Re: App for hiding pictures??
just create a folder called "private" nothing in that folder will be picked up by gthe tracker so no embarrasing boobs popping up infront of your mother in law. doesn't actually hide the pictures from the phne browser so you can still find them easily enough when you want to.

Re: App for hiding pictures??
try this in xterm,
tracker-processes -r then restart phone, it might take a while indexing your media again depending how much you have. but won't list anything in private folder. |
Re: App for hiding pictures??
haha interesting but itz not so in my case
|
Re: App for hiding pictures??
it has to be named private or .private with a dot? .. at another thread i found this but it hides the folder from file explorer too.

Re: App for hiding pictures??
the way you can hide pix, is by adding tags to your pix.
Filter the tags you do not want seen so they will not be displayed. voila theyr hidden |

it lets you set which folders the tracker should monitor and which it should ignore, and lets you reset the tracker without using xterm too, but like i said sometimes i find it doesn't work quite as expected! |
Re: App for hiding pictures??
i might be doing something wrong but this is not working .. renamed the folder to private using file manager .. then in xterm restarted the tracker processes .. restarted the phone it showed a message in photo gallery tht it needs sometime to refresh ... bt the precious pictures are still in the gallery

Yes, you can't "slide" from pic gallery, you only can see one-by-one, but for... work... pics and vids it's nice for me! ... I can't... I love to be clear...THE INTERNET IS FOR POOOOOOOORN! |
Re: App for hiding pictures??
If you install tracker.cfg you can set any folder on the device to don't watch, then rebuild the database, it won't index that folder anymore. dots in front of folder names only hides the folder in xterm unless you do an ls -a then you get to see them.

Re: App for hiding pictures??
Before the topic goes completely off-topic discussing kittens...
Hiding is easy but what maemo lacks is a good app for encrypting.. we already have apps like password safe which encrypt and keep a log of our passwords, it would be nice to take the idea one step more and have a better interface to quickly encrypt a file and retrieve it with a slightly modified app |
Re: App for hiding pictures??
When i had my SE-C902, i discovered that I could hide certain pictures from being visible in the gallery or file manager. What I did was change the properties of the photo. (This is only a possible fix using windows, other OS's may work in a similar way)
select the photo you want to hide; right click, goto properties, and you'll see 3 tick boxes, tick the box that says "hidden" then apply, then ok to exit. now the image itself is on the phone, but it should not be viewable in the gallery. I haven't tested this method yet on the N900 but it worked on my SE. let me know if this works for you. |
Re: App for hiding pictures??
One possible use of gpg is to encrypt files.
I've had amusing uses for it. Encrypt $ gpg -c myfile.txt (outputs myfile.txt.gpg. you may then wish to $ rm myfile.txt which deletes the original file) Decrypt $ gpg myfile.txt.gpg You may also wish to rename the file after encrypting it ( $ mv myfile.txt nothingtoseehere but it may prompt for a rename of the output, you can simply press enter to keep the old/default filename) EDIT: james174's idea is...much less secure than gpg (and don't kid yourself there either). On linux the CLI equivalent would be to rename the file or folder with a dot/period prefix, as in .documents This isn't real security and meant to keep directories "pretty". |
