Best GUI music player for the N900?

The one that comes with the N900 is OK but is there a better and more complete alternative?

Re: Best GUI music player for the N900?

Great question, I've read that the built-in player will be patched in the next firmware release... then hopefully it'll become stable with internet radio feeds... currently it switches feeds randomly...

Re: Best GUI music player for the N900?

There are a few very good players out there, but they do lack in a cool GUI. So I'm sticking with my default player for now. :/

But do check out Media Box!

Re: Best GUI music player for the N900?

It depends on what you want. I happen to like the built in player a lot, but it has two features lacking that I would love for it to have.

1.- A built in equalizer

2.- The ability of building a play list by selecting files from the file system and not just from the tracker meta-file data.

The first one is basically solved by a third party program called MAFW Equalizer. (Unfortunately it is CPU intensive and therefore degrades performance and battery life.)
http://blogs.igalia.com/jasuarez/tag...t-eq-renderer/

Number two is partially solved by a media player called symfonie. It allows one to browse into a folder and select the files within to play them. It comes with a built in equalizer. However, it has no concept of a playlist. So its usefulness is limited.

Between these two programs I do rather well until the perfect player comes along.

Re: Best GUI music player for the N900?

While some of 3rd party media players are good the default one with different views and all is clearly number one for me.

The thing that i really want it to have is portrait. Because for me music player and phone are two things that i really need to have that portrait mode.

Equalizer would be nice, but happily my Denon in-ears that are a bit bass heavy sound great on N900. Thought i'm getting new in-ears next week and it could be another story.

how about adding the "newly added" feature

For the default music player? It got it already. In music player tap the top bar and go to playlists, go to newly added. It will show 30 newest songs added.

the perfect player should have:
-forecast
-fading
-pitching
-id3-tagging
... also mixing would be cool and visualisation!

i have designed an alternative interface for Media Player

http://img706.imageshack.us/img706/8022/immaginemhu.png

http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/5594/immaginexh.png

I don't able to introduce a decent scroll bar and the options to:
- Sleeper function
- Start visualization of the Symbian S60.

What dou you think?

Re: Best GUI music player for the N900?

For myself what i would like is a player with different guis.

It's great to have an intricate gui when you are standing or sitting around. When you are trying to change songs while driving though, its not so great.

So what I would like is a media player that has different gui profiles for what you are doing.

I'm working on making my old iphone a remote for controlling media players, so maybe thats the answer as long as these media programs support dbus.

enna is beatifull, but it isn't useful such my concept.

Moreover it was thought such an alternative of MediaPlayer.

My concept is an alternative for only the Music Player. how the title of topic request.

Yeah, but it's been dumped by the developers because Nokia told them to.

That was gearing up to be the best of the best. The guys were working their nuts off to bring us the ultimate music player. It could ID songs from an external source and we had a 10 band equalizer on the way, but Nokia told them to stop development on it, no good reasons given, just "Stop". "WE" aka Nokia, don't want you wasting your time on Maemo 5"
Sod all the peeps that have splashed out their hard earned cash on the N900. "WE, aka Nokia, want you to stop".

There's also Canola, but seems like development has stopped on that as well...... Sheeshhttp://fc05.deviantart.net/fs37/f/20...e_letter_q.gif

It is a great player. Looks good, plays well, (if a bit sluggish with the album art). I use it myself. It's just a shame there isn't going to be any more features added like the ones we all asked for.:(

i know that this isn't GUI related, but musicplayer: mpd works on the n900. will mpdscribble and nmpcpp as a client work too, building them from source it should be possible to get them working..

/e: if i posted in wrong thread i'm sorry but my browsing speed is ****ed up atm.

Polished, intuitive, fast, low on resources, simple but feature rich and touch optimized player?

Nope.

I must be the only person who thinks that the stock media player does a perfectly good job at music playback (I don't like EQ, and I'm not fussy about gapless playback). :p

It has no random feature. If you select random it plays the tracks in exactly the same order each and everytime. That reason alone makes it a pretty poor music player. Unfortunately all the other music players I have tried for N900 have even bigger short comings (for example mediabox not even being able to read m3u playlists).

I must be getting old, because I've always thought that albums were created to have tracks listened to in a particular order. Can you imagine listening to Pink Floyd in random order? ;)

I would hold off until MohammaAG releases his replacement for the stock music player.

Nice easy GUI and plenty of usability :)

LOL, my exact reasonings. I hardly ever use random play because of all my Floyd albums. Now if someone could produce a player that could randomly pick folders and play all the songs sequentially from that folder... now you are talking ;)

Yes, the Audio Player is to slow and make some freeze sometimes...
And wherease others audio players, we can't :
- Have the album slide selection (like iPod's).
- The album's picture as screensaver.

same here

i wish developers would enhance the builty on version instead og making a million new players.

i like the built in version best of all players Ive tried; the gui on the thrid party releases just doesnt cut it for me.

I have tried downloading Enna, nut the application manager informs me that i cannot install it due to a package conflict with libeina0.
Does anyone know how to install Enna, and work around this conflict?

Re: Best GUI music player for the N900?

stock music player is very capable, i love the quick search function. I dont understand why people are so obsessed abt playlists here. I always wanted my cds as digital music and being able to scan and play albums i wanted. Plenty of threads explaining how metadata is kept in n900 and how u should embed album art. It works like a charm

Guess we have very very different ideas of what an mp3 player should do. I hardly even listen to albums. I create playlists and listen to a playlist for my mood. May be several albums of one artist or may be favourite songs from different artists. Or I could listen to all tracks from one genre. Is really annoying listening on N900 and playing a playlist of let's say 50 songs and I get to number 10 and go to do something else. If I switch on the next day and start listening I have to hear the same 10 songs that played previously. Well and truly totally annoying. Apart from that I want the next song to be a suprise. Thanks to the N900 media player I am almost sent back to the stone ages of radio cassettes.

Re: Best GUI music player for the N900?

Well, if only I was a programmer... I'd port guayadeque to the N900. For me it has proven to be the best player on desktop (Linux) and I wished, there would be something similar (with that smart play function) and touch-friendly for maemo... one can at least dream of it :o

I dont get WHY they rewrtiten an mediaplayer just to make it opensource. Why not invest this coding in a new player instead with improved stuff in QtQuick instead of an halfdead library like gtk/hildon? That could be easyier to port to meego in the future too.

The Open Media Player uses Qt, not GTK. I guess the reason for not using QtQuick is that it is still in its relative infancy. It is not yet ready for use in a application that is designed to replace the stock media player. The lack of ready-made components is probably another factor. I expect that the team wanted to develop the UI as quickly as possible, making use of their familiarity with Qt Widgets.

But hey, I could be completely wrong. :p ;)
