Palm or Nokia
I have looked both at the Palm pre Plus and the Nokia n900 has love both of them. could anyone tell me which is better and why or give negatives and positives for both phones to help me decide please.
Also one thing i love the look of is the 3D games on the palm is their many good 3d games for the nokia n900. The main thing i want to use the phone for in the internet and games Let the battle begin |
Re: Palm or Nokia
One thing aside device quality, is Palm's current financial situation. If you're not aware, it's a good idea to find out about it before buying their stuff.

Re: Palm or Nokia
Ohh... Thank
Lets just ignore that for the moment...(i am not sure if that will be easy for palm :D) But what phone would you think is the better out the two |
Re: Palm or Nokia
Palm has been dying for more than 5 years now... it's on steady decline, the last 'CPR' was administered to it by Elevation Partners in the form of some $300M investment\buy out 2 years ago. Its public mindshare footprint has been declining too, especially with such robust competitors like the android coalition, blackberry, nokia and apple.
Nokia's linux strategy is somewhat in a state of flux. There's lots of promise within MeeGo, but if you haven't invested anything yet; I'd take the wait and see approach to know something more definite. If you want a phone with 3d games, the iPhone has no comparison.. It still has the best selection, quality and pricing for mobile games. |
Re: Palm or Nokia
I understand that the iphones games are exceptional but have taken a disliking to the iphone.
Don't ask why I Dont know I just ...Dont like it |
Re: Palm or Nokia
Then your gonna miss all the great 3D-Games ;)

Software-wise, both are good but the N900/Maemo/MeeGo wins again because it's ultimately more capable and much more open than WebOS. Plus, as ysss said, Palm is all but dead. They've let it be known they're actively seeking buyers. Palm has only 2 options: 1. Be bought out, most likely by a Chinese company. 2. Go bankrupt, more likely than #1 because Palm would be cheaper to acquire then and could be bought in pieces. The corpse will be picked over for WebOS or the Palm name, though those have a pretty limited value. Patent rights are the only thing of solid value Palm owns anymore. Quote:

Re: Palm or Nokia
I know i feel that Jobs has made stupid decisions with the iphone and at the beginning it lacked simple phone features and then i mean when they release a new they are like omg no 1 ever though of video before. And now for the new 4.0 version. Everyone like omg jobs is a genius 4 inventing multitasking.
Some people are pretty stupid But has the n900 got many good games |

@evankwh:
If the main thing you want out of a phone is 3D games, then you will probably be disappointed by the current lack of such content. There are not currently very many commercial developers for Maemo, and while that hasn't stopped the community from coming out with some really awesome applications, certain categories of things (such as high-budget games) are not prevalent. As far as the phone hardware goes, I'd fully recommend it. The Operating System is great in most ways, and the browsing experience in particular is superb. I can't speak for the Palm Pre, not having used it much, but the N900's browser will not disappoint - that, I can essentially guarantee. You can browse the web just the same as if you were on a desktop computer (yes, even including "mouse hover" functionality for menus and stuff that are normally awkward/impossible on a phone, and yes, including Flash), and it's fast. GMail with full AJAX (e.g. the fancy desktop version)? No problem. If you want more of an "iPhone experience without the iPhone" (or without Apple), then you may be outside of what I would consider the N900's target demographic. It's an excellent phone, and I would recommend it to others in general, but I don't know if it fully fits your use-case. Even if you don't decide to go with the N900, keep tuned to the news on MeeGo, because if it kicks off like they think it will, it should keep the good parts of Maemo, as well as be more your style. :P |
Re: Palm or Nokia
I have heard about MeeGo but dont really know anything about it.
I feel the the emulators which i could get 4 n900 could make up 4 3d games anyway is there anywhere u can get free videos/films 2 download 2 n900 though, cause there is so much memory. |
