Chaos Strikes Back / Dungeon Master on N800?
 

Is it possible to install Chaos Strikes Back on the N800 or is there a port for it? I would so love to play this old gem again!

Yes, I saw that one, which gave me the idea that there could be a port for the N800 too. For the 2006 version won't install here :(

I don't have an N800 yet; I was just waiting for the Navigation Kit for it to be released, so I can buy both together.

As soon as I do, I'll sort the N800 port.

Any clues as to why it won't install?

... is there a possibility that the main game installs, but the menu shortcuts don't? In which case you could run the game up from the command line.

Hi Irwin,

Another user reported to me that csb does install, but there's a problem with the menu, and he is able to run from the command line; this is the command line run version:

Start an xterm and

/usr/games/chaos-strikes-back

- for that you need the main game system and the chaosstrikes back data file

I still haven't got an N800, just waiting for the navigation kit to come out!

I have Dungeon Master running fine from the Extras menu on my N800 (latest firmware). The icon only appeared after installing the Dungeon Master data files from Maemo Garage.

Really impressed with it so far :)

I dont have anythink from chaos strikes back under the usr/games folder. i dont know, where the files are on my n800. i take a look, but i cant find any files from csb. Now i deinstall and install again, but the same mistake.

Yes don't forget you need both the emulator and the data file as well.

Right I got my N800 so created a new release candidate.

Almost working ok... here it is:

This is a combined .deb with both data files (chaos strikes back and dungeon master).

It creates two entries in the Extras menu, but sadly only the "Dungeon Master" entry starts the game. I have posted to maemo developers about this issue.

If you wish to play the "Chaos Strikes Back" version, start an xterm and type

~ $ /usr/games/chaosstrikesback

I have implemented a rudimentary full screen mode thing; doesn't work brilliantly; Fanoush, if you're reading, I just implemented your suggested pretty much verbatim. Doesn't auto centre on this version!

I have also applied to get my deb uploaded to the extras repository.

Anyhow I hope to get the remaining issues sorted but until then, at least those that want an N800 csb experience have it available!

Amazingly fast start-up time. Excellent game speed. Nice small install. I rate this a win.

That version for the 800 installed fine on my 770 (itos2006), and seems to run fine.
Chaos StrikesBack doesn't launch from the menu, as you said, but runs fine from shell.

p.s. To start Chaos, I had to type "chaos-strikes-back", so I looked at the desktop file and it had it without the "-"'s. So I edited the file and Chaos starts from the menu fine..

Hay, thanks guys for your hard work, Dungeon Master runs nicely on my N800 now :)

BTW, desiv, which file do I have to edit to get Chaos starting properly?

Also, I have one little bug report. Changing volume on the N800 while playing Dungeon Master crashes the OS, have to do a total reboot, otherwis the games run really nicely!
