Re: Would you exchange your N900 for an another phone?

I already have about a month ago for an iphone
The reasons i changed was i'm your everyday user ie not a geek and i wanted to use everyday apps which i assumed would come flooding in on the n900, unfortunately this didn't happen so i traded it in early so i wouldn't lose too much money.

Re: Would you exchange your N900 for an another phone?

Only for a phone with these specs:
Android
Tegra 2 clocked at 800MHz+
The TP2's keyboard (or something almost as good)
3.7in+ screen with higher than 800x480 resolution
more than 512mb of ram

That's really all I can think of for now, but something like that is my dream phone at the moment

Or just an evo with a hardware keyboard really

It's like a deja-vu. I think it's the 10000000000000000th time a thread like this see the light on this forum. And for the 10000000000000000th time I say : "NO!". I had iphone 2g for a whole year and if it wasn't JB I could just use it as a door-stopper. N900 it's the best device ever..for me. I don't give a damn about apps or other things since I got the best multitasking on the market. It also can find every wifi hotspot in the nearby..every. An internet experience pretty near the one a pc can provide...I don't need anything else.

I would exchange mine in a heartbeat for a solid gold phone of the same size. Then I would sell it, buy an N900 and keep the change.

I'd trade it for a N910, but then it would be too late.

How about if we ask this way?

Would you sell your N900 if I give you $75 less what you paid?

Only for a modular PnP N900... ability to connect a bigger screen or another type of keyboard. This phone will never leave my side... It does what i need and i don't lack any programs or functions..

Re: Would you exchange your N900 for an another phone?

I'd like to try the HTC Desire, whether or not I'd exchange it or not I don't know. The only reason why I'd exchange is, well, I can't really think of that reason... I guess just for a change of scenery :p The N900 does what it needs to do for me, and plenty more, absolutely no rush to get rid!

Re: Would you exchange your N900 for an another phone?

I don't think most people 'get' the real reason to own a N900. Hardware matters of course, yes, but putting all hardware comparisons and issues aside for a moment, it's really all about the OS! Nothing else - not Android, Symbian, WinMo, whatever - puts a real desktop-type OS in your friggin' pocket. Especially an open, root-enabled one that lets you do what you want without a jailbreak of some kind.

Everything else - Symbian, OS-X, WinMo - they're designed to be just smartphone OS, and closed at that (ok, Android is kinda open, and Symbian now is open). Nothing else is as capable as Maemo/MeeGo, which was designed from the start as a real pocket computer OS, powerful and flexible enough for whatever the future brings and with the promise of cross-platform compatibility for apps through Qt, which is also open.

So no, I would not trade my N900 for anything now available. I bought it because of Maemo and nothing else has it. I'll keep my N900 until some better hardware comes along. But whatever eventually replaces it, it must run some flavor of linux - such as MeeGo or similar - and so be an open OS.

And no, it will not be Android - no chance, been there, done that, won't get fooled again.

No, I like it and will keep it for a while as primary phone.

One of the primary reasons why I keep my N900 is

Re: Would you exchange your N900 for an another phone?

Yes, the one out now would be the Sony Ericsson X10 I think and coning out will be the unbelievably powerful and super loaded HTC EVO 4G!!!! Have you seen the specs?! It's awesome! I recommend doing a search on Google for a review and YouTube, Definitely getting one when it's out.

N900 has been quite good for a few months, probably the best option out there, but it is a bit buggy still, the dedication by Nokia is not present and they do not listen to what the vast majority of owners want. i,e No mms (a basic option on the most basic of phones), no video call despite the redundant front facing camera, no portrait mode (my windows MDA Vario had this years ago), it's very heavy and thick.

It's a very good phone, alright tablet with a phone bit added! lol, but if it does both, do them both well.

Unfortunately there are other manufacturers that want my money and are offering all that the N900 does and a lot more!

I would also swap it for a HTC Desire.

Oh well, 8 months left on my contract to go. I'm sure something even more awesome will be available by then :)

Re: Would you exchange your N900 for an another phone?

No, there's no other platform (Android is probably the next closest, than Windows Phone 7 Series, and in dead last Apple) that fits me as well as Maemo does right now. Likewise there's few devices that have the hardware I want.

I am also an every day non 'geek/devo/linux maestro' user and regardless of the '900s faults or shortcomings, I still think it is a fantastic device and am going to have it for keeps.

Yes, i will definitely get the next one from Nokia...but I wont get rid of this one...then i can start experimenting with it :D

Especially after the overclock to 900 Mhz, who would give away his N900 ? :D
But I am very curious what is Nokia releasing next. :)

Re: Would you exchange your N900 for an another phone?

I've tried the Droid, G1 and the Galaxy they where no where near as smooth as the Maemo interface... The community development for the N900 is up there with what i got for the WinMo HTC as well... I just want more feed back from Nokia on future updates, or maybe like in the WinMo community constant leaked updates via users... That worked well there were bugs but they where solved in under a week via feedback from a huge user base...

Re: Would you exchange your N900 for an another phone?

Add a second SIM slot and dual radio to the N900 (N900-duo?) (as certain Asian phones), and I'll switch.
