MeeGo Release Soon Repo Empty

The Release of 1.0 must be soon the repo was cleaned out today.
6 days left of May.....

First we need PR 1.2

resplendent2209 2010-05-24 23:42

Re: MeeGo Release Soon Repo Empty

We need dual boot with Maemo PR1.2 and Meego 1.0!

It looks highly likely :D

Re: MeeGo Release Soon Repo Empty

Hmm so Meego 1.0 is confirmed before May over at their wiki. And we need PR1.2 to dual-boot.

-Nokia never releases on a Friday
-PR1.1 released on a Thursday
-PR1.1.1 released on a Tuesday
-Nokia rep from Italy says it will be released Wednesday

I hope they don't be Douche Canoe's and wait 'till the 31st.

Will Meego have video skype?

resplendent2209 2010-05-25 00:33

Re: MeeGo Release Soon Repo Empty

Chill guys. All speculations. However I read somewhere that dual booting is what they were looking at.

the question is will meego support all the hardware features of the n900, otherwise, why would you want to dual boot ?

resplendent2209 2010-05-25 00:53

Re: MeeGo Release Soon Repo Empty

Provided Meego 1.0 turns out to be near perfect, no one would want to dual boot.

Re: MeeGo Release Soon Repo Empty

Had anybody went through all the Meego post yet. If not do, it clarifies that May release would not be for regular public it is still going to be Developer centric.

resplendent2209 2010-05-25 01:10

Re: MeeGo Release Soon Repo Empty

Then we want PR 1.2 :D

Re: MeeGo Release Soon Repo Empty

Will it have a GUI?

slaapliedje 2010-05-25 03:05

Re: MeeGo Release Soon Repo Empty

From what I understood, MeeGo 1.0 would be just the basic shell along with some hardware support.

Looking at the few changelogs that were quoted in a different thread, it looks like they had added closed source N900 drivers (bluetooth comes to mind, but there were a few others like the BME (battery meter efficiency or something like that).

I figure I'd just chill and watch it unfold. I'm mostly waiting for Qt 4.6 so that I may start learning Python and Qt programming. It's really perfect if you think about it, should be completely cross platform between Linux, Mac, Windows (which by the way should ALWAYS be the way they are listed, since you are supposed to list things in alphabetical order!) and a few of the Mobile OSs. Not sure about WebOS, but at the very least MeeGo and Symbian.

Re: MeeGo Release Soon Repo Empty

The UI looks good. I am sick of waiting :D

Re: MeeGo Release Soon Repo Empty

When will the UI versions for non-developers start coming out? That part is sorely lacking in terms of a release date.

resplendent2209 2010-05-25 03:47

Re: MeeGo Release Soon Repo Empty

No one's here to tell us :D and they call it open source :D

nobody knows but Harmattan was renamed MeeGo 1.0 so we'll definitely see a UX before October and MeeGo 1.1

Re: MeeGo Release Soon Repo Empty

So what about the meego device to be announced in september at nokia world?

resplendent2209 2010-05-25 04:08

Re: MeeGo Release Soon Repo Empty

Now it's confirmed that there will be no UX in the upcomin Meego 1.0 for N900 as qgil thanks the user who said "UX in Meego 1.1".

Waits for PR 1.2 :D

The MeeGo project announced that this release in May will come with Netbook UX only. The next MeeGo stable release will come in Q4. The MeeGo project will move to open development after May so yes, you won't need to wait until October to see and even test the Handset UX while it gets stable.

All this refers to MeeGo, the open project by the Linux Foundation releasing a 100% free OS. If you are interested in the MeeGo based release from Nokia with all the Nokia commercial bits on top, then you need to wait for news from Nokia.

Can you tell us please, if it would be some standard in UI for meego, or nokia would have it's own? because as meego beeing opens source it has different look on if it's developed separately by different manufactures.

Nothing, really it has NOTHING to do with meego, i mean it can be meego UI, but this UI is not developed by meego devs. It's one of the common linux DEs and i use it at home for several years already. If it is really the DE they would use by default in meego on desktops(laptops or netbooks) you can see more screenshots here - http://www.xfce.org/about/screenshots
be careful i don't know if xfce4 would be really used as default DE, i assumed it from other user post in this thread

Re: MeeGo Release Soon Repo Empty

No MeeGo for the N900.

http://conversations.nokia.com/2010/...e-release-1-2/

"Moving away from the update and to look at MeeGo and the Nokia N900. Many of you have been asking whether the new MeeGo platform will be supported on the N900 once it’s device-ready. Although Nokia N900 devices are being used for platform development and testing purposes by those involved in the MeeGo project, we don’t have plans for a full scale commercial MeeGo upgrade on the Nokia N900. The reason? It’s really about ensuring that you have the best possible experience designed for the features on your Nokia N900 device. Nokia realises this news may be a disappointment for some, rest assured that Nokia will continue to support the core Maemo software on your Nokia N900, as evidenced by the PR 1.2 (V10.2010.19-1) update available today."

Yes no Harmattan/Meego on n900 but Meego 1.0 on n900 yes.
