We would like to hear from you!
We invite everyone to browse around the site and check out all its features.
We also would like to hear from you on what you think about the site, as well as what you want added, changed, or removed. You can start a new thread in the Comment/Suggest forum, or simply reply to this thread. Thank you for visiting! |
I like this site a lot.
I was wondering though if there was any way to configure the software so we could subscribe to an RSS feed for certain threads. (I'm thinking first of Mike's ersatz 770 blog.) That would be really useful, and of course that would enable planet.maemo to include the key threads. Roger |
Thanks Roger! There are still only a few people in the forums but hope fully that would change as the Nokia 770 gets released in the market.
Right now, the forums can generate RSS/XML feeds for a forum but not for a thread. I can create a new forum for Mike but the problem is if we can persuade him to create new threads rather than just post replies. ;) I will still look for a solution to parse the thread though. |

-- edited to add -- BTW, I don't give a rat's testicle about RSS. Don't use it. The 770 will probably be my intro to it. It remains to be seen if I will like it. I hate podcasts too, if that's helpful... |

If Mike posts a new thread each day, then Planet Maemo can show his blogs. But then we readers would have to go to a different thread every day to read what he's posted. We couldn't just scroll through one long stream of posts as we do now. Hm-m. Almost six of one, half a dozen of the other -- but even though it might seem less convenient to Mike, I think lots more people would see what he posts through Planet Maemo. And they would be clicking from there directly to the right thread too . . . no matter which day they see it. But is Mike really a curmudgeon or does he just play one on the internet? :) Seriously, even if it's an ersatz blog, you've got to have RSS for it to work, IMO. Roger |
It's an ersatz blog. Reggie has offered *real* blogware -- but it all sounds too much like that foul four-letter word: WORK!
And I'm doing the ersatz blog for *here*. If people want to read it, let them come here. I don't care about RSS or the inability of other sites to traffic in it. Aside from no interest (presently) in RSS, and a hatred of podcasts, I also hate cellphones (sorry, Nokia!). |
So far I love the site. My only suggestion though would be to make the site Firefox friendly.

Nice site. I'm starting to feel quite at home here. I swear I will do some more PSP post when I get the chance and a net connection I can use in the evenings!
Perhaps an articles section would be nice for random scribblings from members and for reviewing new bits of hardware/software? |
Thanks Masamune!
Yes, a reviews section is planned. The reviews section will be be for both software, hardware, and accessories related to the internet tablet, and maybe for other hardware as well. ;) It will look like the following: http://www.linuxquestions.org/review...hp?product=360 Members will be able to add items for review and other members can review them. I hope to purchase and install the system soon, before the Nokia 770 is released. |

Yea occasionally the NavBar loads vertically. Doesn't happen all the time though. I'll try to SS it next time it happens. Great site though. |
Yes, I do experience that, once in a while. It has something to do with caching I suppose. You can just refresh the page and it should fix itself.
I will still look for a solution for it though. Thanks! |
How bout a 2006 OS, for the upcoming OS due next year? I know the testing builds are already using 2005...
|
2006!? The forum has been created. :D
|
Still a while away, but hey...

It is quite possible the update could be done by the end user using the DKE-2 USB Cable. This would, by far, be the best approach to it in my opinion.
As far as charging for the upgrade, who knows. We can only hope it will be free. *crosses fingers* |
Hey, Reggie!
This is so dumb, that every day we post a ton of material on the Nokia 770 and no one sees it at Planet.Maemo. Would you be averse to having TWO forums that duplicate each other? One is just as it is, Mike's ersatz 770 blog. The other is the Planet Maemo feed forum (which you would have to create). I/you/Mike/someone would just simply copy each entry as it's posted in the ersatz blog and put it into the feed forum as a new thread. Mike's ersatz blog reads like a regular blog, streaming continuously. The feed forum sends little chunks to the aggregator. Everyone wins. What do you think? -- Roger |
Actually I created a work around to stream any thread to RSS format. For Mike's (et al) blog, you can check out: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...2&postlen=full
There is still a small problem of properly converting the blog to html and adding carriage returns to each line but it somehow works. One thing I can suggest is, I can tweak the program to just display what is inside a bbcode tag like [intro] or something. What do you think Roger? |
I didn't know about this.
I just subscribed to this feed and it shows up in my RSS reader (actually My Yahoo). Hooray! (or: ya-hoo!) I mean, if it works, it works. I'm gonna write those Planet.Maemo guys now. BTW, not clear what the problem is you describe with the HTML. Maybe over time this and your comment about Intro will become clear. Right now, it looks good to me. -- Roger |
Yes, it should work, but what I don't like about it is, it renders the entry in one long line, with no line breaks. Does yahoo show it dorrectly?
|
Oh, now I get what you mean about the carriage returns. It doesn't really matter with the RSS feed, but . . .
Anyway, Planet.Maemo picks up your front page in its entirety. So until you have things fully worked out, I'm not averse to doing a copy to a forum, if the same thing applied. But, as you note, you can't really expect people to read it as one long string of characters. And I think at Planet.Maemo, they're running the full thing. (Of course, not all planets do that. Planet.XMLhack runs about 150 words and then ... so if the item is longer, the reader has to go to the site. Not a bad thing, really.) Still thinking about to implement an intro tag . . . -- Roger |
I'm trying to tweak the code to show each entry correctly in Planet Maemo. Give me a few minutes.
Thanks. |
Ok Roger, here's a better feed that will look better from Planet Maemo:
http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...en=full&qty=15 You can submit this link instead. Thanks. |
OK, have done so.
Maybe I'll try putting in titles when I click on Reply to Thread. Thanks for working this out, Reggie. |
Yes, I'm putting the time by default if post has no titile.
Btw, my RSS reader (Google Desktop's Sidebar) correctly parses the post, even if it looks like it doesn't have line breaks. Thanks. |
Image question
Reggie,
As you can see, I put two pix in the most recent post. I didn't know how to handle this, so I uploaded them to a site where I have ftp access, then put in a url in the post. Is there a way to upload any images to this site instead? Roger |
Roger,
The forums let you actually attach files but they will appear as thumbnails at the end of the post. I will try to set you up something so you can upload images directly to the server. Thanks. |
