Better GBA emulation: Vote!

So the GBA thing has been coming up recently and many people, including myself, thing that it's a major thing that's missing right now that the N900 is fully capable of emulating at 100% speed.

So this is a petition and a bounty for devs: Please make a good GBA emulator! That would all kinds of awesome! I'm willing to pay/donate!

BTW, is fms' VGBA open source? If so someone other than fms could improve it (since he's not interested in continuing development on it).
Making a nice GUI (like on PSX4all/PicoDrive/DrNokSNES) would be excellent and I'm willing to skin it :)

I wouldn't support a petition in this scenario because it comes off as pushy towards people who don't owe us anything.

I would however support a bounty system, 20$ from me to the first person to code an emulator that runs almost all games at full speed with a healthy amount of options and settings (save states, key mapping, and pixel softening is a must) I'm sure others would be willing to add to that amount

P.S. That childish poll isn't going to accomplish anything, who's going to vote against making the N900 a better device?

Re: Better GBA emulation: Vote!

I would donate a small amount ($1-$15) too. I love GBA games and they're now %50~ of my games on N900, since there's no big title for it. I prefer a nDS emulator but don't know if its possible, so better emulation is ok too =)

Re: Better GBA emulation: Vote!

i wonder could they create a ds emulator maybe if you split the screen down the middle and used one half for top and other for bottom could work maybe,

I never said anyone owes me or anyone else anything. You missed the point entirely if you think this post is childish. There isn't an option for one vote option. But "hey, that's like, your opinion man" -The Dude

BTW, I don't see a DS emulator coming this year if at all. They're having problems emulating on a PC. Emulating it on a device like this is a whole other problem.

Re: Better GBA emulation: Vote!

tbh though the n900 has more in common with a ds than a pc we have a touchscreen a built in microphone etc they are really the only problem for emulating a ds id say (mostly hardware related due to the ds not having great graphics)

Re: Better GBA emulation: Vote!

DS emulation would be easier on a N900, because they have the same ARM architecture... Anyway, VGBA works perfectly fine on my n810, not understanding where all the hate is coming from.

BETTER NES emulator too =D

Yeah I have to second that request for a NES emulator!

VGBA is very usable but i'd agree there is room for improvement.

Re: Better GBA emulation: Vote!

I agree, fms has done a great job getting his emulators on the N900, and are for the most part excellent already, but it doesn't look like he's continuing development of them. MasterGear especially has some compatibility issues (afterburner and hangon for example don't work). I'd definetely donate to someone who continued improving these emulators.

FMS, I know you are watching this, lol, I see you are currently actively viewing this thread. Why not sell your products? I understand you are very skilled, you are among the few who actually coded the emulators from scratch. I don't know a problem, there is already a lot of people willing to donate money. Your emulators only require a little bit more work... sound wise, save/load states, and 2player support...

I'd like to see improvement but only if the creators get something in return, If I had the money right now I'd donate but unfortunately I just don't :(

Re: Better GBA emulation: Vote!

I think somebody should port a completely different GBA emulator (a one that would actually be open source). I would suggest VisualBoyAdvance since it would also emulate regular gameboy (wich would solve the problem of bad emulation of that console too).

I'll give $30 for the ability to frameskip in fire emblem.

speed's fine, would like the ability to skip through massive bits of storyline.

Re: Better GBA emulation: Vote!

yeah, let us pay for a working emulator. there goes open source. lets face it, not a lot of good programmers are willing to program for the n900 without a good motivation/incentive.

its inevitable that it will be obsolete once a new one is released. n900 is incomplete FFS. programmers know this so they're using the n900 as a test platform. not for casual users at all.

Paying for apps does not always negate open source. The argument that a new one will be released is not a very good one because you can say that about every device on the market. You can even say that about an entirely different product too.

The N900, while it has is flaws, is not incomplete. The N900 is as much of a test platform as the 770 and 8xx. That is to say, not at all. People who buy this device know exactly what they're getting into.
That is to say, people who aren't into casual gaming, and people who are, both own N900s. The evidence lies in the fact that DrNokSNES, Picodrive, SCUMMVM and other emulators are one of the most popular apps on the N900. Not even mentioning the amount of interest that goes into the PSX4ALL development. (hoping that zodttd will get into the N900 business :D ).

VGBA works fine, but I would like to play in fullscreen and the sound is bad.

Unfortunately pokemon smaragd doesn't work. Only a white screen. Yes I like to play Pokemon... :D

yeah, full screen is in this, and i have ALL gba pokemon games running at 60fps @ just over 700 MHz

- and the sound is perfect

the emulator is really good, and whilst otheremu like drnoksnes, have nicer user menus, vgba and vnes are by far superior, and fms deserves mad kudos

Seriously? Overclocking an N900 and having it at 700mhz on load while playing something as simple as pokemon is really good? I'm not dissing fms here, it's hard work making an emulator but come on.
