N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
I have updated my N900 and spent most of the day playing around with it and really like the Video calling and IM for facebook, although I saw the list of fixes and updates, Ive got to admit I was hoping for a bit more,
I thought they may surprise us and added voice for maps/contact, as well as MMS function for the phone. Im happy that the web know has portrait, but in truth I will probably use it mainly in landscape, but in truth I would have loved to see some of the basics updated to use Portrait, contacts, home-screen, IM. I love the phone and maybe I am being greedy, so I thought I would checkout what other N900 users thought. So generally are you happy or blown away with the update or have you been left wanting? |

Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
I hoped that that they make the calendar usable, but they didn't. All the update did, were cosmetic changes only. Nothing useful.

Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
A bit sad there hasn't been any work done on battery life, My phone was dead by the end of yesterday, as usual :(

Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
I want to see flash improvements and a proper ovi maps with free voice navigation... as well as many more apps from the ovi store, oh and general stability throughout (althou not to bad now).
I wouldn't mind seeing the ability to queue application installs as well, really annoying only being able to do one at a time, even symbian can queue them! |
Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
Needs Flash 10.1 and Ovi Maps 3

Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
I too hoped for an improved/usable calendar, but I had no unrealistic expectations of Nokia surprising with adding more than they would... realistically be expected to... Only previously announced features, bug fixes and things they always intended to put there but didn't get ready in time for 1.0.
As a matter of fact, I find it in my heart to believe the only reason we got as much new functionality as the video calls brings, was the fact that the front side camera stands out like a sly marketing decision when there's no actual use for it. So, this is pretty much what I expected, except I didn't expect video calls ANY LONGER; I expected it when I first read up on the device. |
Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
The only thing that I've noticed is that my screen sometimes goes dark. Or, just a battery shows on top. Not a reboot, just kinda going blank . . .
Otherwise, I didn't see so much improvements. I've lost a Facebook Sharing Service. |
Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?

Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
Autodisconnect really is nice. I am happy for the 1.2 update for one specific thing......portrait browsing. Makes it so much better now that it autorotates hehe.

I was really waiting for skype video calls, but now it's here it doesn't work with ANY of my contacts. Really impressing. I can now add my N900 as a device in iSync, but I have still not been able to sync anything.
Great improvements ;) |
Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
Well, i wanted only bugfixes for PR1.2... And i still want bugfixes for 1.2.1 or 1.3

Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
I'm very impressed with PR1.2 so far.
The Media Player widget works properly now, as does hovering over a link in MicroB to open the link in a new window. I like the new virtual keyboard too. I've also noticed that battery life is better, having lasted over a day and a half now, with fairly heavy usage, and it's still going. Yesterday morning, at 9am it was unplugged from the mains, and was used while I walked into uni, as I was listening to music - about 30mins of music. Then I sat outside the exam hall and did some last-minute revision for about an hour of glancing at Powerpoint presentations in Freoffice. Then the phone was off for 2hrs during my exam, and then it's been on again since. 30mins of music on the walk home from uni and then a few phone calls, texts and about 3 hours of browsing/youtube videos yesterday evening. I disabled the 3G radio over night and again I've used it about 2hours this morning, browsing the internet over wifi and a couple of texts sent. BatteryGraph says it's at 16% now. Pretty happy with that, much better than before. I like the CTRL+SHIFT+R rotation in programs, although it's annoying that it doesn't remember that I've done that keypress next time I open the application. I'd love to find a way to enable it on an application and then it be like that permanently until disabled again - much like MicroB was in PR1.1.1 with the rotation shortcut. Volume control while the phone is locked is also great, very glad to see that included. Overall, pretty impressed so far. Shame to hear about other people having troubles with Flash though, that's a bit ****. If I think of anything else, I'll update here. |

Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
Did they at least make the media player better? Like remembering playback position? That is such an annoying defect.

Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
I've noticed I don't have the option ro make a skype call or Jabber call anymore from a contact. Is this because it checks to see the VOIP capabilities of the client?

I did try with USB, but just get the same error message as with bluetooth. Some people have been able to sync it via bluetooth as well. Seems very upredictable. |
Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
PR1.2 seems to have reduced my cellular signal sensitivity. Finding it very difficult to get any sort of GSM signal since the upgrade.

Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
Here is what I really hope for PR 1.3
Bug fixes of course but here is what I realy realy want a) portrait mode for lockscreen so you can unlock with one hand (don't need portrait for desktop or browser) b) Calendar: I had to move an appointment. Client tells me to move to next wendsday. Now if have to start calculating on what day you are and what that would be. Why not a month view instead of 3 wheels for day, month, year c) Integration of MSN Messenger like Skype d) Turn by turn would acutally make my day :-) e) scrollbar for fast scrolling (I have 7000 images backed up and flipping to the top is just a pain in the .... you know where f) Mediaplayer - I want to simple click on a song and then choose a playlist where the song is to be added. I still have not found out how to add songs easy g) virual keyboard the slash / should be available when alphabet is shown for entering URL. Dot should be also available when in number view. IP Adresses h) browser either open with start page or bookmarks option i) In contact Call with Skype should show (home) (mobile) (work) j) Flash 10.1 would be another WOW! k) browser could be faster l) somehow over wifi I not allways seem to get full speed on the N900 m) two icons for cam and video And last but not least -> NOKIA should look at all the great brainstrom ideas and consider some of the request that are really great and some must be easy to do Make one advancement for example the sykpe (home), skype (office) thing. Test ist make it 1.2.1 and realeas it. if they do 10 things and release it every week everybody (including chuck norris) will be happy and feel as if Nokia cares about us. Markus |

I have the same problem. I was testing the Sygic Nav trial today and then my phone just went black, no reason!

Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
I have problems with Gtalk, i dont have a opition to make Gtalk calls anymore.
When someone calls to me from Gtalk i do get the call, but when i answer, it just shuts down. I can't get video calls work in Skype either, i have Skype in Ubuntu 10.4 and webcam does work in that laptop, but don't know how to make video call, or how to enable video in a call. I can enable it from n900 but it doesn's show in laptop. |
Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
How buggy is pr1.2 really? I have not updated mine because it works fine with 1.1.1 and I won't have time to mess with trying to fix problems until this weekend. I have intentionally left my n900 unmodded in preparation for 1.2. The only programs I have downloaded were all from extras, other than fmms.

Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
The only thing that got me happy with PR 1.2 is the USSD feature that was added (this was actually supposed to be included before the phone got released). Other than that, there was nothing in it that I need.

Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
After updating with PR 1.2 I am very satisfy.
The mobile works faster, the battery last a little longer, Skype-video works fine. Also there is new and better OVI Maps ( well not as good as Symbian one, but hope after both are Qt related soon we will get metter one for N900). In general for me the wait for this update was worth. There is one thing I do not understand - almost all Maemo users are waiting for every next update, but Android users (some my friends and more) are just using their mobiles and are pretty satisfy. I know N900 is much better device in comparison to all high-end Andriods, but maybe there is different expectations from this two OS.... Or Maemo/MeeGo users are wiser. ;-))) Regards. |

Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
For what it is worth - I had 2 N97s which both broke and the software was absolute mince. The N900 is very good but..
No voice Nav No MMS No video calls (except Skype) No support from OVI Suite No voice recognition etc PR1.2 has done very little for me and now If the rumours are to believed yet another handset is going obsolete as Nokia aren't going to port Meego onto it. Take the iPhone as a comparison - OS4.0 comes out soon and will go onto all iPhones and iTouch, iPod etc. For me then the lack of support and continuity by Nokia has just cost them my next upgrade. The N900 could have beaten the iPhone but due to the switch from Maemo and lack of Meego support Nokia have taken another wrong turn. :mad:Nokia:mad: |
Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
I am unhappy about email widget not working with nokia messaging, media player widget still not working, calendar widget still has no way to choose your view (month, agenda etc). I think you can see the trail.
Widgets have not been even touched in this PR 1.2 which is such a shame, introducing a new half baked widget when the previous ones are still not working properly. Still forcing us to open phone app then dialpad, should have an option to open in dialpad straight. This update is pretty much what everyone expected but i expected the desktop/widgets to be working flawlessly by now but we are still at dec 09 |
Re: N900 Post PR 1.2 Update what do you think?
I think that the most annoying bugs have been fixed.
And my favourite is Qt, I can now play with it without restorting to hacks. Apart from these, 1.2 is bloatware. But I didn't expect more. |
