By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
Yeah but it won't be a Nokia!
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
no. wouldnot
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
Nope, keeping my N900 for 2-3 years. Maybe 4 depending on how far the hardware advances by then.
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
Upgrading will be in 2012...
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
Nope, I'm not really looking forward to MeeGo actually.
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
N900 will get the same Qt apps as Symbian and MeeGo so there's no need to upgrade to a new device this year.
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
Most probably yes... But it could be just a spare N900 :-)
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
My definite next upgrade would be iPhone 4...
The first MeeGo phone will be out by end of this year\early next year, innit? I don't think I'll be in the market for another upgrade til next summer. Plus, I'm still having 'trauma' of N900's non support... so I won't be quickly jumping headfirst to MeeGo's ecosystem. |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
being that i just dropped mine in a river while panning for gold...i would have to say "definitely". i wonder if Nokia warranties that shlt...
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
it depends what kind of phone is offered. my n900 has set the bar pretty high....

Of course not! what am I,a millionaire?!
As usual,will replace it(most likely...) in about 2.5-3yrs |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
No.
I'm sticking with Nokia through this N900 thang cause their hardware has been good to me in the past and they have supported old models with FW updates. That's why I buy Nokia. Despite the general FUD around N900 my confidence in Maemo and faith in Nokia remains; these are still early days. Nokias get better with a few miles on the clock, and I invested heavily in N900 with Maemo. I usually buy below the top end 'cause that's where the true value for money lies, so I need to see a return on this investment first. Because technology is moving so fast now customers want everything NOW! and loyalty goes out the window as a result. If that continues manufacturers will increasingly respond by producing models with short lifespans and I don't want that. I enjoy building a relationship with my mobiles and hope to keep them for a couple of years or so. |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
Nope not me, im sticking to my n900 for a good year or two
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
not a phine. but nokia´s table!!!
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
It seems to me, by the time Maemo5 PR1.2 is released, my phone will already be 3-4 years old.... therefore I might get a new one
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
I have to admit, I will probably go for whatever next beefy phone that allows me to install 3rd party apps under my own discretion, and not governed by some tyrannical central power.
Looks like I'll probably not be going the Apple route, but with heavy enough specs, I may purchase from any company. I like to think of myself as a fan of technology :D |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
no i will not switch out my N900 with anything else
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
I have no idea. But then, I often don't know what I shall be doing next week. I'll think about that when I get there. Sufficient unto the day is the software thereof.

Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
gotta get me the new iphone this summer, and gotta get me nokia's response to it later in the year!
i try to get 6-12 months from a device, then it goes in its box on the shelf with the rest of the collection |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
Probably a windows 7 phone / android
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
I usually use a phone per year if something significantly better appears.
E71 was the first phone I didn't have urge to upgrade with until N900. And N900 is the second one... then I either give or sell old devices with nominal price to my siblings. |

Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
Yes i will, but it will be replacing my Omnia HD. :)
N8 or something from Samsung and then i will be replacing N900 whenever first Harmattan/MeeGo device comes out. Can't wait for that as i have been really waiting for Harmattan since it was announced. |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
If I could get a thinner qwerty slider, with 512-1024mb RAM, 128GB somekind of MicroSSD, 1-2GHz CPU, AMOLED LCD, 100% functional navigation, battarey for 2-3 days.. then yes :D:D:D
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
Most probably yes. Though I won't be using it as a phone. (I don't use the N900 as a phone, either.)
Phone-wise, the C5 is what I'd go for at the moment. The only thing it's really missing is Wifi, otherwise it's the best phone on the market by far. I'll certainly get the first Harmattan device available (plus the first 'real' MeeGo device after that) just because I'm interested in how this adventure evolves. I own all Maemo models (even though my 770 doesn't work any more :( ...) and all of them were great in their own way. I'm sure I'll enjoy whatever comes next. (I'm really sure now because I do enjoy my two N900s, even though I hated everything about the device and Maemo 5 that was available as information before I bought it. I'm confident now that whatever the Finns build, I'm gonna love it. :D ...) |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
Sure will, it will be the new MeeGo device.
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
Yep... but it will not be a MeeGo device unless they really up the ante.
For once... I'm looking at a Windows based phone. Or the iPhone 4G. But not the N910/N-whatever... |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
Wow, result can be really disheartening for Nokia for now - but they earned it.
My answer was no due to one fact: Nokia is playing fast and loose with model support. From what we know "N920" will be on hardware side only slightly upgraded N900 - and it is already dated. So next generation - "N940" will probably break all hardware compatibility. You could compare it to 770 - 800 or 810 - 900 change. And we all know how it ended... Theoretically Qt could take care of that but signals are still mixed. |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
:)I'll stick to my N900 for a while longer.
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?

I'm sure a significant amount can be swayed by a very favorable announcement (ie: "The new Nokia device will triple boot S^3, MeeGo and Android!") and all the past mistakes will be forgiven. |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
Yep, I will get the first Harmattan device. I decided to skip N900/M5 and stick with my trusty E71 until Harmattan comes out. I originally hoped it would be THE release to set a solid base for the future but the MeeGo affair obviously disrupted that a bit. I hope Nokia manages the transition smoothly, but I'm not holding my breath TBH. I'm itching to replace my current phone though and can't wait to test Harmattan out. I think both the HW and the SW will be a nice improvement over the N900.

Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
A non-stable, non-feature full version of MeeGo is already out, so the question is a bit inaccurate.
I'm only on a one year contract, and my phones usually only survive a couple of years. So before a stable, feature full version of MeeGo is out, I'll had to get a new phone. Or two. I think, by the time Nokia has moved their MeeGo products from the "let's rearplug the naive, rich early adaptors some more" phase, Android 7.2 is out. By that time, iPple may even have turned away from evil. |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
It's difficult - do you want to be another earlier adopter or have to get locked in to being apple's ***** with the ever so passe iphone (and it is).
I'm in 2 minds about android as middle ground - will be interesting to see how this platform develops. I guess it really comes down to what you use your phone for - if normal smartphone functionality, battery life, reliability and support are priorities are important then the iphone is probably top. if you're more of a power user then I'd say something like the new N900 with meego would certainly be the choice. horses...for...courses. |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
I'll keep the N900 for 2-3 years. If I break it before then I'd just get another. Otherwise only absolute killer hardware running MeeGo or a very similar 'full' linux OS would get it out of my hands any sooner.
For various reasons I have zero interest in anything running WinPhone 7, Android, WebOS, Symbian etc. Too spoiled by Maemo/MeeGo now. I really think it has a great future and I'm pretty much committed to staying with it. So the OS will be the #1 consideration for me in picking my next phone. But I don't much care who makes the hardware as long as it has the basic features I want. |

Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
I just spent a ton of cash on the N900.. I'll be keeping it for quite some time.
However, I'll likely be one of the ones running the Dev MeeGo on their N900 once the very basics are there (a GUI, and working Phone). |
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
still see no reason for getting a new device
|
Re: By the time MeeGo is released, will you buy a new phone?
I'm impatient and would love a MeeGo phone and tablet now, just like the iPhone and iPad but i no that the two MeeGo devices will work together better than what the iPhone and iPad does now.
