Stolen N900, IMEI number
 

Hello guys, It seems I won't be seeing PR 1.2, at least not soon. I was in public transportation and took several steps to ensure my phone's safety. nevertheless, a very good pick pocket got mine from my front pants pocket. The bus was really crowded and I noticed it wasn't with me after just a single bus stop after the doors closed with the robber amongst them.

I reported the line to teh phone company, and they deactivated it. I changed all my passwords already, and was wondering about the IMEI. I aquired my phone at a Nokia store and hence my carrier doesn't have the IMEI registered.

It seems that they just started tracking stolen IMEIs this week here in Mexico, and unfortunately only the ones aquired with them. Talk about useless. So I can't issue a report to report my IMEI, at least not in Mexico. My phone was bought in the US, so maybe it can be reported elsewhere.

In any case, I felt that it was best to post the IMEI here for public records:

What do you mean "please install "I am here"? Is that a location program for the N900 like with MobileMe on the iPhone? I googled it and didnt get any hits.

:eek: It Happened to me exactly the same, it seems that you wrote my story!!! No seriously it happened exactly the same! Someone stole my n900 from the pocket of my pants! :( at Mexico's Metrobus!
I also tried to report the line but I purchased my N900 in Europe :(
Recently I bought my second N900, and im reading posts to see if imhere really works :confused:

it worked great on pr 1.1, then I went without it for pr 1.2, now in pr1.3 it seems to keep asking me to connect to the internet right before it automatically sends the email. but I might have a setting different. it's been so long.

it installled like a charm the first time, but this second time I had to install gstreamer-tools first. below is instructions on how to do that:


you need to download rootsh first.

then go to terminal and type
sudo gainroot (enter)
then
apt-get install gstreamer-tools (enter)

then it should install fine!

just WRITE DOWN ON A PIECE OF PAPER every field you fill out in iamhere , just in case you forget. otherwise you have to reflash your phone and lose everything to fix it.

I figured out the connection problem. you seed to have "connect automatically" to "any connection" (which is mentioned in the program documentation) and you always need to have "search interval" checked, and "switch to wifi when available" checked.

having just "any connection" doesnt work. you need all 3 of those.

I just installed it yesterday.

It is July 2011, my phone got recently stolen in Mexico too, but it was a Violent robbery, I need to know if I can lock my device with IMEI, it was at a time where the SMSConf was broken, like for 2 days, it gave me a reminder of a new software install, I didn't have a chance to check and config the new version, so it was deactivated at the time...

By the way, I'm posting My IMEI in here, and would keep investigating if it can be disabled, else, we're gonna be tied to Android **** for a while...

in my country you can block any phone as long as you not only have the IMEI, but also the prove that its actualy your phone (think receipts, boxes, etc.)
i don't know all the details but as far as i understand it, every phone when inserting an SIM card it not only registers the simcard but also the IMEI to the network. (althoug not sure, i have heard stories about registering IMEI number to network even without SIM card. supposedly thats why you can still make emergency calls even without sim)
anyway as for as i remember it being explaing to me by local police officer many years ago.
the IMEI block has noting to do with your phone but will put the IMEI number on a black list used by all opperators (at least in your country) maybe you guys can check you local police station for the options in you country?

of course they will still beable to sale it on ebay to fare away place or just don't care about cell network but might be worth a shot.

about you all posting your IMEI number, anyone really can use them to do something? what if some prangsters post IMEI's of others? (wouldn't surpice me if someone was posting elopp's IMEI. ;)

I can't win anything from posting a number which does not belong to me, but posting receipt and boxing won't help.

I've been trying to lock it by the IMEI, can't find receipt but have full box.
