PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
So how many rootfs space is needed? I got around 45MB free. Maybe some guys from the UK can report what was free when they did the OTA update to PR1.2.

Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?

Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
It varies, so there are possibly other factors in play.
Mine refused to work with 54MB free and eventually worked with 58MB free. There is a wiki page on freeing rootfs space - one useful tip is to disable any application repositories except for the Nokia one. |
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
I managed it with around 58-59MB free. :)

Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
How come the update does not appear for me? I refreshed HAM half a dozen times already.

Removing applications is slow as h*ll, it seems one measly update requires one or two working days. (rest of comments censored) |
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
Beware of this, the problem might not be not having enough rootfs free space.

Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
Some people have been having trouble doing OTA updates with the following apps installed.Try removing them and then installing after:
gltron tux racer teeworld brainparty freeoffice openarena countdowntimer wikihow |
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
Mine refused to install with 33MB free (and displayed a cryptic "Not enough storage space in target location" error message - Nokia really has to work on their error messages).
It worked fine with 40MB free. IIRC, all I had to do was to run an apt-get clean to free up some space (had already disabled extra-testing and extra-devel). Check out http://wiki.maemo.org/Free_up_rootfs_space for a few tips on how to free up some space. Interestingly, after having installed PR 1.2 (OTA) I ended up with 65MB of free space in rootfs. |
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
i needed 62mb.... after update to 1.2 i have 80mb free :)
|
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
I had 48 mb free and updated via wifi. It seems to have worked (but I did see some sort of error message half way through but it didn't stay long enough to see what it said). Everything seems to be working as expected.
After updating, I have 68mb free, so someone's done some tweaking. It's a 100+ mb download. and it seems to hang a few times during the update process - just be patient. |
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
I had 48 mb free rootfs and updated the NAM OTA update and it worked fine.
as someone mentioned I got a bried quick message ' operation failed' while the update was one but it continued fine and I have the new update working . Have 77mb free rootfs now post-update. |
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
I had to use the PC updater to re-install the old version, then I could OTA the new version, no amount of free space was working for me.

Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
Is it just me or what, ive been getting this message when trying to update via app manager:
"To update your device to this version of the operating system yo umust use the Nokia Software update application on your PC. Connect the device to your PC via a USB cable and launch the application." Any tips? |
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
I was getting the same error, uninstalled brainparty, tuxrace, gltron, teeworlds and it's working now...

Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
@Duff
That means you don't have enough rootfs space to do the installation via the phone. OR try uninstalling the apps mentioned in the post before this one. Goodluck Mine works fine with around 46mb...after downloading, it gives me at "operation failed" message and the phone kinda froze...I watch for a minute, reboot my phone...at the Nokia white screen, it continues to install...all is fine again...LOL |
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
mine went through with just under 52mb. now im at 74mb of rootfs

Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
uninstalled tuxracer and ota worked
|
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
40 worked just fine for me this morning! :)
|
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
Had 54 and didn't work. Apt-get remove brainparty, followed by an apt-get autoremove fixed it, even if overall root gained under 400K tops.
Upgrading now... |
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
52 free worked for me. but damn, the download was slow here down under. all in all the phone was out of action for 2 hours or so. btw. also got the quick error message while updating.

So, any theory on why these particular packages misbehave? Edit: according to this post by cpitchford, the issue arises due to dependencies on either WebKit or OpenGL-ES. I'd guess OpenGL-ES for gltron and brainparty, since I don't think either one uses WebKit. |
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
I too wasn't able to install PR 1.2 OTA until I uninstalled Brain Party (I had none of the other apps listed installed).
Out of interest, what exactly was it that was stopping the update? Could Brain Party (or whatever) release an updated version that would work both before and after PR 1.2? It seems a bit much to expect the average user to know that some apps need to be uninstalled before an OTA OS upgrade. |

Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
Thanks to all for this help. For me, it was "countdown timer" that seems to have been the problem. No more error messages now that I've just uninstalled it. Downloading has just begun. I'll try to keep my fingers crossed, but not sure I can do so for two hours!:)

Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
So far, so good. Took just 45 minutes to download and install.
|
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
as many persons said before I needed to uninstall brainparty first and then it went all well with around 46MB of rootfs
|
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
I installed PR 1.2 OTA with about 47MB of rootfs free successfully.
|
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
With only the Nokia repositories enabled, I had 55MB free and the update worked fine (OTA, 3G). After 1.2, now have 83MB free, both figures from StorageUsage app...
|
Re: PR1.2: how much rootfs space for OTA update?
Had 33mb free and it went in no probs at all. Download was about 113mb and the whole thing took 30mins from start to end.
