I think two screens can add a layer of flexibility for developers and apps in general...:)

or watch a movie in both the screens??if they are close to each other...

Very nice looking device

Re: Nokia shoukd consider this design

heh that looks pretty nice
what kind of touchscreen it has i wonder?

i've got a thing for collaborative screens and think movie playback (if both devices have the same data) would be cool thing to try (mplayer with custom zoom on both with some syncing network action).

Lol!!! also if the idea of a canvas layer still holds for Meego that would be sweeeeet

Re: Nokia shoukd consider this design

get 2 devices
a + b
make sure they both have movie file: testmovie.mpeg (or anything compared matching)
play mplayer on one screen, showing top half the movie content
play mplayer on one screen, showing bottom half the movie content
alter as required.

recently i've been thinking about collaborative apps where different pieces work together creating data on all:

Re: Nokia shoukd consider this design

I think one big advantage of having a physical keyboard is the feel in typing the keys, which I can never find on a virtual keyboard even with tactile feedback.

The design doesn't seem practical if trying to replace a physical keyboard with a 2nd screen, but if the some apps can use an extended screen, the design might work.

No.. not for me.. want a regular keyboard and prefer stylus over big buttons.

lcuk 2010-04-08 01:36

Re: Nokia shoukd consider this design

i agree, but i do like the idea of a dynamic keyboard tho
what if a flexible lcd (oled?) skin can be put over real keyboard - to get the best of both
haptics because you did press a key, and reconfigurability because its a screen.

UNderworld 2010-04-08 01:37

Re: Nokia shoukd consider this design

this IS the future of mobiles...

Open the keyboard, pull it forward and both the screens join to form a bigger one....

Re: Nokia shoukd consider this design

I am a big proponent of a hard keyboard too...BUT the range of creativity is insane consider emails, Maps with POI's, Multitasking and the other insane ideas developers can come up with.

The Samsung U750/Alias 2 does have reconfigurable physical keyboard will LED display on each key, the keys change when in portrait/keypad or landscape/keyboard.

I wish my N93i had something like that.

that does look nice but those proto types usually stay prototypes

can this thread be moved out of "off topic" and into the design forum?

I likes. Given how the design of the prior N-series have been going, this would be refreshing, non-derivative, less indicative of something so last-gen or lacking.

Simply put, I was never happy with the N900 design.

Re: Nokia shoukd consider this design

Interesting idea, but I prefer a hard keyboard over a soft one. Shame there wouldn't be a way to integrate one into that design without making it bulky or reducing the screen size.

I wholeheartedly agree. I've never been a fan of of these slide-out keyboards and MUCH prefer a more accurate resistive touchscreen keyboard with a stylus. This just combines the advantages of both--a touchscreen keyboard and a non-interfering slide-out--with the added advantage that it could also function as a kind of second screen and all the added advantages that could come from that.

Cool concept but I'd prefer a hardware keyboard...the touchscreen could be good for gaming though, you could have circular zones that act like analog sticks, plus with multitouch you could set out a layout similar to MP:H on the DS which would be great for FPSes.

If you can't put stantum touchscreen on both, then have a capacitive on one (the keyboard side) and resistive on the other. I'm sure the UI can be tweaked to make use of both tech whenever appropriate.

Shame, because Nokia above all manufacturers was the most experimental with designs starting with N70, N93, N95, E70 and the E90....hopefully Nokia can lead that train again.

I really like the desing, but I'm concerned about the battery life two screens would give...

lcuk 2010-04-08 13:46

Re: Nokia shoukd consider this design

same as the battery life on 2 n900s ;)

ysss 2010-04-08 13:51

Re: Nokia shoukd consider this design

I think nowadays the battery drainers are not just the screen anymore. 3G radio, wifi, cpu\gpu all can drain your battery really quick when they're 'unleashed'.

It would be interesting if the 2 screens have modular design, even having 2 redundant batteries so they can keep going while you change batteries (if such usecase is required).

2 screen, more money.......

Re: Nokia shoukd consider this design

looks stylish i guess, but with 2 screens.... enjoy your battery-life! :D

they better be SAMOLED displays

btw how aeesome would the n900 be when nokia used amoled-displays? why didnt they use them in the first place?

One pane can be powered by the battery while the other can be powere by solar and kinetic energy....:) :D

That's a brilliant idea. Although my typing performance on capacitative touchscreens still suck. =P
