possible two tmobile sim cards with one phone number to keep from selling my n900?
I like the n900 but what bothers me is the heavyness and bulk feeling of it, I have tmobile and was thinking if theres a way to have two sim cards with same phone number so then I can use one in n900 and then get another light smaller phone when I dotn need the bells and whisltes sometimes of the n900?

no you cannot legally.it is against the law as per FCC

Re: possible two tmobile sim cards with one phone number to keep from selling my n900?
you shouldn't have bought it if it's 'bulky' and has 'bells and whistles' you don't use all the time. sometimes it's best to just buy a cheaper phone with less functions.

Ask your operator. Where I live (Germany) most operators will happily sell you a second card with the same number. You can only use one at a time, though.

It is technically possible and there are carriers in some countries that support it and even market it as a feature. (e.g. "Twin" from Etisalat in UAE)
However, if it is considered illegal by the FCC as somedude pointed out then I'm afraid you're SOL. |

SkypeIn ;) (http://www.skype.com/allfeatures/onlinenumber/)
This is what I use to have multiple international numbers going to my cell phone. Regardless of which country I'm in or SIM I use. It also saves me lots of $$ using SkypeOut over WiFi at home or 3G (pre-paid) when out and about. |

You can also receive calls on your computer (ie. with a headset) if you are logged into that skype account. In Australia, you can transfer your number from one carrier to another... not sure if this applies to your account or not, but it may be worth finding out if you can transfer your old number to skype perhaps ?? If your old phone/SIM supports call forwarding, this may be another option - may cost you though. |
Re: possible two tmobile sim cards with one phone number to keep from selling my n900?
Technicly it's possible and part of GSM standard.
At least in Finland all netwokr providers support it and you can have multisim sharing with up to 5 different SIM cards. Your provider will propably charge something extra per SIM card. |

So is it my sim card or my account plan that has to have call forwarding? Ok if i create a skype number its going to be a random number notht e same phone number i currently have right? |

I think that the forwarding is set in your account at the carrier level (like voice mail). I'm sure someone more knowledgeable can verify or dispute this. SkypeIn gives you a number that ppl can use to call your Skype account. You chose from a list of numbers for a given area code. Skype also provides call forwarding. Not sure if this would apply to your situation, but when I am in Australia, my (Australian and US) SkypeIn numbers forward to my AU number. When in the US, they forward to my US (T-Mobile) number. I just update the forwarding settings before I hop on the plane and switch SIMS on arrival. |

What I want is have one phone off but a sim card still in there then use another phone with another sim card with same old phone number I been using, so this goes back to my original post hehehe. I'll just call usa tmobile and see if they have multi sim . |
Re: possible two tmobile sim cards with one phone number to keep from selling my n900?
I also use second SIM (service called twinsim here). one in N900 and second in N5210.
when 5210 is switched on then it rings first (10sec) and then call redirects to N900. when 5210 is off then call goes straight to N900. second SIM has "hidden" phone number. SMS is not redirected so when i want to send sms to my second phone then i must use that "hidden" number. |

Dual SIMs with the same number is probably your best option. |
Re: possible two tmobile sim cards with one phone number to keep from selling my n900?
Hi,
Using 2 sim cards with one number here in Holland (T-Mobile). N900 and N82, just in case my N900 battery is drained or when going to places I do not want/need an N900. I can, however, only us one at a time. :) Michel |
Re: possible two tmobile sim cards with one phone number to keep from selling my n900?
When I got my n900, I subscribed to a second account with new phone number for it and kept the old phone number with my old (very small) phone.
One reason was that the 2nd account with 3.5 Mbps flat rate data transfer was cheaper than just 1 Mbps flat rate data added to the old account. Additional benefit is that I do not need to carry n900 everywhere. I mostly use it as a computer (like mini laptop). |
