Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
good work mate your on the ball and have been busy
just to let you know i appreciate your work and efforts well done and keep it up :-) |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
my-sa-ruba ! or whatever he says... er wait.. maybe im thinking of "Out Of This World" lol.
|
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
I've compiled Out of this World too, but the game asks for the password at start and I can't pass it.
Trying Hear of the Alien right now :) |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
Good work dude! is that 3 games you ported over in a day?????
Just getting the game files for this now! cant wait to try it. It's one of the first games I remember playing! |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
- Another world asks for the password at startup, and the engine doesn't crack it :(
- Heart of the Aliens is working, but is scaled to 608x384 (or something like that). I'm trying to make it fullscreen. 3 games in a day? Nop, a lot more, cause SDL games is very easy to port. The problem is when you try to hack something. Also I've compiled this: - Rise of the triads: works fine in 640x480, trying to make it 800x480. - Red Alert: working fine in 800x480, needs to fix mouse buttons - Abuse: needs... I don't remember.. maybe I'll make the package soon - Quake2 is already in extras-testing - Alien Blaster too... - Opentyrian too... |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
oooooh! looking forward to red alert!!! Hope you manage to get the mouse fix soon! Seen a version mentioned on the forums before but apparently that has issues with telsa coils which would be no good for me!
SDL games are only easy to port if you have a clue what ya doing! I wouldn't know where to begin! Only just getting into linux since getting this phone but I'm learning! |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
really sorry if this is a silly noob question but where to get the data files for this game ?

Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
Anyone know the differences between this version and SNES version. (Which I have been rocking for forever. Almost beat it too on the N900)

Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
I cannot get this to work
I have got the data files in the Nokia N900/MyDocs/flashback/ folder... What am I doing wrong.... |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
The folder should be .flashback (you forgot the dot).
|
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
I cannot get my pc or my N900 to accept naming the folder ".flashback" :(

It's fantastic that these games are being ported, but it's a pitty not all of the screen estate gets used. It kills the immersion on an already "small" screen for me personally. :) |

either cd to mydocs then: mv flashback .flashback or mv full/flashback/path full/.flashback/path |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
I noticed a few things...
- Intro has no sound - Ingame sounds are a bit weird - gameplay (movements) seem a bit faster then the original... overclocked n900 issue? |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
Ahh the memories, used to love this game!
|
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
yeah, I noticed that with the sounds too. Cant remember what it sounded like originally so didn't know if was an issue with this version or what.
My N900 isn't OC'd yet and I think it runs pretty much at normal speed so it may very well be an OC issue! |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port

1- If you want all game sounds you must add these files. 2- That's because I reduced the sound sample rate (speed problems) 3- Overclock maybe... for me it's fine (I don't remember when I played the game in my computer if it was slowly) |

Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
I cant seem to rename the folder flashback to .flashback
within file manager, the folder is there (same folder as games, cities, audio clips etc) tried - cd mydocs mv flashback .flashback but states file or folder not exist |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
Remember that it's case sensitive.
ls the contents of MyDocs to make sure you have the folder there and know the exact case etc |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
Well I still feel like an utter noob!!
when I connect to a pc I have a folder called MyDocs\.flashback inside there is a folder which called data (about 6.41mb), then there is one file called fb.cfg (104bytes), one file called fb.com (896 bytes) and one called readme 4.92 kbytes still cannot get flashback to run... can someone advise what i've done wrong? |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
@Daywalker:
Put the files in .flashback folder, NOT in .flashback/data |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
i put the files into ~/MyDocs/.flashback/ but it still says it cannot find them. what am i missing? i also tried the same with no subdirs but it also didnt work.
Code:
~/MyDocs/.flashback $ ls -lR |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
don't put files in subfolders!
|
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
still doesnt work for me. what version of the game should the files come from? i'm using the original amiga files.
|
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
PC game data files dude!
|
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
Thanks, found the DOS version and that did the trick.
Amiga was actually the original version tho, the DOS version was a port too :P |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
The game speed is ok but the sound is in late.... It seems out of sync.
Am I alone to have this problem? |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
Keeps dumping me back to desktop. No errors or notifications, screen goes black, see the app title, it thinks for a sec, then desktop.
Tried two different download sources for the game files. They aren't case sensitive are they? |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
you have to copy the content of the game's directory DATA into the hidden folder named .flashback.
Try in this way. The game speed is ok but the audio delay is around 1 or 2 seconds... too much |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
I did. two sources.
Code:
~/MyDocs/.flashback $ ls |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
Copy just the files from the data folder into the .flashback folder.
Anyone knows which keys I have to use? I can't figure out how to make big jumps. Thanks for the great game! rok |
Re: [Maemo 5] Flashback port
Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between this version and the SNES version. Which one has the better graphics? Does this version have more content, different storyline?
