Selling N900

I've had my n900 since it went on general sale in the UK. While in some respects it's great, I've decided it's not the right device for me. To my shame, I'm going over to Mr Jobs's Dark Side.

The best deal I think I can get from the phone-buying websites is £195 from Mazuma as the front of my device has a small (1mm) mark on the screen. I was wondering if anyone knew of any better prices I could get. Thanks.

I'll give you £250 for it.

Deal?

Re: Selling N900

Bang it on Ebay and you should get £350 or so for it.

Thinking of an iphone myself.

Indeed it is shameful

@brzuch: a new iphone should come out in about 3 months time which would affect the price of the 3GS model.. the new model is rumored to have 960x480 screen and front facing camera...

Re: Selling N900

The truth is, I've a lot going on at the moment and not sure I want the hassle of a private buyer (with respect to rash.m2k which was a generous offer considering what I'm likely to get from Mazuma). Ebay's just too much like hard work. Not really fishing for bids, just wondering if I'd missed somewhere. I used fonebank recently (looks like they'll offer me £195 also) and they sent a cheque amazingly quickly.

And yes, shameful. I've spent years saying how awful iPhones and iPhone users are. Now appears I'm one of those idiots...

As Steve Jobs would say "I would trade my liver for one of those new iPhones"...Oops too late.

Why not wait until new iPhone is released?

It's rumoured to use cheese as a power source and the new screen allows you to see into the future.

Wow a front facing camera, Apple are truly innovative.

Don't put yourself down and call yourself an idiot.

I'll do that for you! ;)

Genuinely, why do you want an iPhone?

Is it because most of your friends have one or you like the apps available for it?

Are the voices in your head telling you to "buy the iPhone because that's what Jesus would do."

BTW: If it is a small mark on the screen maybe the plastic overlay can be replaced? (The Nintendo DS has this. Actual lcd and "touch" senser is sandwiched behind a plastic sheet).

You may get more if you are capable of repairing it.

I bought an iPod Touch about six weeks ago and had it online via JoikuSpot on my n900 but carrying two devices around is hassle. Some of the apps for the iPhone simply make my life easier. I looked into development on the n900 (I last programmed about 15 years ago) but I think the learning curve would be too steep for me, considering what I read on forums. Seems to be a gentler curve on the iPhone/iPod.

In terms of friends, only one has an iPhone. Very few of my friends are interested in their phones.

Considered DIY on my phone to repair it. But you should see the job I made of wallpapering the kitchen.

Fair enough, nice sensible answer.

Some people get annoyed about their n900 because "it stops working when submerged in boiling water, c'mon Nokia you can do better than this!"

As regards to programming the n900 I think the SDK requitements are a bit strong! 3gb of drive space required!
There is also a 10gb virtual image that can be used too.

Personally I don't have the space to spare at the moment - my only option is to use an external hardrive (kicking about here somewhere).

I know what you mean! My wife keeps me away from stuff like that. Especially when I tried to squeeze out a cat-shaped air bubble in the wallpaper!

I never did find out what happened to Smudger.

Good luck :)

Because this thread has spiralled off topic and will probably turn into another iphone vs. n900 thread.

I think you should reconsider. I noticed a user named RIP was watching this thread. Death might be looking for you. Or he/she might be coming to kill your freedom.

Does that make it a "cheeses" phone?

Well, you don't have to read it. I don't think I've been over-the-top about either device. My preference is based on my personal circumstances.

Re: Selling N900

I think if having tasted the fantastic multi-tasking on the N900 and then went backwards towards an iphone - I'd probably be disappointed after a days use of not being able to be as efficient with my mobile chores.

Yes the iphone has the candy factor but you have to pay for most of those silly pointless apps.

I have an N900 and have not spent one single penny on an app and this N900 can do everything I need it to do with the help of some super clever guys on this forum. And if it doesn't do something then you can bet that someone will come up with a nice little app to do it in a short while.

Might not have the glossy packaging but the functionality of the N900 wins hands down.

Is there a CEX near you? If the cex.co.uk website is to be believed they will offer around £220.

This will be last my last resort if MY N900 does not shift on eBay. Good luck and enjoy whatever you choose to get in place of the N900:)

Thanks for that. I think the little mark on mine puts it as "good" and not "mint" condition, but still gets me around £210. Nearest CEX is 80 miles away but maybe I could do with a day out...
