Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
Hi,
Not even sure its worth reporting as a bug fix anymore, not sure if it will be fixed or even be a new release of firmware one day. Just want to make sure it is actually a bug and not just my n900. If you put birthdays on your contacts, they normally come up in the calendar widget with a pink line next to them which was great. Since updating to 1.2 these have now gone from the widget (which shows events up to 12 months in the future instead). But they are still there when you click on the calendar. Is anyone finding the same? Also as a side note, conversations widget is no longer showing |

Looking at the changelog it seems to be this bug that made the change. So to fix the performance issue they just removed the feature. |
Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
is the smart calendar activated (calendar-settings)?
|
Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
i have the same issue ...
and yes, smart calender is activated, otherwise birthdays won't be visible in the calendar at all ... it's only the widget which doesn't show them |
Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
i checked the settings in the calendar app, and there is no setting for smart calendar. All that shows up for me are the following options: Edit calendars, Alarm tone, Delete items, and First day of week.

Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
it's under "edit calenders" ... you can check/uncheck it there

Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
Actually I just ran a test with adding a new contact with a birthday shows up fine but any old birthdays I have in my contacts don't show unless I go back into the contact and edit \ re-save the birthday
|
Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
oh yeah... well in that case then yeah, it is activated, just like you mentioned, they're not shown on the widget itself, however for me they also don't show in the app itself in the month and week view, just in the agenda view

Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
I'll try that in a minute. I used hermes to get all the birthdays so I have like 50 contacts with birthdays in.
I've reflashed again anyway (constantly rebooting when installed titan kernel) so i'll install hermes in a sec and give it a go. Kev |
Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
Confirmed: This does work, you have to click 'refresh' and all of a sudden they popup again in the widget! Cheers guys

Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
thanks for the confirmation, i'm sure that's going to save lots of people a lot of time and effort

Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
I'm experiencing something similar, however not quite the same:
I have not changed my contacts since upgrading. I have 3 birthdays coming up: 25th and 30th of May and 1st of June. Only June 1st shows up in the widget, but if I resave the one on 25th, it also appears. |
Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
I can confirm that re-saving a contact, brings back that birthday.
I don't use Hermes though so i have to figure out another way of bringing them back. I'll try re-syncing with my PC this evening. |
Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
Everyone the simplest way is to do this:
In Calendars 1. Settings 2. Edit Calendars 3. Click "Birthdays" 4. Delete (wont actually delete the data) Press Back 5. "New" 6. Select "Birthdays Smart Calendar" 7. Next. 8. Finish. Now ALL your entries should show in the calendar widget .No need to manually edit and confirm each contacts birthday. |

Thank you, I didn't notice it!

Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
Only one problem with this solution, if like me you tend to assign alarms for some of those birthdays, this method will require you to manually enable them for each entry you require an alarm on.
A bit of work in my case, I tend to forget these things a lot, so an actual alarm is very handy for me, and there's quite a few of them in my calendar. Though I'm thinking, since I usually set them to the previous day and to the same time, and seeing as they're all events that "sit" inside a separate calendar, there should be a way to do this automatically.. |
Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing EVENTS
A bit of a side step from the actual topic, but closely related and after searching the forum for an hour and not finding anything I thought I post my little problem here.
My calendar widegt only shows the next upcoming 3 events and then skips the events to show one more random event in the future (december in my case). Only 4 are shown at any time. I tried to add more events in between, but always the same result. Anybody an ingenious idea? Thanks EDIT, managed to show more than 3 events if I add them in between the first three. After deleting them again, I do get the December one back though (there are plenty of other events in between now and December) |
Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
I have the opposite problem from the OP, I have disabled the Birthdays calendar as syncing with Outlook creates the birthday as a normal calendar event (I think - this actually doesn't seem to work 100%) however the calendar widget still shows the events from the smart calendar (ie with the pink identifier)

If I manually add events to that missing period they do not show up on the widget. NB these are main calendar events, not birthdays. |
Re: Calendar Widget on 1.2 not showing birthdays
THats odd, in PR 1.1.1 I wasn't showing any birthdays at all in my calendar, now I've got 1.2 its showing on the widget and calendar because its pulled it from skype..
