[Request] N900 Status bar applet for switching USB connection modes....

Not too sure how feasible this is but wouldn't it be nice to be able to toggle between Mass storage, PC Suite and Charging only USB connection modes without having to disconnect then reconnect the USB cable?

Perhaps one of you programming gods can whip something up for the Status bar, or a widget for the desktop for the N900?

I second this request; I change a lot between PC suite for syncronizing and Mass storage to access my memory card; it would be nice to be able to tap on the screen to change the mode.

Can you find where is the source for the .so module which is used by the status bar to display USB mode? Minor change in the code would solve this problem.

Yes please. A toggle between Mass storage & PC Suite would be fantastic.

That is a really good idea. I wonder if there a dbus function for this.

toggle between mass storage and suite mode (does this even work for anyone? lol) would be cool. but going back to charging mode, dont we have to eject the device from the computer before we can do that?

Mass Storage scripts:
/usr/sbin/osso-usb-mass-storage-disable.sh
/usr/sbin/osso-usb-mass-storage-enable.sh
/usr/sbin/osso-usb-mass-storage-is-used.sh
PC Suite scripts:
/usr/sbin/pcsuite-disable.sh
/usr/sbin/pcsuite-enable.sh

Use lsmod to check status:
g_file_storage.ko for mass storage
g_nokia.ko for PC Suite mode

Doesn't the pc connectivity manager from the repos already do that?

Mad Developer lets you do this in a round about way. I DON'T know if PC Connectivity Manager package lets you do this, but if it does, cool. Wouldn't surprise me if it did.

But I agree, a status menu applet would be lovely - all you have to do it replace the existing one with one that uses the scripts Mohammad just posted to switch the USB modules. In fact, I think that's better than adding another one along with the already existing one. Just create a modified version of the current one, and have it replace that one.

The pc connectivity manager does replace the existing status applet with a button that allows you to select the mode, but its buggy 'coz it doesn't work for me every time.
The code is open maybe someone else could improve it,hasn't been updated in a long time.
