Vodafone UK Mobile TV working on N900

This involves installing Hide user agent and fAPN apps.
1)Install "hide user agent" and "fAPN" apps through application manager.
2)Open fAPN app and create new APN with any name you wish(mine is Vodaone WAP) and close the app.
3) Now, go to the "Internet connections" in the settings menu and go to "connections" and select the APN, you created using fAPN app.
4) select the "edit" option and by leaving the first page unchanged select "next". add the settings as shown below
Access point name: wap.vodafone.co.uk
user name: wap
password: wap
leave that "prompt password" unchecked
5)select next and finish the settings.

6)now, go to hide user agent in the settings menu and select user agent and paste the line shown below,

Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.4; Series60/5.0 NokiaN97-1/12.0.024; Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1; en-us) AppleWebKit/525 (KHTML, like Gecko) BrowserNG/7.1.12344

This is N97's user agent string.

press "OK" and select "Set"

7) Now hit on the battery menu select the internet connection that you just created. That is it for the settings part. Now your N900 is ready to access the Vodafone live website.
8) Now, for mobile TV select the link below
http://myweb.vodafone360.com/shop/?url=/tv

9)Now, you can subscribe to the pack you want and select any channel.
All streams are rtsp links and so media player will play them automatically.

Note: This will only work through Vodafone WAP settings, that we created just now. These rtsp links are not permanent and so it is useless to bookmark them in the media-player.

Finally, sorry for my bad English
Thank you..:)

Re: Vodafone UK Mobile TV working on N900

I am sorry for you. I am able to open that link from my N900.
Solution: Download to the PC and copy in the N900 documents to install.

Re: Vodafone UK Mobile TV working on N900

Ok..I have transferred both files to N900 docs on N900 but App Manager does not recognise them (or cannot locate them when searching). If I am in File Manager and I click them I get a prompt asking which application do I want to use to open the files. I then click on Application manager but nothing else happens..thanks

It is really strange.
Try clicking these links from N900
fAPN-- http://maemo.org/downloads/product/r...et_installfile

hide UA-- http://repository.maemo.org/extras-t....3.7_armel.deb

First of all, try again after restarting the mobile.

Not tried it yet. Will let you know shortly...

Edit: Nope mate. Still same error code. Do you reckon there is some sort of block or do I need to install something else on the N900 so I can transfer Apps from my PC to the N900? I know the files are transferring ok though

The links work fine if I'm clicking on my Desk Top but not on the N900. I will try browsing with the N900 and see if I can click on your link that way. Before I just typed the link in the URL box.

1)when you click on the fAPN link, app manager will automatically starts installing the fAPN app.
2)When you click on the hide UA link, then you will get the option to save the .deb file. After saving it go through file manager and click on the file( you can see swirl icon for .deb file), which will automatically opens app manager.

Ok..I have had success with fAPN. Thanks. I have set up the WAP connection. However I am unable to find the hidden file app in settings. I clicked on the UA link and I think it downloaded but I am unable to find it in settings? Thanks

In File Manager I can see the hide UA .deb swirl. When I click on it I choose to open file with app manager but the choices are uninstall, download or update. There are no other choices?

hide UA is not auto-installable. You have to save it and then install it(by browsing through file manager).

Nothing else happening. Do I need to start Easy debian again or re-install the debian image file? The reason why I ask is that I did click on close debian a few days ago. Will that make a difference?

Zan

I am also a newbie in Linux and I too have easy debian in my mobile.
If you are able to see swirl for that hide UA file, then app. manger should start automatically(you dont have to select which application to open that file).
follow these steps now,
1)delete that file
2)click this link and save the file in any other folder.

http://repository.maemo.org/extras-t....3.7_armel.deb

3)open file manager and browse through that folder and click the .deb file(swirl icon). Now, it should start the app. manager automatically, like the way how media player starts when you click on a .mp3 file.

suresh 2010-05-08 18:04

Re: Vodafone UK Mobile TV working on N900

I think that, close debian will only close the debian chroot related to the easy debian application. So forget about it.

Re: Vodafone UK Mobile TV working on N900

you can use iphone's user agent string in 6th step for low quality streams.

Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5B108 Safari/525.20

thanks..:)

did the setup. all ok & can access the shop. couple of questions:

1. what is quality like when watching sports on the N97 agent with a good (3.5G) connection?

2. don't think I could bear to give murdoch fixed monthly cash even if quality was good - is there any PPV (pay per view, one off charge for a sports event) offered - didnMt see anything obvious?

Quality is good(if not very good) with N97 UA string.Try it yourself for once(first month free). I don't know about the PPV services. But, I think they might offer for the FIFA world cup.

Cheers..:)

Re: Vodafone UK Mobile TV working on N900

That new apn is nothing but "contract WAP" settings provided by Vodafone for WAP services. Unfortunately, Vodafone cannot send these settings automatically like they does for other mobiles.

Cheers

Hi Suresh...Have tried this but not working. I followed the link from the N900 and saved the file. I browsed using File Manager and clicked on it. I am then prompted which application to open 'hideuseragent'. I did nothing and the same page hanged with the application choices. I then tried clicking on Application Manager. All i saw was the blue screen with Uninstall, download or update. I left it like that for a while and still nothing. There must be something on your 900 that is enabling you to do what I cant.

Thanks for your help. Any further instructions or ideas?

Zan

Re: Vodafone UK Mobile TV working on N900

ok..there is an alternative to that. You have to install "Macuco"-iphone faker
You can search this app in application manager (by enabling the extras repository)
For more information about this browser, refer--http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=51487

But, the problem with this browser is the quality of the streaming links Vodafone provide for this browser's UA string(iphone's) and also media player won't start automatically. You have to right-click on the link to copy the rtsp link address and then paste it in the microB browser or kmplayer.

cheers
