Google navigation on Maemo?
|
Re: Google navigation on Maemo?
Maemo itself? Never, the userbase is to small for Google.
For Maemo/Meego/Symbian using QT compatibility? Much more likely. Google builds one app and gets to put it on all those platforms. |

Re: Google navigation on Maemo?
It's in Google's best interest to get people to use their products regardless of whether they run Android or not. Remember that Google makes money by indexing everything about a user and selling that info o capability to companies. If Google can get access to people using symbian maemo or meego easily they would do it. They already do it on blackberries.
Now whether it comes to Apple, well the two companies are feuding (Apple suing HTC) (Apple accusing Google of stealing iPhone ideas for Android) (Apple calling Google's app store a porn store). So whether Google will work with Apple, well who knows. |

Re: Google navigation on Maemo?
But would googles navigation really be that big difference compared to Maemos regular Ovi Maps? I mean it still would require Internet connection for wayfinding and maps that are outside your route. The only big difference would be turn-by-turn voice navigation.

They are night and day. Granted, the offline maps is nice, but OVI maps is pretty limited and far from cleanly implemented. Google navigation is very clean, polished, and functional; it is just limited by the offline capability. Though, it should be noted that OVI maps can't route offline (I think... someone can correct me. The software is far to painful and limited to use at this point. High hopes for the future?) |

And I think that Ovi Maps can route offline if you just select your destination from the map manually instead of using the search function. |
