Missing Photos, Videos and bookmarks
 

Hello all,

I have had this problem for about a week now ever since the last over the air update for the n900

I have lost the following:

bookmarks all missing within browser
Videos not showing in media player
Photos not showing in photo browser

but strangely everthing shows up in the file manager. and when selected will play the video or photo selected.

I have tried to re-flash the device but it is still having the same problem!

Has anyone else experienced this and if so is their a solution to fix it?

Interesting. Maybe a tracker problem for videos, although I'm sure that doesn't handle bookmarks.

I guess nobody knows a solution to this then! Am I the first to encounter this problem?

What happens if you try and add a bookmark - does that appear?

Very good question, just tried it and yes I can add new bookmarks but all my old ones have gone! So maybe thats one problem solved kind of!

Now to get my phone to recognise it has photos and videos stored on its internal storage!

type in xterminal

"tracker-processes -r" should reset files for media player

When I did my initial search I found this same xterminal command which I tried and also just tried again. It makes media player think for a minutes then shows again (no songs) (no videos) 48 Stations etc. But in my photos just says (no images), this phone is really starting to bug me know! Why will it not just work like the old Nokia used to?

I have just copied a new film to my phone and loaded up media player.

It started doing its background scan for files then came up 'Operation failed'

something is really wrong with this!

Possibly some kind of filesystem corruption?

i had a similar issue after a reflash - no audio video or photos showed up. i managed to cure it by deleting .cache

open terminal then

rm -rf .cache

you'll get the yellow banner saying "scanning new meida" or similar next time u try to access media player/photos and u should be back in business.

I just tried this and still nothing in media player or photos.

i gave .thumbnails the same treatment but was of the impression it was .cache that sorted it. so maybe try this too.

other possibility is that some peice of media is trippin it up and making it go wrong. maybe try removing anything you added just prior to it breaking.

Just tried .thumbnails with the same result as before!

Their was an update to Maemo which resulted with this problem. thats all I can think which has changed! I remember receiving the update and then shortly after noticing things going missing!

Well I am buggered if I can sort this out! Is their any way of returning my phone to the factory out of the box condition? I have flashed it twice but it still retains files!

I have a problem kinda like that. I have pictures/videos that I took with the n900 a while ago, and the will not play/show in the media player or picture viewer. (They do show in in the file manager)
So here is the kicker....I took a few more pictures a few days ago, and the will display in the photo player. Here's the next strange thing.... I have the Personal Photo Frame on one of my desktops, and it shows "All" of my pictures.
I think it may have something to do with (And I could be way off here) changing my camera settings from wide-screen to High Resolution. At lease that is when I notice it started....I think. So at this point the picture viewer will only show pictures that are in high resolution.

Found the fix...So I put the camera back into widescreen mode, and rebooted. Now all the old pictures show and the new ones as well.

So I went back into the camera settings and changed it back to High then went to see if I could still view the pictures (I could)
Once that was done I rebooted again to see if it would keep and it did

Dont know if this problem is related to yours but hope it might give you a few ideas.

It's a pity you had to do it that way rather than actually finding what the actual problem was, but glad you managed to fix it.

Did this and all is back to normal! The hard reset is in two parts firstly re-flashing the OS and secondly resetting the Mass Memory! It was only when I reset the Mass Storage it solved my problem!
