You need to customize ~/.config/tracker/tracker.cfg to only check the folders you want to use. I can help you make a custom config if you tell me where you keep your movies, music and pics.

This depends on whether you only ever want to just play songs from that folder, or whether it's just a temporary thing. If the latter, changing the tracker config won't help. You'd be better tagging those files with a different genre, then creating a playlist by genre.

i would rather tag the genre, then.

ermmm do you have any techniques to tag them quickly? i have like a thousand of songs to do this.

Re: How to play musics in the SPECIFIC folder?

Make a playlist on your computer, import that with the rest of your songs.

You really need to ditch folder-based organization of music and use metadata. Organizing by folders is a piss poor way of organizing things like music.

i put /media/mmc1/Games under # List of directory roots NOT to index and NOT to watch is that the correct spot to stop it from looking there? becuse its still showing the game sounds in media player. thanks

"your computer" can be the n900 itself. Then there is no need to import the playlist.

It works great for me. It is a easy as:
Code:

ls *.mp3 > playlistname.m3u
in each directory.

No, you use the terminal application to make a playlist for
each directory..

The ls command lists files in the current directory, or in the directories named following the command.

I think the playlists can be almost anywhere, but I have been putting them togeter with the media files.

If the playlist is anywhere but the same directory as the music then the paths to the music files need to be absolute (or at least a full path relative to the location of the playlist)

I just use Symfonie. It's a simple media player with equalizer and file/folder based browse/playback.

As you said, use Mediabox. It has option to play from folders.

Re: How to play musics in the SPECIFIC folder?

I use the following script to get a playlist including the mp3 of a chosen folder:

#!/bin/sh
find /home/user/MyDocs/Music -name *.mp3 > /home/user/MyDocs/Musica/Playlist.m3u

than I set up a desktop command script that gets updated when clicked and I find the playlist done under the imported ones.

Re: How to play musics in the SPECIFIC folder?

Were the following posts useful?

#2 - "edit the tracker.cfg file"
#4 - "manually genre tag all your mp3s"
#6 - "make playlists on your computer and tag your mp3s"

I've got no right to rant - but c'mon guys...

Thank goodness the OP worked it out for himself.

i found an easy way to create playlists from folders.
i installed Kmplayer.

there is a function ... "generate playlist".
select "directory media scanner"

then "playlist options"--> export m3u

you will find the new playlist in mediaplayer (imported playlistst)
