No.

Here's Wired article from a guy who tested the software:
http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/...ounced,-tested

And a picture gallery:
http://www.wired.co.uk/photos/wired-...ct-on-meego-os

EDIT: The article says it's running on MeeGo, which could be true or just writer's confusion about Nokia's confusing branding.

It's on Maemo. The writer is confused

looks pretty sweet

maybe using linklocal xmpp?

Re: Nokia Instant Community presentation

Hmmm - looks like the type of thing that would enable lcuk to accomplish what he was talking about for liqbase - allowing the 'fluid' from one n900 to be pushed to the next adjacent tablet, and so on. (from summit chats between talk, IIRC).

It might use Nokia's Explore and Share technology that has been previously demonstrated using a modified N900.

[NEWS]Nokia presents Nokia Instant Community

I think it's something cool. The way to exchange msgs/files/to have group chats, with no phone or internet use.
First Video on youtube (btw it's used on N900 and N900 has portrait mode O_o )
another video of prototype

Re: [NEWS]Nokia presents Nokia Instant Community

Dunno, this does look like a sac of ... stuff that will hardly ever come true :D

But I'm wondering, what is the technology connecting these devices together? Surely if it happens through the cellular network, mobile operators will want fees for the traffic going back and forth. If its connected to WiFi, then everyone would have to have their WiFi on etc... sounds a bit impossible!

really innovative and a great idea as an ice-breaker method

Maybe that was some kind of early alpha version of Maemo 6.

Nothing magical about the tech. Just location aware internet connection AFAICT. It's a nice concept though.

It's all very clever but I think Nokia should really learn to communicate first.

You don't understand, thats why they are creating this tool.
Only then, they will be able to walk next to you and tell you : "PR1.2 was delayed because of a major bug found in battery consumption, OK?" (Twitter style)
Or did you actually expect them to post that info in a "forum" OMG you old fashion dude. :D

there will be some law in the uk stopping us from being able to use it has there always is. Never live in the uk its a country not worth living in

Re: [NEWS]Nokia presents Nokia Instant Community

But what if you don't fancy the girl who loves your poem. What can the N900 do in such circumstances?

Could you have a LIKE / DISLIKE option the moment you spot them to send to their device informing them that the writer of the Poem (i.e. You) has just left the building and that the chap they are looking at is really a geeky guy (who hates poetry) and that you wouldn't be interested in anyway.

Also, could it then send them GPS co-ordinates to the local launderette and a message telling them to run quickly outside and they would find the Poet?

Perhaps a Brainstorm?

Ah, MANETs...

I always though this as stupid, but hey, as I always tell myself, that's the reason I'm not in marketing...

Each country has it's crap.
In Israel they confiscated IPad(s) from incoming citizens in the airport, cause it was not yet approved by our government (communication department).
They told the citizens they can either, "just" leave it in the airport without getting fined, or pay 10$ a day for holding, till they can find someone over seas to sell it to.

Can you believe someone coming home from overseas with a new toy? and it gets confiscated in the airport??????? (and I am not talking about smuggling, I am talking about people who officially declared they are importing and wanted to pay tax according to the law!!!!!)

Re: [NEWS]Nokia presents Nokia Instant Community

now thats just a daft law but is it cause vodafone over here have to check the os systems before they can be released even though nokia is much hugher than them and have made sure works perfectly so we have all had to flash our phone wish i was rich and could live where there are no stupid laws like buy my own island lol

The phone UI looks consistently fake through the video, and plastered over, I would say it is post-production CG.

Edit: in the promotional video.
