N900 video calls to Macs as of PR1.2
 

If you've been able to make a video call to a Mac user with your PR1.2 N900, would you please post here? Please give the name the SIP service and the Mac soft phone.

Apparently, GTalk video calls work, but the Mac must initiate the call. I believe that PR1.2 removes that restriction. I haven't tried it myself.

I successfully placed a video call from the N900 to a Mac. Google Talk Video call. I had to initiate the video call then instantly turn off the video when the button appeared. After the call was going and I could hear the Mac user, I pushed the Video button again and it worked.

I tried calling someone who was on windows, initiated camera call, I could see the video stream on my screen.. but the person on the other end couldn't see anything at allll..

Quite the same for me. I was able to video-skype to a PC user without a problem whatsoever (except maybe a slow call initiation, whcih may result in a failed call attempt).

Video-Skyping to a MAC User, however, faild, even after i updated skype on the machine. But, the Mac-Program lists my N900 with Video capabilities and lets me place a video call. N900 seems to send the video, but the Mac side doesn't receive/send it.

I only have 2 skype contacts which i regularly call, and one of them is on mac. So i'd love to see a solution for this (and no, Google is no solution, my girtlfriend will never install, and use, another messenger on her own :)

Skype hasn't updated their Mac and Linux clients. The windows client is way ahead of the others

Did you select the camra as i have a feeling it is desiabled untill you click the button. Just an idea.

I've tried to place a video call to a mac (and from the mac to the N900) and it does not work.

When the call goes through I don't even have the option (on the Mac) to turn on video.

N900 and Mac does not seem to work for video calling at all.

I haven't tried calling my friends with macs via skype, but to be quite honest it can be very glitchy. Although, i did manage to make a Skype call to a PC laptop from San Diego to Zagreb, so it can work.

I blame iChat, POS.

gchat video worked for me. I made the call and my friend picked up. We video-chatted for 20 mins with no big hiccups.

i too have been experiencing issues with both pc and mac. when i try to call myself with my test account it works (on a pc) my wife on a mac doesnt work... also other ppl i know on pcs dont work. any ideas?

It serves absolutely no positive function and it's not even reflecting the prevailing oss/maemo fanboyism.

It seems there is a new beta available for mac that bumps up the Skype version to v5.0, can someone try it and report back if it enables video calling between N900 and Mac?

I updated to the CSSU from fresh install.
Gchat video call between Linux and N900 runs ok, with a couple issues with the feeds of the cameras.
Gchat video between Mac and N900 only works one way... if n900 activates the camera, the received feed from Mac (latest OS and latest flash update) is lost from N900 screen, even tough the Mac stills broadcast it.
I wonder if the camera-ui2 included in the CSSU may have affected any of the front camera settings.
Does the N900 use flash support (hardware or software) like the clients for PC and Mac do in Gchat video call?

on windows version 5.3 works flawlessly with pr1.3 so why not update your phone?

I wanted to avoid opening a new thread for my question only, but I disregarded to say that I do have a frsh install of PR1.3 global ed. , fresh vainilla MMC flash... and after further testing found that after CSSU the skype video calls are also compromised... Below I attached a list of apps installed from Fast app manager.
Skype calls drop after my camera is turn off while the other side is streaming succesfully

i find that ocing to 1000mhz makes video chats work perfectly both skype and google using my macbok with the latest skype and gchat plugins.

anything less ie 900 mhz is choppy or doesnt even start.

this is on pr1.3 with swappolube optimized tracker.cfg and transitions.


installing cssu right now and did the super patch will reply when i can test it.

Thanks, I will try to install the kernel in order to overclock the device. hopefully that would resolve the issue.

I installed the suitable kernel for overclocking, and while the Skype video chat works, barely, the gchat simply stopped working...
Any one with flawless experience after my changes listed above is welcome to give me advice.:eek:
