i dont think iphone-games are debian packages...?! correct me if i'm wrong.

technically it should be possible because both the n900 and iphone have quite similar hardware, but its up to the developers to create n900-versions of their games.

If you can run your iPhone games under Debian, then yes...

Otherwise, not so much. You know how many years it took to reimplement the Win32 API (WINE project) to a decent standard o performance and functionality? While I'm sure the iPhone APIs are simpler and better documented, it's still a huge project, and if there were any efforts (I don't know of any), they'd be impractically incomplete/buggy/slow at this point.

Some iPhone applications are .deb packages, but if a package is a debian package that doesn't mean it can be installed :)
Both have very different systems for UIs and such, so even if you install a .deb package it won't work/run

If the dev ports the app it would run.
(Hint: Angry Birds)

Re: Iphone games on n900??

@numair: .deb is actually just the wrapper (used for jailbroken iphone apps). The binaries (executables) inside them are completely different from the ones used by N900. So, no, they're not compatible with one another.

But if there's any particular app or games that you would really like to have on N900; why don't you write to the developers (there should be a link to them in their respective appstore pages) and see if they would consider porting their apps to N900.

Re: Iphone games on n900??

@numair: I don't use my n900 much or play games on it..

- Bounce is a good showcase, albeit way too short if you actually wanna play it for real...
- Angry birds is a favorite here... but if you have the iphone\ipad, then it's much better to buy it from the AppStore. Cheaper and comes with 3x as many levels.

If you're into emulator, there's a bunch of console and yester-years computer emulator. That's N900's strength, in this category...

Re: Iphone games on n900??

I was trying to run an .ipa
So, what I figured out:

.ipa is actually an .zip
But it'd need something like wine, as on angry birds v1.6.1 i get the error

Code:

./AngryBirds: line 2: syntax error: unexpected "(" (expecting ")")
The same does preenv

EDIT: wait a bit... How was Wine written? How does it exactly work?

BRAINSTORM::how can we make some kinda Wine for iPhone apps?!

It tries to reimplement the Windows API. For details please see the their development section: [1]

Why would somebody want to do that?
Seriously, I have immense respect for the technical achievements of the wine project but I think creating a compatibility layer for another closed source system by stumbling in the dark due to lacking or even misleading documentation and without getting any help from their side is a lost cause - even for a big project like wine.
Our little community, which is barely able to maintain the own platform, should not step into that ring.

If you want to run Windows programs, get Windows! And if you want to run iOS programs get an iPhone!

Re: Iphone games on n900??

Being able to migrate applications to another platform is a good way to expand uptake of a new platform. Not always the case, of course, but games usually make only small use of platform APIs
