Have you done anything with your N900 that you have had second thoughts?

I have.

I have a Windows background so I am not used to use Linux and I am used to Windows "Are really really sure ?" questions. This in mind I tried to update an application which said missing libhildon1 package. OK. I tried to install/update that one. No help - allready installed. Then I thought: no problemo, I will remove/re-install this to make sure it is the latest version. While removing I was asked are you sure you want to continue (with a list of affected applications). As I am Bold and Beatiful, I was thinking why the heck not. If it is REALLY important I will be asked again and what harm can this remove/re-install anyway do? I know now ...

Using it while taking a bath (although the stupid part was letting it fall out of my hands...). Immediately removed the battery and let it dry for a day. Works without a glitch (and still keeps me company during long baths...).

Leaving it on the table and my 130 pound daughter sat on it....had to send it in for repairs.....

I gave mine to my girlfriend to try out Angry Birds... Couldn't talk to her for the next 2 hours... :-D

That could be a problem.....get her on a diet.

I have not abused mine yet....nor has anybody else, so probably the most stupid thing was to overclock it.....??

I haven't tested this kind of functionality, but I thought about creating an app called "Black Rabbit" which abuses the vibration feature while autoplaying Whitesnake's "Is This Love". With intensity modifyer (automated, if needed) and image slideshow. Unfortunately the vibration transmits to a half pulled out stylus insufficiently.

same here! i let out such a girlie gasp it wasn't even funny! totally undamaged tho *whew*

worst thing was trying out that silly mplayer or whatever....started a video & it was only playing in a tiny little box on the side so i tried to stretch it out with stylus, which somehow put a scratch on my screen! the screen protector i ordered came in the next day!

dumbest thing was deleting all the icons when i thought i was just deleting copies of the icons...had to reflash the whole phone...

Very nice threat.

The most stupid thing I did was to move with "mv" instruction all the usr directory to home directory. all was fine till I tries to reboot the devide...

I installed Joiku, that was my biggest mistake I did :(

Afterwards nothing WLAN related worked anymore and the Joiku support wasn't able to fix the issue too!

I gave it to my cousin about 2 days after I got it. He dropped it on a manky old bus floor and scratched the screen. To this day it is still the only scratch on the device. I was pissed.

i dint really think it was this stupid but it did turn out to be..

my first day with n900..i had to tranfer a lot of contacts from my old phone..i thot i would do multiple rounds using the sim..so dint put the battery cover on..as soon as i started the phone,i got INTERNAL ERROR: APP CAMERA FAILED. device reboots 17 times n it bricks.

Am based in India and N900 isnt launched here yet..so no service n not poss to return it also..i was devastated..$600 is a lot of money here

The first thing i learned about N900 was HOW TO UNBRICK IT :)

was filming a snowball fight at uni.. =D... the phone got hit and flew out of my hands ... had to dig it out of the snow .. ;D.. thankfully no scratches and works fine.. !

Not N900, but applying a cheap hard case protector to my Touch Pro2 which then proceeded to scratch the hell out of my new Touch Pro2 I found out when I took it off. I only get soft silicone or gel cases now.

3 weeks after getting my N900, i was the car with my dad and we were pulling up to our driveway, and he asked me to get the mail from the mailbox, and at the time it was pitch-black out (coming back from a play late in the evening). And the problem was that i forgot that my N900 was on my lap, so when i got up to step out of the car, my N900 fell out of my lap, out the car door, and on to the concrete driveway face-down. But amazingly, there were no scratches on the face - aside from a tiny microscratch near the Nokia logo on the bezel. However i do have 3 tiny dints along the bottom side of the bezel and a small nick on the lower-left corner of the slide-out keyboard. I'm just glad nothing worse happened to it :p

Dropped it from 5th floor to 3th (5+ meters I believe.)

From there, down 5 meters, it could have gone all the way down but it stopped. Took little damage, but everything works still.

Yeah.. temping with the inner circle is about the most stupid thing i ever done. I have overclocked, partitioned and been installing apps from the extras-devel.

Also have dropped it twice.. when it happens.. it's like the time stops. You don't hear a sound.. until you have confirmed everything is okay with your baby.

But i am generally pretty dumb and will continue.. (not with the dropping part hopefully)

The dumbest thing for me must be buying such an expensive device. Since now I've dropped three Nokia's in a lake and have destroyed three screens, two Nokia's and one Samsung.

And sadly the holiday season and long (sober!) nights in the summercottage are still ahead. I'll propably have to chain mine to the belt or something to avoid it dropping in the lake. Though it won't be enough if I drop in the lake with it.. :p

play volleyball with the phone in my pocket. i dove for the ball and landed on my phone. b/c of the hard cover protector it scratch both end of the keyboard. epic fail....

Do not put your phone in your chest pocket of your shirt and do anything else than sit on your seat, carefully taking note that you have your phone in your shirt chest pocket.

I didn't, on several occasions, so my phone has some severe scratching and dents already =(

I found that my n900 was useless as a hammer.

From a pc computer connected with root on the n900 :

a fast typpying rm -rf / instead of rm -rf * in a folder ... as / is near * on numkeypad ... :( as it begin to remove first folder before /bin ... flash was required

Didn't work particularly well as a toothpick either. Just tried it and now have ruptured my gumline.

Maybe later I'll see if it works well like a bar of soap. You know, lather it up a bit.
