Any easy way to merge contacts as it takes ages using it on device.

use MfE? then you could edit contacts with pc and changes would be synced back.

It works but its too much tedious.

I mean when you input all the ID's like Yahoo, Facebook and all the it created multiple contacts and its difficult to select contacts and then merge them one by one.

I was looking for a solution by PC like doing it easily may be with OVI Suit Beta?

Yes Have PC Suit as well as Ovi Beta which supports N900.

Merging contacts seems to have got slower from previous firmwares, but it may be just that I have more of them now.

Also, it no longer asks me which information I want to keep if there is a conflict.

does that mean that there is a quicker way to merge contacts other than using the device feature?

Anyonw know how to merge contacts Directly in the PC becuase is too slow using the N900 Merge way?
i mean Contacts+Facebook+skype+twitter.

mmm i dont.

there are very unrelated account types, and person information.

I cant imagine how to merge them if not "pointing" one by one.

Or at least a way to have all contacts in the PC, because in my case example:

Contact 1: Name: Mario Mobile No. 123456789 e-mail: 123@123.com
Contact 2 Nikcname: Mario webpage: www.test.com
Contact 3: mario.aguado

then contact 2 and 3 are from facebook and skype
But when i sync to Ms outlook or Ovi Suite just the Contact 1 is synced.
2 and 3 no. then then only way is via merge option in N900

will be nice the way to sync all contacts in a PC and the merge it then sync again to N900 and solved.

what do you think?

I'm after a way to do this too if anyone knows? or anyway to put it in outlook so MfE will sync them across?
There are Just too many : phone, skype, fb, msn-pecan.
And it is much much slower in 1.2

Don't think so, most of the contacts only exist locally one the N900(if you sync you would only get the pure phone contacts, not Facebook, MSN etc. contacts). At least that's my guess.

there *is* a quick way but you need to hire the large hadron collider, so its not cheap :(

There are a million fields spare for contacts in outlook.. would it be possible to get these type informations to syn backwards?
Don't really know how contacts and outlook/exchange integration works..

i really cannot udnerstand what is wrong with the new firmware...it is much slower to merge contacts...i was using jabber for facebook contacts and now that facebook is supported directly (practically same thing as jabber) i ended up with jabber and facebook on contacts! i have a mess!

Yep agree this is a major annoyance. I even deleted my jabber account and yet the jabber details still exist on my contacts. And there must be a way to merge the new facebook contacts created to existing contacts. When something happened that caused the jabber facebook contacts to be unmerged someone created a Facebook Migrator app that remerged the contacts. Can't some kind person create a similar app to merge the new facebook contacts?

+1 on the app request.

I tried once to export vCards from the N900, merge them all nice and neat on my Mac, and then back to the N900. It didn't work -- once I logged into the chat services, it was the same thing again.

To me, either Ovi Sync/PC Suite should be able to do this. Or something along those lines. It's very frustrating, especially when you go to make a phone call and you hit the wrong entry.
