I have been stalking these boards for a few months reading bout the 1.2 and if meego would be on the n900 etc. All I can say from a completely outside perspective is SHAME ON NOKIA for not officially getting meego on the n900. You paid how much for your phone? It has been released 7 months? Does Nokia have attention deficit disorder or something? I think n900 owners should get a 50% trade in value or heck just 50% off as a good will gesture from Nokia on the first meego phone.

In real estate they have a term "there goes the neighborhood". I think that is what just happened to the value of the n900.

I guess for a guy like me waiting to perhaps pick one of these up on the cheap this is a good day.

N900 with Maemo will run the same apps and games that MeeGo phones will run so what's the problem?

i think you should do something more than whine. there probably(hopefully) will be a device program for active maemo.org users. unfortunately you don't apply for conditions only creating this thread.....

By that rationale Nokia should also offer all Symbian 60 owners a similar deal when Symbian^3 is launched... and all Symbian^ owners the same deal when Symbian^4...

I don't think anyone really anticipated how things would develop before the Intel/Nokia deal, not even Nokia. Whilst Maemo will (in all probability) fade away in time we have some fantastic opportunities in the meantime.

As an OS Maemo 5 still impresses in many areas and has great potential for a couple of years. That potential will not be developed by Nokia - they have bigger fish to fry now.

The developer community within this forum should be allowed to fully develop all areas of Maemo 5 if Nokia do not want to take on the job themselves.

I think Nokia owe us that lifeline.

Think it through.

Replace "N900" for "any product" and "Meego phone" for "any updated version of the first product".

I'm Whining? No I'm winning. this will push the phone price way down (make take a few months). I'm actually happy about it from a purely selfish perspective, but that doesn't mean I am happy people got taken by Nokia.

I don't see what the big fuss about MeeGo not appearing officially for the N900.

Face it, you don't have any concrete facts to rightfully fuss around either.

You're only dissappointed that soon people will have something you probably won't, and that you'll be left with a perfectly functional but 1 step older device.

Nokia are not backing Meego on the N900. So the N900 is a dead platform for sales in Nokia's eyes, so they won't sell them (or make them). And the precious Maemo community will shrink, it won't grow. There is a finite number of N900's and there won't be more. You can have adaptations all you want to get Meego to work, just like you have to install 14 apps to get the N900 to work, (still no video calling), but you brick your phone and it is good night phone.

Nokia have basically given the finger in that post to the world of the N900. It will be a minority platform for developers, the same bunch of developers and not the new blood that Android and Apple get. Limiting future uptake of the OVI store and uptake of Meego or what comes after that.

Or am I wrong, please tell me this isn't how it is, that Nokia not supporting Meego on the N900 will see sales rise?

There will (hopefully) be a Community effort to port Meego (Qt) apps and even a hacked version of Meego itself onto N900.

I think this is more than we could realistically hope for - I had pretty much resigned myself to enjoying N900 as it is, but this could change the game completely.

Whatta hel-l is going on here with all meego stuff. I think that Nokia conversations should have made their statement with n+1 links to different Nokia employees blogs and post here where they state that Meego will not be just upgrade for your maemo and only developer release will be made. Have people some kind of reading disorder or what is happening here. Also we will have 1.3 update and this device is starting ot be what is supposed to be. Only thing that right now saddens me is flash support which is degrading.

I can't believe those who are ok with this. this meamo 5 os out for such a short period and end of the line on $500 + phone.

If The Who ever wrote a song about Nokia users they would have to change the line to

It's in Nokia's gene to rain the market with gajilliongs of models every year...

Personally, I think it takes away from that 'special feeling' toward the device because no model feels 'new' longer than just a few months before it's superseded by a different model (whether partially or entirely). Not to mention that once the model don't sell well anymore, all support for it (software included) are dropped quicker than a brick in the ocean...

@extendedping well i guess if you are fast enough and go now into the Meego Community maybe you get the frist Meego Device for free or much more Cheaper .. remember this action before N900 was released at this Forum you was able to buy the N900 much more Cheaper than anywhere else when you was have enough karma Points..

Needless to say that i wasnt have enough posts or points at this time so i bought it for the full price of 600 euro and for those who telling us well sell your n900 if you arent happy look at ebay prices for the n900 its around 200-250$ ..
