Where's Angry Birds?

When I follow the Ovi Store link/icon on my N900, it takes me to the Ovi Store, but I can't find Angry Birds on there. In fact, there is very little on there.

If I log in on my PC, I find it OK.

Is it 'just me', or do other people see this too?

Max.

Re: Where's Angry Birds?

check the non free games?

edit: yes i did check. using store.ovi.mobi if you click on the games section it is the second result.

Re: Where's Angry Birds?

While using my PC, I tried 'send to mobile'. When the SMS arrives, and I follow the link, it tells me 'This item is not available for your country.'.

Is this just because I happen to be in China at the moment?

Unfortunately, once I've downloaded it, I get the unhelpful message "Unable to install Angry Birds" :/

Do you have bounce too?

I'm trying to demo the n900 here to someone, and they were particularly interested in Angry Birds and Bounce...but I'm running out of options now :/

use the send to mobile feature from pc in ovi store.
it will send a text with link directly to the angry birds page on n900

I refer you to my previous message where I say I tried it, and it tells me that it isn't available in my country.

Re: Where's Angry Birds?

Download and install rootsh from extras, close app manager, move the file to "Nokia N900" in the file manager, open terminal and type
Code:

dpkg -i /home/user/MyDocs/angrybirds_1.1.0_armel.deb
I have bounce, will up it in a bit.

I download using apt-get, it caches debs in /var/cache/apt/archives.
I moved this to /opt and symlinked it back into /var/cache/apt/archives, whenever I reflash I delete the one in the firmware and resymlink the one in /opt.
My archives folder is 221.4M

Yeah, that worked. I have to copy it via my PC. I wonder why app manager doesn't like it?

MohammadAG 2010-04-03 00:08

Re: Where's Angry Birds?

Not sure, I don't use the app manager a lot, you could check out the Log (tap the title bar and click log).
You still need bounce right?

Yes, please :)

Now I'm trying it again, to see what the log message is, I see that I can save the file - I didn't even notice that before and just selected open with application manager. I guess I'll try that with bounce - I don't much like having to use my computer :)

EDIT: The log has quite a bit in it; the only unusual thing is 'short read in buffer_copy' from dpkg.

do you have a cache of the "temporarily" available angry birds addition?

Flandry 2010-04-03 00:57

Re: Where's Angry Birds?

That was a for-price offering and should not be shared, nor requested. Doing so is against the forum rule.

Edit: Technically, putting any of those proprietary Ovi-store debs up for download is probably IP infringement, but since they were offered for free, it's not causing any trouble that i can see.

I've had them for some time and no I'm not uploading them, since I actually paid for them (and even if I didn't I wouldn't upload them since it'd be piracy)
Same as for Joikuspot, I extracted the deb but won't upload it (don't bother PMing me about it)

If the Ovi debs are illegal to share I'll take them down.

If I download it using my N900's web browser, save as a file, and then use dpkg -i, I get the same error as indicated in the application manager.

However, if I download using my PC, then copy it onto the phone (via USB), then it works. This makes me blame the browser...though actually, the network route is different for my phone compared to my PC (the latter is over VPN).

Suspicious...

Anyway, thanks a lot for making those available! I owe you one :)

Now I can show off my N900(s) here in China too. I think I'll take them to the Beijing Linux Users Group :)

You're just trying to help out and i appreciate that (and unless/until Ovi whines i don't think it matters about it being posted; it would be cathartic to have an Ovi representative come here and post, wouldn't it? mwahahaha). I was mostly warning ceroberts.

nokia don't restrict developers from distributing software published in OVI store from being distributed other ways, so if anyone complains it will be the Rovio b/c they are missing these downloads from there stats, then again this is a nokia sponsored site they are losing counts to so they'd probably turn to nokia first if they was to be funny about it

I don't see why it would be unavailable for my country...or what use it is to make it unavailable for a certain country for that matter...but that was the problem.

I'm in China, on holiday. I normally reside in Finland and have a UK N900.

I don't expect my choice of s/w to be dependent on where I happen to be at the time, but it seems to be that way :/

1st Download the free version of angry birds from OVI store and install it. That contains the game data of angry birds and 21 levels. Then install the level pack one for 42 more levels.

It should work. When a package gives you errors like this you should go to the tab named 'Problems'. It will say what is missing. If the app is installable instead of a tab named 'Problems' it will be named 'Installation'.

http://mohammadag.ucoz.com/maemo/bounce_1.0.1_armel.deb <-- is this the full version?

Re: Where's Angry Birds?

Well judging by the name that game is Bounce and not Angry Birds. You can buy the additional 42 levels on the OVI store. It is called Angry Birds Level Pack 1 and costs 2-3 euros ( I forgot).

That's only the bounce demo, I don't condone piracy one bit.

When you say demo...is there a full version?

Anyway the level pack is only 2 euros..roughly the cost of 2 cokes. Definately worth it.

Hi, sorry to resurrect this thread after so long, but can anyone upload the angry birds.deb anywhere? (just the free demo)

I tried getting it from the Ovi store but it just opens up the app manager, prepares to install, then cuts out before anything is downloaded. I suspect it might be something to do with me running the global 1.3 on a UK phone?

Edit; Never mind, got it else where. Thanks though.

Enable testing / dev / extras and install 'aptitude'

Then simply do...

aptitude install angrybirds

You don't actually need Ovi at all.

Hmmmm annoying. I had to flash and now app manager just says application not found when I go to install my paid apps starting with angry birds.
