My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
I drop my N900 onto a hardwood floor two times couples of weeks.ago.. and it survived..... and then I drop my N900 again over the weekend onto the concrete floor from table level *no scratches" Wow!. only the slideout keyboard was slide out and the screen lid. Phew!!! again survived.
... and then when i climb into my house attic to do some cleanup work..., and lost it there..and later found it back with no scratches too but covered with dust..... amazing.... it survived. :D :D :D |

Sounds like you need to put your N900 on a lanyard and hang it around your neck :)

Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
I've dropped mine on concrete sidewalks a couple times, back cover didn't even pop off. All I've managed to do is scuff it up a bit. (Yes I felt very bad.) :)

Ha! if this is my other phone, it is already fall into pieces.

Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
Interesting.
I for one think the N900 is not as sturdy as my old N800. My issue was specifically the stand that is around the camera lens. I was listening to a podcast with my N900 on a stool (approximately 50 cm high) with the stand propping up the N900. My N900 fell the distance onto a tiled floor. The case cracked at the point where the pins were set into the cover. Very disappointing. This definitely would not happen on a N800 or N810. The stand on the old internet tablets were built like tanks. |

@Lark
That is my one biggest let down for the '900 and that is the teeny weeny kick stand... LOL! it is joke but anyway...have to learn to love it. |

Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
Dropped mine onto a kitchen tile, ended up with tiny scuff at the back. I dont believe other smartphones would have had a chance suriving what I have put N900 and 5800XM through. This is a key reaon why I will stick with Nokia.

Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
Last week, I accidentally dropped my n900 onto my concrete driveway and ran it over with my truck. I quickly picked it up and drove through a tornado, whilst gun fighting terrorists (the n900 makes a pretty decent bullet shield). After the terrorists captured me, I escaped by dropping my phone in a shark infested tank. In one last ditch effort, the terrorists nuked the prison I was held in. My n900 proved to be too durable for the nuclear explosion and resulting radiation.
Oh yeah, my friends and I use it as a football. |
Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
Dropped mine 6 times now, the frame around the screen acts as a buffer and has protected the phone in every drop (From mass heights and on concrete floors.) I really am happy how well built nokias are.

Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
A few years ago I dropped my N70 down a toilet in Kenya. I dried it out in the sun that day (had to watch out for the thieving monkeys and baboons) and although it lost a couple of pixels it worked fine.
I never got rid of the smell, though. The next day I dropped it out on Safari. The day after we retrieved it even though it was 3' away from elephant dung and lion footprints... and that's why I keep buying Nokia! |
Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
I have accidently dropped my N900 on tiled floor with keyboard open, from my truck on a bad terrain while taking a pic, and also momentary drop in water. Except few scratches on the frame it has survived all of these abuses. Thanks Nokia for making it so durable!! i-phone would sure be history should it fall on tiled floor even from small heights...

Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
I "crashed" today on my E-moped in a turn on the icy roads, pretty sure i landed on the phone in my pocket... nothing to see..... :)
and if i can ask a question: Does screen protector work, E.G can the touch screen still be used like normal, no loss of precision or anything? im thinking about getting one and a new touch screen since i have 2 very small scratches.... |
Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
Dropped mine a couple of times. Well, once was when it was charging on my desk at work. My colleague who sits at the desk opposite is always shoving his feet through a gap in the partition, always gets them tangled in the wires of my PC and then has a job to get free. I'm always giving him a beasting over it. One day he hooks the charger lead to my 900 and drags it onto the floor. My first thought was 'Sh*t that's the EMMC knocked off the board and the USB connector adrift'.
When I picked it up off the floor I noticed it was OK (screen and USB port-wise) so I switched it off and held it above the partition so he could see it and said "Nice going Batman". He was like  *fart... fart* "Sorry, it was an accident". and was ready to buy me a new one. Rather stupidly I fessed up that it was OK later. :o |

Mine too has fallen down a couple of time. The first fall was on a concrete road while i was texting a friend of mine just pushed me and the phone slipped from my hand from chest level to the concrete road.
I was shocked..but when i picked up the phone it just had a small scratch near the slider and everything was still working great.Next i dropped it from my bed while it was charging. This bad boy is surely build like a tank.. |
Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
N900: strong like a house brick, and the size/ weight of one.
:D |
Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
I can recommend the clarivue screen protectors.
11 USD for 2, these only have a hole for the speaker so your proximity sensor and front camera are protected too. No loss of sensitivity, if anything it's made the screen more rigid to. |
Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
Now, you guys are fully aware that your comments here could void any remaining warranty life on your N900 right? :p

Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
Nokia 501 was a real tank.
I dropped that off the 3rd floor of a block of flats, all it did was cracked the facia (replaceable for less that £5). I drop kicked it over some rugby posts, all that happened is it stuck in the mud by the aerial. Loved that phone, shame it was actually a brick. |
Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
There is another thread where the guy tells how his was ejected from the car during a multirollover car crash and survived, there a few other tough N900 stories in that thread as well.

Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
I'm impressed as far as the phone itself goes - The innards are very pretty, and look very well designed and indestructible.
The screen on the other hand... Not -quite- so good. My n900's survived dropping a number of times, banging around, being sat on etc... However, about three weeks ago, I managed to crack the screen: I had on a pair of jeans with tighter-than-usual front pockets, and in a hurry to leave my house, I jammed my n900 inside it's fabric case, and that inside my pocket. When I pulled it out a couple of hours later, it had a crack on it(touchscreen was fine, though). I'm guessing one of the other things in my fabric case's other pocket managed to get jammed into the screen - I had a USB cable, spare battery, and a bit of gum in there. Anyway, it worked for two weeks with the screen slowly failing before it finally died suddenly one day(~50 working pixels, rest black), and now I'm waiting for a replacement I got off ebay for $50. |
Re: My Nokia N900 really built tough!!! Impressive.
hmmm, looks like the n900 can withstand a lot of things.......
