Speculation about PR1.2

So does anyone have any idea when the real PR1.2 is going to be released? Post semiserious ideas here.

I myself would hope that it will be released soon. But if not, why not?

Re: Speculation about PR1.2

There were previous Rumours that it could be released today but obviously they have proved to be false.
Realistically I'm expecting it in the next week or two due to the RC being over a month old and the release of the Chinese PR1.2.

Time for another merge! :)

Re: Speculation about PR1.2

It wouldn't be appropriate to merge this thread with the one about Laughingstok, because this isn't about him, so where would they merge it?

Does anyone think they will delay PR1.2 to "punish" people for having downloaded the outlaw update?

This is not off topic, either. It is perfectly on topic. Of course, moderators get to follow their whims wherever they like, so you never know.

It will be very interesting to compare the outlaw PR1.2 with the real PR1.2. That link to the review of the outlaw version, posted above, is quite interesting.

Your video has like 13000 hits so far. Nice work.

Re: Speculation about PR1.2

Does anyone not like or not want to install PR1.2 based on what they have heard about the outlaw version? It seems to me to be pretty solid, and I will install the official version as soon as it is available. I haven't seen any significant drawbacks to the outlaw version except (1) it is an outlaw version, (2) it might be a bit outdated, and (3) it is difficult to go back if you don't like the outlaw version. I didn't install it myself, though I did download it.

I'm looking forward to it. It does sound quite nice; and has some nifty things I'd like such as the ability to rearrange my menu.

TBH though: I'm anxiously awaiting the MeeGo that I thought was supposed to be released this month that includes a UI.

If MeeGo beats PR1.2 I may never get to use it.

Why are you so insecure that you need the advice of others to make a decision for yourself?

If you want to install the damn thing, install the damn thing. If not, then don't. You're obviously aware of the risks involved, and if you think the benefits will outweigh any possible consequences, then you've made up your mind.

Interesting idea; I think the uproar would be too much. People would ask why they should pay to get their phone to work properly.

I wouldn't say that, because my N900 works superbly already. Maybe I would pay for an update.

In general, I try to fund improvements in the N900 even though I don't have much money. I bought that wallpaper program, called Prism, I think, I bought the great stand made by Fake, even though I really don't use it almost at all. When Lcuk had a sort of fund drive, I donated some money.

I mean, anyone who has paid well over $400 for a phone should consider kicking in a few extra bucks to encourage the great community here -- and the greatest part of the community, IMHO, is not the OFFICIAL community, but the independent people who just start doing great things on their own.

Excellent.

I think it's high time we start a thread to collect and showcase all the analogies used in tmo.

Plenty of gems to be found.

Re: Speculation about PR1.2

So, I wonder if this big outlaw release shook things up at Nokia at all? Did someone really get fired? Is Nokia going to respond in any way we can detect? When will PR1.2 actually get released?

Don't they realize that what happened was more or less inevitable? The term is "pent-up demand," in economics. When pent-up demand gets high enough, alternative products become more attractive. Even risky, pirated products.

Ha you might like to know that the latest NSU is reporting the leaked FW as this....

Your device already has the latest SUPPORTED software NO update is needed.

and the FW version being reported on the NSU is 10.2010.12-9

HA HA HA.

Re: Speculation about PR1.2

Ironicaly, I wonder if they have to delay it EVEN further, because of all the people installing the leaked firmware, now they need to check that all these people are going to be able to update to the real deal??

fatalsaint 2010-05-04 19:10

Re: Speculation about PR1.2

As far as I'm concerned the stance Nokia should take with that is:

it's your own damn fault; upgrading from PR1.1.1 works fine.

Re: Speculation about PR1.2

I just want everyone to know so they can stop panicking after flashing it... is that a crime huh !.
Me and Josh was doing the flashing more or less at the same time so THATS why ok !

Re: Speculation about PR1.2

I think that the defects reported in the outlaw software could have happened in the real release. How many times have I seen the topic, "since I installed the new firmware release, I am in a reboot loop!" Oh, dozens.

Yet most people didn't jump in and say "ha ha, you deserved it, you never should have installed the official release!" But with the outlaw release they did.

I have installed so many beta copies of stuff over the years that I don't pay much attention to warnings. I think probably thousands. I have wrecked my setup a few times, had to start over from scratch, but big deal! This particular outlaw update I've avoided so far, mainly because I'm expecting the real version to arrive soon.

Well, if their QA people aren't looking at the problem reports from the outlaw version, they are idiots. I mean, free beta testing and all that. So it could cause a delay, because things that should be fixed are being fixed now, but if the outlaw version hadn't been released, they would not have realized how serious some problems could be.

The main problem with beta testing is that most beta testers are well versed in computers and testing, but when a software version hits real users, an entirely different dynamic takes over -- then you find out what happens when naive users try to do what you thought was easy and foolproof. As the funny cliche goes, anyone who thinks something is foolproof just doesn't have enough respect for the ingenuity of fools.
