[ANNOUNCE] maenotify

Hello,

maenotify is a simple app that will show you the latest missed calls/sms on the screen when it is locked, without requiring to unlock it.
As I had pre-announced it some times ago here.

The project page is here : https://garage.maemo.org/projects/maenotify

The latest version (0.3) is on extras-testing now :
http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...maenotify/0.3/

Feedbacks are welcome!

Test&Vote ;)

Best Regards,
Daniele Maio

Hmmm, my lockscreen went black i mange to get it to work once.

Edit: Locking and go to lockscreen immediately shows blackscreen but if you wait a while it shows correctly.

Cool stuff. PR1.2 will contain a "counter" on that screen with the amount of missed calls / unread SMS, but showing the contents (sender+time) on that screen is an improvement over that :)

The procedure is correct.
If your personal wallpaper is under /usr/share/theme/your_theme/backgrounds/lockslider.png then you will have no problem using maenotify.

Thanks! I wonder how this will conflict with PR 1.2 once it comes out though.

Me too... This is definitely good feature to have.

Very cool.

As you are already updating the image on this screen, any thought to including an option for displaying owner's name and phone number?

That can be doable (but if I recall correctly the phone number couldn't be obtained), but , imho, this is out of the "range" of maenotify.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] maenotify

I installed. Very nice, but half the time I click the top button and see the slider and time on a black background. with no picture or missed call info.

Good work, though. and thanks for doing it.

Currently it displays only the latest 3 missed calls/sms. I don't know what will happen when the pr1.2 will be released...we will see ;)

Re: [ANNOUNCE] maenotify

Thanks for this release.

Seem to be having an issue with the notification staying persistent even though I've cleared it.

Any hints?

Grant 2010-05-15 15:11

Re: [ANNOUNCE] maenotify

Thanks! In testing, the notifications show the first time I display the lock screen. If I let the screen go off without unlocking the phone, and then reactivate the screen, the lockscreen has no wallpaper or notifications. If I then unlock the screen, and relock it without clearing the notifications, the wallpaper and notifications show again, but only once like before. After clearing the notifications, the lockscreen was black with no wallpaper or notifications. I am on PR1.1 and using d-livil's r-style gray theme. Also, after uninstalling and rebooting, my lockscreen image now permanently shows my previous notifications. I foresee having to restore the original lockscreen image from backup, or reinstalling the theme.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] maenotify

@hawaii : the missed calls notification is somewhat persistent since there is no way to get informed when you have been checked out the missed calls.

@Grant : the images are preventively backupped but I forget to restore it when you remove the app , will fix it for the next release, sorry for the inconvenience :(

Re: [ANNOUNCE] maenotify

it would be cool if you click the missed call to call them back without unlocking the phone. it could act the same as when you get a call when its locked.

dlenoir 2010-05-15 17:37

Re: [ANNOUNCE] maenotify

Great application!

As mentionned above, the behaviour is sometimes strange (half the time, my theme is gone and the unlock screen's background is black, plus then the notification is not visible), but it delivers.

Another comment is that the notification's time seems to use Universal Time, rather than the local time. (I.e. I received a call at 7h30, but it indicates that the call came in at 11h30.) The call log, as well as Extended Call Log show the right time, as well as Linux' date function.

Thank you for this app.

D

Useful app!
But: the app is showing time in GMT+0. Independent of timezone settings.

Updated: sorry, didn't read the last post.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] maenotify

Yes I've noticed this error with the time, I'll look how to fix it.
When the screen go to lock, you'll need to wait a few seconds (take as parameter two white blinks led) and then you'll get the background and the notifications as well.

O no prob, I have backups of the themes I use. Just letting you know how it worked for me. Extras-testing :)

Ummm, no ? The screen is locked because it's in my pocket, and I don't want to make any accidental calls.

hi - great app. just what iv been looking for for some time.
is there a way i can change the FONT?

thanks

Inacurate 2010-05-17 13:59

Re: [ANNOUNCE] maenotify

It is a good app for sure, but I use "Device Lock" as I have a lot of sensitive information on my N900 and the sliding lock is of course not a security measure by any means!

So question for the developer - Any chance something like this could be done for the "Device Lock" screen - maybe including even replacing it entirely with a custom one?

Not asking for you to do something like that, just wondering about the *possibility* of it happening, since you may have run into things that may enlighten me on the subject. :)

This does give me hope though...

Re: [ANNOUNCE] maenotify

@mnaveed : adding an icon for the battery status should be doable, maybe it will appear in the next release ;)

@dbs11 : at the moment is not possible to change the Font style/size. I think I have to make a configuration gui to let users changes it...

@Inacurate : I will dig on it, I don't know at the moment how it could be implemented

Yes, this is a little bug. I have already a fix for it.

Here is the original blue theme lockslider:
http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/8...ocakslider.png

copy it to /usr/share/themes/alpha/backgrounds/lockslider.png

I think that if you uninstall the app when you have no notification, you will not have this problem.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] maenotify

using the above 'lockslider.png' and location: /usr/share/themes/alpha/backgrounds/lockslider.png, i have managed to get the original lockscreen back without the bug :-)
