I found it little hard to press keys and even harder to use switches to control vibrato, organ etc.

Maybe little less of authenticity would be good for usability? I'm talking about larger keys.

Good work though. Very nice little app to play with.

Cheers, I debated this in designing it, and decided that the app should be stylus friendly rather than finger friendly as it was an emulation :D

however I'm now thinking about a piano type application with multiple voices, which would have big fat keys .

Please vote as on the above link as we need to move it into extras.

Love it. Really good and bringing back lots of memories.

Couple of minor points:-
1. When starting, it is playing a note, even with no keys touched.
2. When changing the volume it plays a note, but this may be by design?
3. Cannot have a vibrato organ?

Like the idea of a piano app too!

1. I thought I had killed that bug:confused:, problem with Qt events. only seems to do it intermittently. Will look at it some more
2. Yes by design so you know how loud it is.
3. Vibro organ is possible, if someone can find me some sound samples. As you guessed I disabled it.

This is great! and the best part is that we can change the samples!....wow.....it can become a drum machine or a guitar or any instrument we want!

Oh dear!
This is really starting to become one of those apps that you start playing with for a few seconds and find yourself coming up with a little riff and realise you have spent a few minutes tinkering instead of working.

I love the new drum samples and especially the one with a little melody in there. I found myself coming up with another little melody over the top of it and just wished there was a way to have it record over the top in a sequencer fashion. (Probably too ambitious I know - but this could become a seriously infectious app if it had the ability to lay tracks down).

MikeC, I can get you sound samples if you want strings, bass lines, etc.

has anyone got this working ok with the unofficial PR1.2 firmware
because when i load it up it closes straight away :( it worked fine before with the older version.

Yes please. I'm not a musician so willing to take all thats given. The normal stylophone samples seem to click a bit and also I need vibrato versions of the organ, or indeed the organ sounds as I'm not that happy with the ones I made.

Just installed and works fine, will test it out more tonight.

One question. I put the icon on my desktop and its just blue icon, is it possible to make some image icon ? it would be really cool.

icon is there, tracker is a bit slow, or you can reboot to force tracker to reload.

Do you by any chance have the PR1.2 RC ? Try as root from the console:

apt-get install sip4 python2.5-sip4

If only the instrument playing that melody would be in tune with the Stylophone samples ;)

I guess a little pitch shifting of the drum+melody samples could fix that...

Just posted up a new version 0.7 that fixes issue with pressing the same key twice very quickly. Now responds nicley, as it was previously interprting these as double click events so ignored.:rolleyes:

The app needs to be pushed into extras for the the masses so please vote here.

When I try to install Maelophone, it lists these problems:

Application packages missing: libqt4-core (>= 4.6.2~git20100224-0maemo1+0m5)
libqtgui4 | libqt4-gui (>= 4.6)
libqt4-core (>= 4.6.2~git20100224-0maemo1+0m5)

How do I fix it?

are you running the pr1.2?

if not it looks like your device is looking for the latest qt4.6 stuff.
try and download the the qt 4.6 demos, which will pull in the latest qt 4.6 with it and try it again

This is a really nice app. I do have a few suggestions though to make it really shine. It would be kinda nice to be able to play more than a single octave, and other instument voices would really add to the repertoire of the app.

Touchscreen clicks
 

Thank you mikec for this very cool emulation and Ministeri for the fantastic graphics.

I have touchscreen clicks enabled on my N900 and find that although in the earlier version the clicks were not present when using Maelophone, in the latest update they are. The clicks briefly interrupt/delay the sample playback whenever I touch the stylus to a key.

Can the touchscreen clicks be disabled while Maelophone is the active application?

sadly its not the touch screen, its to do with the samples I have which are not the greatest quality. You will notice that the organ sounds are less "clicky". The sounds are replaceable and live in /opt/maelophone/stylo_smpl. you can reduce the click with the decay setting.

If anyone can produce better samples for me I can incorporate into next release.

I've just released maesynth, which you will hear has little or no clicks cause the piano samples I got are a lot nicer.

Thanks for that Mike, but I just disabled the touchscreen 'click' sounds in my phone settings and it's miles better. I can't really hear much of a problem with the samples when screen clicks are disabled, but I'm not uber-fussy anyway.

Is there a way that we can have the screen click normally enabled in the system, but then have Maelophone temporarily disable clicks when it's running? Perhaps not many users have screen clicks enabled so this isn't an issue for most?

That should be possible.
I'll add it to feature request for next release. Have you voted to get this out into extras, I dont want to make another release until this version is out as we end up going through the whole testing cycle again.
