[Closed - Leaked PR1.2] Info and Discussion thread

The thread PR1.2 is RELEASED!! is getting flooded by reports of what works and what does not. Lets keep this one for us who have already flashed the device and trying out the new features.

What works and what does not?

I can confirm that SIXAXIS daemon works very well. No missing dependencies. Someone go on...

Re: What works better in the PR1.2

At the moment I am performing a browsermark test to see if the browser (default) has gotten any faster.

Open GL ES games like GLTron will report that the GL ES dependency is gone.

I think it's just updated.

It is confirmed:

N900 with 600MHz processor BEFORE the update PR1.2
Browsermark result: 8687
AFTER the update: 10141

That is one badass speedup...

Re: What works better in the PR1.2

You guys can test the speed out too...

Overclocking works, just install the kernel-power packages again!

I'm going to test TV out now.

Now you are at it, why don't you try reflashing? :p

:(

Will do that later - after I feel less cheated that I have to re-install all my apps again.

Then again, I was sort of asking for it. It's an RC, after all. :D

Major speedup for Fennec after PR1.2

Using a browsermark-test (bit.ly/brmark) I found out the following: PR1.2 speeds up the browser about 17%. Results:

Before the update 600MHz: 8687 points
Before the update 800MHz: 11453 points

After the PR1.2 update 600MHz: 10141 points

I havent overclocked yet, someone could send the result for PR1.2 900MHz...

For comparison here are the average results...

iPhone 3GS: 26897 points

Nexus One: 23726 points

Droid: 14918 points

N900: 8646 points

Tear (the webkit browser) not working. Crashes the interface after launched but the interface comes back in a couple of seconds...

I got 19057 points with MicroB (OC 900)

Maps now works for the first time indoors and it locked in no more than 3 seconds indoors !!! MUCH more responsive than before. Also we got a new version that looks like V3 with more features.

Re: What works better in the PR1.2

The HTML5 test is meant to test the capabilities of the browser, not the speed. Browsermark mainly tests the speed and the result varies according to the clock speed.

HTML5 test for Fennec: 110/160

In comparison: Desktop Chrome got 118/160
Desktop Firefox got 101/160

Re: What works better in the PR1.2

HTML5 for MicroB : 110/160
HTML5 for Minefield 3.7a5pre : 103/110

Re: Major speedup for Fennec after PR1.2

Excellent. On par with the webkit-based browsers that was a very good result...

I have noticed that the TV-out has had a little less lag than before. There had been a slight delay but I canīt see any delay anymore...

did format the device make it to pr1.2??

ie a setting that lets you format the device instead of having to flash the emmc and the firmware

I did not really get that but I will try to answer...

I am no expert in these things but PR1.2 is a big update which always requires an external device with the flashing. Regular changes in the kernel can be made "inside" the device but not this one... There was no need for formatting as flashing does some of the "cleaning up" for you.

Someone else who knows better can give a better answer...

Does it have the voice navigation now?

will pr1.2 require the device to be flashed once it gets a real release?

The OVI-navigation has a new look and is a lot faster (both the interface and tracking). There is no voice-navigation as far as I know...

If it doesn't have voice navigation, does it have turn-by-turn navigation at least?

It already (Pre PR 1.2) has turn by turn?

Re: What works better in the PR1.2

Please everyone stop referring to this as PR1.2. This is NOT PR1.2 but a release candidate or testing build that has been leaked. It may have bugs not in the final PR1.2 build.

There is no way you can know this. I'm betting nokia isn't going to put a lot of effort into ensuring leaked builds for testing work with ota updates. And there may be bugs in the build that prevents updates. It may turn out that it works, but there is no way you can be certain until the real PR1.2 is actually out and you can test updating to it.

Anyone using this leaked build has to accept the risk that they will have to do a full flash once PR1.2 is out, and that backups made using this FW may not restore properly once the phone is updated to PR1.2. If you can live with that then by all means play with the new toy, but don't give other users guarantees that you can't know to be correct.

It shows me where I am and where I am supposed to be. But it doesn't show something like "Turn right now" and it doesn't calculate a new route when I drive somewhere else.

Aranel 2010-05-02 12:16

Re: What works better in the PR1.2

Oops, I didn't say "devices with leaked firmware will get newer releases" as you already said there's no way for me to know this. I just said PR1.2 (the real one, from Nokia) will not require your PR1.1.1 device to be flashed. Nokia always supplies OTA upgrades for it.

Off-topic: I think there's a high upgrade possibility for leaked PR1.2 to real PR1.2 even if Nokia does not support it, you can still get packages manually. (and maybe it will work, maybe it won't. who knows..)
