinks i am not looking. I wonder if she woudl try something while i am sleep. lmfao
