Just found out today that my Sygic USA map does not included the state of Indiana...wtf? I got lost somewhere in Indiana and I pulled out Sygic for a route home then....NOTHING. Ovi maps did one good today.... I am emailing Sygic on this matter.

Maybe it's a coastal things? Maybe you buy maps for regions?
I'm not sure where Indiana is, but maybe regional maps are purchased.
I would buy Sygic if they had Australia maps.

Are we getting a decent OVI store soon that may include something good like tom tom so I can have voice nav?

That's amazing. Even in a major US city (Portland, OR), Ovi maps still tries to tell me to drive off bridges and through parking lots in its routing. Sygic works like a champ.

Too bad there's not a way to completely remove Ovi maps and replace it with something that works...

Yeah... OVI maps was the sh**t until I noticed Sygic does not have Indiana maps in there... Still prefer Sygic over OVI any time... but what is the use of Sygic when there is no Map?

Sygic froze on me a couple of times, but still the options it has keeps OVI aside.

Really? Well tell you what when Ovi Maps gets updated with voice and free turn-by turn would you still want to do that?

Ovi Maps is free and includes the whole world not just Portland lol

Its a guess but a good one ;) in PR 1.2 maps will be updated with some minor tweaks and Ovi Suite 2.2 will be out with N900 support so its only a matter of time. Moreover since Maemo/MeeGo are very much similar even if we dont get Maemo 5 Ovi maps MeeGo should include one

Yes, yes I would. What good is voice nav if the 'nav' part of that sucks horribly? My point is that Ovi has a terrible routing engine.


I really hope that Ovi maps is ditched altogether and replaced with Google maps in Meego :)

I've been using Ovi on my N95 8gb with voice and turn by turn and I never had any problems. ( I'm not comparing because they are different software) .....However for that same reason do you have any inside knowledge about terrible routing engine. because as far as I know Ovi Maps for N900 was developed from scratch :)


Dont be ridiculous , Ovi wont be ditched for Google maps, if you want Google maps switch to Android or wait maybe one day Google will develop an Maps app for MeeGo ;)

What is it actually that you guys hate about Ovi Maps?

Beyond the horrible usability, do you guys find route finding really bad in Ovi Maps, or is it simply the lack of voice guided navigation`?

I have the uia file but I believe that is for Iowa not Indiana. I believe Indiana map should be uin but it is not in there... Do you have have the uin.pak file?

I´m sorry of course it should be UIN.

just create a uin directory on your N900 and copy the file in there.

I also copied the setup file from sygic´s server to have it for reinstallation etc.

I can´t believe it´s illegal to distribute it, since you need to buy a license to use it anyway after downloading.

OVI maps is great at least here in Europe, but it's horrible for Maemo.
Google maps is not free here in Europe as Google doesn't own any maps like Nokia does as it bought Navteq years ago for 8.1 billion so OVI maps is a no brainer in Harmattan/MeeGo.

Well, it always good to have a backup gps navigation software regardless sygic or ovimap, etc. You never knows, one day you might depend on it just like what you had experience.

The file is added but still the Indiana map won't show up. I even re-run the setup. By the way, the original setup has a .deb while the one olighak uploaded is .exe. Anyway, it does not work...

How many people in Indiana know where Bratislava is?
Maybe Sygic thought it was part of Canada.

Anyway, the only direction you need in Indiana is "stay on the interstate".

I have rerun setup several times, and Indiana is there every time. For example, I can see the streets in Gary, Indiana.

There are checkboxes when you install the maps, and it is possible that you accidently unchecked the checkbox for Indiana. That would mean that no matter how many times you reinstalled the setup, Indiana would be mysteriously absent. Did you make sure the Indiana map was checked?

If you did, I'm surprised you didn't mention it -- it's something you would mention if you were checking thoroughly. You would say "and I even checked Indiana among the maps to install!"

I didn't know they made voice turn by turn for the n95, I have a N82. I wonder if they updated maps for it?

I don't remember having such options. What do I need to know to reinstall it? I added the uin.pak to the maps folder and re-run the setup but still it won't work.

Olighak, the re-installation file is a .exe file. should it not be .deb file?
