PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
I've just upgraded my N900 to PR1.2 (version is now 3.2010.02-8.203.1). Almost everything went fine, except all my conversations have been lost!
When I load up the conversations app, it's empty and shows "No Conversations". I've received a couple of SMS's, these showed up in the yellow alerts and I could view them, but now I've closed the windows they're not showing up either in the conversations app. Anyone know how to get the conversations app to show both my old and new SMSs after the upgrade? Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
How did you upgrade?
|
Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
The Application Manager informed me that there was a maemo upgrade available. I then fired up a root shell and did a "apt-get dist-upgrade" so I could see what it was up to

Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
Try reboot.

Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
Mine disappeared as well. I had backed them up, but chickened out during restoring them as it seemed to be taking an age to "Finalise" at 99%.

Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
Have tried rebooting a couple of times, alas it doesn't help
I've tried sending myself a SMS, that turns up, but the conversations app still claims there are "No Conversations", neither the sent nor the received version show up in it |

Alas I didn't take a backup, silly me :(

Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
can you look in your /home/user/.rtcom-eventlogger directory.
Code:
ls -l /home/user/.rtcom-eventlogger |
Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
Have taken a look in the .rtcom-eventlogger directory, and there is el.db, el.db-journal (empty), el-v1.db and el-v1.db-journal (empty)
I've copied these files to my laptop, and taken a look. Both the .db files are valid sqlite3 databases. Looking inside them, they both seem to have all the events one would expect in them (texts received, texts sent, missed calls etc) Could it be something simple like the format of the database has changed, and for some reason the upgrade didn't add new columns/tables to the database? |
Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
Any difference between el.db and el-v1.db. Which one includes the new
and which the old messages? |
Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
old file is el.db
|
Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
No obvious differences - both files are the same size, and both have the same last few events in them (both only have events from before the upgrade)
They're not quite the same files though - md5s differ on them |
Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
Ah ha! Thanks for the tip about el.db being the old one, and el-v1.db being the new one
I took a backup of ~/.rtcomm-eventlogger/, and then deleted the el-v1.db + journal files. I then rebooted. After the reboot, the conversations app took a long time to start. However, when it had come up, all my old SMSs were there! I've sent a new test sms, and that's come in too Seems I've lost a couple of messages that came in post-upgrade, pre el-v1.db delete, but at least the rest is back. Also, the el-v1.db file is now a different size, which seems to indicate that the upgrade has worked this time |
Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
Congratulation!

Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
Hi,
Can you give me a play by play of how you did the backup of ~/.rtcomm-eventlogger/, and then deleted the el-v1.db + journal files. I am new to this system and not very technically minded. Cheers |
Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
I did:
Code:
control+shift+x (launch terminal) |

I did not do any back up on this phone at all before I did the upgrade. Any ideas? |
Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
Sounds like you're suffering a different problem to the one I had then
Might be worth posting the output of "ls -l" in your ~/.rtcomm-eventlogger/ directory, in case someone else can spot something there. However, I'd have thought that as long as you have the original el.db file from before the upgrade, then a reboot should have the new style el-v1.db file created for you? |
Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
Do you also have a problem with call logs. I have No recent calls where should be a list of all incoming and outgoing calls. Do you know if I need to switch on any specific logging for SMS and Calls.
Thanks |
Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
Call list is working fine for me. I can see all the calls I made/received/missed from before the upgrade. Have just called my N900 from another phone, and the missed call correctly showed up in a Yellow alert box, and then in the call log.
However, I didn't think to look in the call log when I was having problems with the conversations app, so I've no idea what that was showing then (but my hunch is it wouldn't have shown anything either) |
Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
I did the update and all conversations are there on the right place. Top! :)

Here is another thread that may contain the same (or similar) problem as yours:

Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
How do I check if I have the el-v1.db file?
Sorry but I am really new to this and have no clue where I should be looking and what I should be entering. |
Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!

Code:
cd ~/.rtcomm-eventlogger/ Code:
~ $ cd .rtcom-eventlogger/ |
Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
cd ~
ls -la cd .rtcom-eventlogger mv *.db* ../ And it resolved the problem for both conversations and calls |
Re: PR1.2 - All conversations lost!
You could consider taking a backup and restore it.. probably will that help in anyway?
