A few problems
I have had my N900 for about 6 weeks now, all has been great so far. I am running the latest firmware from Nokia, and recently I have seen my device run slower and slower!! This morning, I had to use the power button to turn my alarm off. I pressed the Off button, which then was highlighted but the alarm still sounded. It done this for both alarms (as I need two to get up in the morning =P).
The handset now seems to be running rather slow, and I am wondered if there is anything that I can do to "clean it up" somewhat? I am going through my App Manager this second to uninstall all Apps that I don't use, which I hope will help out. Any ideas welcome though, I'm no expert that's for sure!! |
Re: A few problems
how many root space you got?which tasks are running?more info please
|
Re: A few problems
19.07 GB free on the handset.
13.90 GB free on the memory card. 1.64 GB free for installable applications. As for tasks that I am running, I always have just desktop widgets open, and the only one I have added is a Countdown timer. |
Re: A few problems
jeah looking in the options from your phone is not really usefull it shows only a few infos.do you got the extras devel kalogue installed?and when jes then download conky.its a app which shows you everythink about your device.your cpu and ram usage and how many space is in your root fs .

Re: A few problems
I will download and install Conky.. and then let you know the results. Give me 5 minutes!!

Got Conky. Thanks for the heads up on it. I have attached a screen-shot of the outcome. Wow my CPU is high!!
|
Re: A few problems
If you open Conky, does hildon-home always use 90-100% of the CPU?
|
Re: A few problems
As soon as I open Conky, it's total CPU is on less than 2%, then goes right up. hildon-home is on 94-96 at the moment.

Re: A few problems
The only added widget is one contact, and also a countdown application that only updates the time when I am on that home screen... which is rarely. I have gone through my apps list, and uninstalled a fair few applications and themes, which I never use. But I will go through and remove some more in a minute aswell.

Re: A few problems
Is there anything I can do to lower the Swap and RAM usage?
|
Re: A few problems
so after you uninstall some crap:) try this:first install rootsh from extras devel.then go to the x terminal and type ."sudo gainroot" and then "apt-get install pymaemo-optify"after that xterminal shows your install cache which is useless and you can erease so type after all "apt-get clean"or when it doesnt work"apt-get remove"try this first and then restart your phone and look with conky what your cpu usage now is

Re: A few problems
oh jes and clean your browser cache too.when it all doesnt help there is only one think left but try these methods first
|
Re: A few problems
Thanks for your help so far, it is sounding pretty good to me!! I am just gonna do these few things and see what happens!!
|
Re: A few problems
Okay, I have done all of that. I have now also removed a few more applications and it's looking pretty good so far!!
Device CPU - 7% RAM Usage - 58% Swap Usage - 6% Can only be a good thing, right? |
Re: A few problems
jes its much better.your ram usage is standard linux works a bit different then windows its always at 50 percent. when it next time slow down then repeat the whole work.and dont forget that if you install a app and then uninstall it sometimes somethink be left in your phone so be sure that you need what you install.

Re: A few problems
Ah that's all good then, glad it has sorted it out!! I will make sure I run those lines everytime I uninstall anything, that should keep on top of it!! Thanks for all your help, to everyone who has put input in!!
