Very weird SMS
 

I had faced very strange problem last month.

Actually i had received an SMS from someone, then i tried to read it then i noticed that there is a small box showing the SMS as at the image below

This SMS is not exist in SMS/IM log, i asked my frind to send it again , and it happend again. and I have say that this problem happend from my friend number only, i tried to receive from other people and everything was OK.


Anyone had faced this problem before?

seems like flash sms to me. An old trick that caused sms's to show directly on the screen. Didn't know phones still supported that. I remember using my siemens S35 connected to a pc via IR to send flash sms to friends, telling them their contacts have been wiped due to an error :-)

yes, that's flash sms, I tried to send it via web sms gateway of my mobile operator and I got the same popup :-)

I've noticed the same some time ago, when roaming from T-Mobile Network to another "foreign" T-Mobile. The operator used it showing me sms and phone terms. Anyone knows how to send such an flash sms _from_ the N900?

If I remember correctly, flash sms were also called type 0 sms. Maybe there is an argument somewhere to determine the type of sms to send.

Yep, here :http://www.dreamfabric.com/sms/alert.html it is called class0 message. But todo this, i think we need to send sms messages from the cli?

back in the day all u had to do is put in '0001 ' (w/o quotes) in the beginning of the message... i tried that on the n900 sms app.. didn't work.. then again, i sent it to myself

Thanks for resurrecting this thread, I've been meaning to report something similar. My operator keeps sending me SMSes that show fine in the preview but not otherwise. They show up on the list but cannot be opened or even deleted from there, although once attempted to delete, they eventually disappear when I delete something else. What on earth is that?

(Talking about the N900 here, BTW)

Another 6 months passed, another update ;)

This is what I am talking about. An SMS from my mobile operator, reminding me to top up my credit. Shows up fine in the initial notification (the yellow box, sorry, I did not take a screenshot of that), first line preview shows up fine in the message list, message shows empty when opened full-screen.

Has anyone else experienced anything like that? Any idea how to debug it?

(Hmm, most of the thread seems to be talking about flash SMS. I gather this is not one of those but it fits the thread title so I suppose it is better here than starting a new thread.)

Sometimes I have this too. With normal SMS from normal contacts.
But it resolves itself after closing all UI (maybe a killall rtcom-messaging-ui), or ofc a reboot.

OT: what I else experience only lately is that on switching connectivity on and I do get a SMS and a IRC notification simultaneously the messages get scrambled (one shown in the other thread). But also this resolves on its own.

oh..i think only me having this issue, sms blank, occured to me quite often, wait for while and open up again than sms show normal
