symbian porting for lack of phone functionality
I know this has been discussed already but is there any project that is ongoing for this? At least just for the sake of supporting the current maemo lack of phone functions like video call(3g), mms etc. Well some might say that I should get a symbian phone then if I want but lol I already have my omnia HD and I would not do such a thing. Imagine a person carrying 2 bulky phones on each side of pockets. Well if there isn't any could someone just at least enlighten some of us if it would be possible and how to start? I'm already an expert of linux system(pc) and also on symbian(phone). What i'm lacking of is just on how would I integrate/port the symbian's rofs, core etc. images into n900? And what software can be used? Porting driver's isn't a big deal for me I can do it all alone with a little research.
To make it short i'd like someone to give me a hint on how to start things out... I already gathered all the information regarding n900's drivers, hardware, nokia's PDK. I'm planning on porting the open source symbian^1 and dual boot it on n900(with the primary priority of the phone functions) as I can see SE Satio has very similar hardware with n900. |

Re: symbian porting for lack of phone functionality
Symbian is available for Beagleboard, so porting it to Nokia N900 might be easier than we think.

Symbian Port for N900
The NITDroid project has been succesful, and now i want someone to make a Symban Port called Maembian for the N900 beacause i do like Symbian

Re: Symbian Port for N900
oh boy  this should be good.
|
Re: Symbian Port for N900
Good luck with that
|
Re: Symbian Port for N900
Who the F are you to demand such things? None cares if you like Symbian or the stupid name you came up with. Oh and FYI NITDroid is a voluntary project and its not quite finished yet.
Learn to respect other people's work and if you're really interested in porting Symbian which is not possible anyway I recommend you ask for it nicely no one owes you anything |
Re: Symbian Port for N900
I want people to get naked and dance for me while someone feeds me grapes. NOW.
I call it Graperape dance fun times night. |
Re: Symbian Port for N900
I don't see anything wrong in someone saying what they want. They are presumably conveying an accurate record of their mental state.

Re: Symbian Port for N900

im not a programer or anything but i'll be a tester |
Re: Symbian Port for N900
if you like Symbian buy a N8

Re: Symbian Port for N900
I get porting Android, but Symbian? Who would ever want Symbian on ANY phone? :p I understand companys that's used it before like it, cuz they can re-use their programs, but a user? Oh, well, GLHF with this. ;)

Re: symbian porting for lack of phone functionality
Some people are so negative. shake them off your shoulder and do you thing. You got my support and my help if i can do something. I know a bit of C++ and python but I'm not really a programmer. Anyway good luck mate.

Re: symbian porting for lack of phone functionality
I'd love to help with bug testing, but my N900 is the cellphone equivalent of a nuclear weapons testing field by now, I think I'll let it rest for a while :P
Also, why not Android, why Symbian? Well because Symbian is way lighter than android, I can only get a few hours of battery life when I boot to 2.3 |
Re: symbian porting for lack of phone functionality
I remember reading that with uBoot porting symbian could be done... but not sure about that =/

Re: symbian porting for lack of phone functionality
isnt this 1 year ago???????

Re: symbian porting for lack of phone functionality
bottom line: porting symbian would take someone with extreme skill (and time) to rewrite drivers for the n900 hardware from scratch. i would love to see this happen, but it is highly unlikely.

Re: symbian porting for lack of phone functionality
i use to be one of symbian modder...i have make a few hacked filmware base on symbian v5 for 5800,5530,5230,5233....i have turn symbian filmware from basic to extreme version (fast & fully upgrade)...now i switch to maemo cause i don't have the fun hacking symbian anymore....
so as far as one of the symbian modder i know how the system are & for the idea to port it (dual boot) to n900 will not happening cause the system is to much different to be port... n900 is a tablet phone so why you want use smartphone system where maemo system is far better than symbian??? you want to use some symbian applications such as 3G calling??? then you don't you just buy a symbian phone rather than waiting for someone port symbian system to n900....even if someone can port it do you thinks all features on symbian system can be fully working on n900??? if you do then perhaps you day dreaming cause even when modded C6 symbian system & port it to 5800 there is still many bug & features that i have to downgrade just to make it working on 5800.... imagine if porting from symbian to symbian is a major pain in the neck how can porting symbian to maemo will be???? |
