Nokia N900 vs Blackberry

hi all
I have a n900 for 6 months and to be honest about the stability of the Internet connection has been pretty bad, my operator's movistar ... Also I have a blackberry at the same operator, and the stability is quite good ....
my question is
that the stability of nokia in terms of internet is less than that of the blackberry (applications and web browsing)

Re: Nokia N900 vs Blackberry

should be noted that I have suffered with the n900 battery, the battery life is pretty bad day .. I have to be charging the phone
I'm sure many people have this problem
that nokia will fix this problem somehow? application or firmware update?

Re: Nokia N900 vs Blackberry

1st - it depends on which Blackberry you're comparing?

I would say the N900 is a better internet experience (I'm on VodafoneUK) - yes the battery drains, this less so when you're in a strong signal area than a low signal area. In honesty I've taken to using 1 battery during the day, 0700-1900 then switching to a 2nd battery in the evening (on weekends) to make sure I don't run out.

Re: Nokia N900 vs Blackberry

In terms of efficiency and effectiveness of connection utilization, BB is top notch.

They have many optimizations to lower the bandwidth usage (data compression, optimized email workflow, attachment optimization, image preview system, batch processing unimportant system messages, etc) and they provide encryption between your BB and the BIS/BES server too..

Though I don't use the same BB provider as my other devices, it's also the most stable (in terms of maintaining network connection and all services running on it) compared to my other devices (iPhone 3GS, N900).

Re: Nokia N900 vs Blackberry

I would put that squarely on your service provider. I've had a Blackberry for the last 4yrs and connectivity issues varied with OS to OS. Blackberry is constantly putting out OS upgrades and sometimes they are good with connectivity and then their are some not so good. I can say that with my N900, this device holds a 3G connection much better than my 9700 in our infamous break room at work which for some reason is the only place I do not get a decent connection. It usually drops from 3G to EDGE then to nothing at all for about 20 secs and then the signal comes back.

People?

OP
- Would you please clarify what do you mean by stability?

.edit
Is it cutting you off from internet?

what is your work routine with N900. There is n+1 threads about how to improve battery life. The rule of thumb of course is to disable all the internet widgets from your desktops and IM-accounts. And use internet Only when you are using it. Idling in IM (skype, messenger, gtalk etv) and Facebook or other widget that uses packet data drains battery in ~5-6h.

Apps sucks? You mean the official apps on phone? IMO. Yes they are not what they should be on device that has ~550€ price tag. Also Nokias inability to put up Nokia ovi store is just starting to look like joke. About apps here that are free are just wonderful.

Re: Nokia N900 vs Blackberry

well i got both a N900 and a bb 9000 and i have to say

both rocks, the bb for the true push to mail and the policy handling and controlling and tracking with a BES

and the N900 for its xterm, vpn, streaming, fb, twit and so on

so i would not compare the 2 phones as they are for 2 different markets

Re: Nokia N900 vs Blackberry

bb email really has no equal. I had instances when i owned a blackberry where my phone alerted me to an incoming email before my desktop email did. but n900 is really a totally different machine and theres really no comparrison.

Lol I agree with you. Find it amazing that Nokia marketed this as an always online device and then when we get the device we have to stay offline in order for the device to last more than 6 hours.

If you have friends that have blackberry then no device can ever come near because of BB IM. All my friends are on BB and my wife and all her friends are on BB. I am always so envious that she can chat with all her friends all day long.

Seems like such a missed opportunity for me from Nokia. Guess what phone all my friends, my wife and my wives friends all had before they got blackberry? A Nokia at one point or the other. But they all moved to BB because of the IM. Why couldn't Nokia have implemented a free IM service in all their device? Now people are leaving them to go to blackberry.

Yes if you want to use it for whole day. Now make your decision: Sell it or adapt to it and try to find solutions. Thatīs it.

.edit
I would advise not to use facebook widget and for IMs only msn (pecan).

Yes they are and they are free. You can enable those repositories and start testing and voting if you like. You have paid to Nokia for official apps and HW if you are not satisfied to those then please post to Nokia about it. This Maemo.org is just free/open source place where people like to hang out and test how to make apps to N900.

Yes itīs a bit of joke. Same thing with cheapish laptops from 3-4 years ago. You could take them with you but you always needed powercord after 2-3 hours.

But idling in msn with pecan makes my battery last for at least ~24h (this depens of course on which online connection you are using 2g/3g/wlan). I think we have here topics where people have sent their pictures of battery-eye.

But then again you can see from that post that poster says msn pecan is power sucker.

LOL! Eevry thing was going fine and dandy and the comment were bieng exchanged, ppl were expressing their views and experiences how they feel about this fone. And if some one likes it or dislikes it thay all have their reasons but what really pisses the crap outta me is this general & a very common element which is found in all of these nokia fan boys on this forum is first they'll oppose any one and every one to defend nokia and n900 but when at the end of the day they can't defend their point they'll just tell you to eiether sell it or adapt it and trust me as much as i try my best to keep my mouth shut but i just cant help it..
And I have to say that this is by far the most stupidest, weakest feedback to an argument Ive ever read or heard in my entire life.
For God sakes don't defend Nokia in the firstplace if you cant face the facts & when all teh facts and personal experiences & technical comparisons are thrown right in your face then please please try to come up with decent arguments and If you cant then please accept it like a man and take it cus that is the reality none of you are share holders at Nokia, so be a man and suck it up that the company and device have alot of flaws. STOP BIENG IGNORANT:mad:

Are you fck stupid! Where have i defended Nokia. Do you have problems with reading? Lets try again my points:
- Maemo.org and developers here are amazing
- IMO Nokia is not doing itīs own part very well
- No reason to give feedback here Go Nokia forums to give it

What really pisses me is that people basically give finger (accuse to being fanboy) just because they might have read but failed to understand what they read.

What the hell? Have i tried to argue about weak battery life of N900. I'm just messenger. It sucks, try to adapt, if not possible sell it and be happy with your life. What is wrong with you man? Iīm giving tips about how to extend you battery life and how to tweak it and then people come here and tell me that Iīm some fanboy who thinks that Nokia is all wonderful and amazing fck that.

Is it just that my English is not so good or what in the name of a-s-sclowns is happening here?
